New York's WFAN 660 Doubles Up With Acquisition Of Merlin's 101.9/WRXP FM; Calls Flipped
THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 9TH, 2012 –– The nations most listened to sports station, CBS' WFAN 660 AM/New York, appears set to hit the ball even further with a definitive agreement to purchase 101.9 FM from Merlin Media for $75 million. In late fall, CBS Radio will begin its operation of the station under a Local Marketing Agreement, launching a simulcast of the company’s premier sports franchise, Sports Radio 66 WFAN. This move will immediately broaden the audience and reach of WFAN’s award-winning programming, which will continue to be broadcast on-air at 660 AM. “This is an extremely exciting opportunity to expand our radio presence in the nation’s largest market,” said Dan Mason, President and CEO, CBS Radio. WFAN pioneered the all-sports format when it launched on July 1, 1987, becoming the first radio station where listeners could hear and talk about sports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It has been the most-listened-to station of its kind since it signed on the air. Rusty Humphries To Follow Doyle In Afternoon Slot At Talk Radio Network
THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 9TH, 2012 –– In the wake of Talk Radio Network Entertainment's announcement last week that Jerry Doyle would be moving in to follow Michael Savage's exit from the network, comes word that its highly popular night host, Rusty Humphries, would be moving up to take over the afternoon slot beginning next Monday, October 15th. TRN chief, Mark Masters, says "The 8th largest syndicated talk show in America replaces what was the 6th largest show, and in so doing, stations will get a highly entertaining, powerful and proven show that they can sell locally with pride." Humphries will continue to also jump in live in his old time slot (9 p.m. to Midnight EST, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. PST) when breaking news occurs in that time slot also.
IDOL INSIDER: Steven Tyler Is Wrong; Serious Drama At This Year's Judge's Table

In an conversation with an unnamed ex-girlfriend who works with the shoe, he said she laughed at Tyler's comments saying almost the entire crew was sent home about a week early from Baton Rouge this last Saturday in order to calm the judges down. They were scheduled to cut promos and Nicki was 4 hours late. Not surprisingly, neither star could be shot at all at the same time. She told Sablan "When the staff and crew meet in San Antonio in a few days and then Oklahoma City it will be without the judges." She added: "Nicki brings a negative vibe to the show." She further alleges that back in Charlotte when the "big blowout" happened, it was in front of a contestant that never really was told if she made it to Hollywood or not. IF they let her go, she would be free to tell the world what she saw, so they gave her a pass to go to Hollywood just to quiet her up for a little longer.

Dave FM Atlanta may have given way sports talk, but thanks to Google, fans of Dave's Mara Davis (shown) can still hang out with the former co-host, via Google's Hangout. According to The AJC's Rodney Ho, Davis will be join him in a Google Hangout this coming Wednesday at noon. And what is a Google Hangout? Well, it's an online video chat room that allows up to 10 people to talk to each other, and others to participate by asking questions. According ABC-TV 15, she had given up searching for her brother, but it wasn't until her recent appearance on the reality show "Master Chef" that made the difference. Amazingly, The siblings lived just miles apart while living in Florida. During the last hour of Carlo's show on Friday, her brother waited in the station lobby. Their reunion took place just as soon as she left the studio. Carlo and LePore said they plan a family reunion next year, so all their brothers and sisters can be together once again. Toronto's Roz And Mocha Under Fire After Contestant Lied About Being Raped To Win Contest
THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 8TH, 2012 –– Roz Weston, co-host of KISS 92.5's Roz & Mocha show, tells Toronto's The Star, he’s not sure they'll issue an apology for a segment aired Thursday morning, which featured a contestant who lied about being raped in order to win a $10,000 prize. “I would never trivialize abuse, and would never use it as entertainment. If we had known ahead of time … I’m not sure she would have been picked at all,” Weston said. The bit, called Decision Impossible, involves taking three people, asking them why they deserve the money, then forcing them to decide amongst themselves who should win. On Thursday's show, a woman named Kristyn convinced her two fellow contestants that she was the most deserving of the $10,000 prize by talking about her life with an abusive boyfriend. “He would beat me, he would rape me,” she said. “I felt helpless, I was trapped.” Coming back on Friday's show to address accusations she was lying, and admitted “the majority of the story” had been “exaggerated.” “I was not raped,” even saying she had not been physically abused at all. Listeners then took to Twitter and Facebook in droves where they aired out their complaints.

Major Shift Underway In Fresno Talk And Sports Line-Ups
THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 8TH, 2012 –– Peak Broadcasting’s 580 KMJ and 105.9 KMJ-FM/Fresno have announced it will shift to mostly local programming; thus, dropping its syndicated line-up of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity from its stations in the next 90 days. Its only exception will be the independently syndicated Dave Ramsey Show. This was especially surprising news, given that 580 KMJ boast a market-topping 7+ share. Meanwhile, over at 940 KYNO it announced that it would drop talk over the weekend and be powered by local ESPN affiliate 1430 KFIG. Peak Broadcasting Fresno wrote in an release: "Over the past three plus years, KMJ has doubled its news team, added more well-known local talk hosts, increased staffing for its on line and mobile platform, and added the FM station, resulting in some of the highest ratings achieved by the KMJ brand in years."
