Free Beer and Hot Wings Convince A Fugitive To Turn Himself In [AUDIO] THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 1ST, 2013 –– Add this to the list of things radio does better than anyone. During a segment on Wednesday’s Compass Media Networks’ nationally-syndicated Free Beer and Hot Wings Show called “I’m in big trouble today because _____”, listener Mike called in to tell the guys that he was in trouble because he had violated his probation after a drug charge. He said that he was considering going on the run to continue his meth cooking operation, reminiscent of a scene right out of 'Breaking Bad.' The guys questioned why he would do that, instead of just facing the music and Mike revealed that he had a family to support and needed to keep the money coming in. Despite their best efforts to persuade Mike otherwise, his mind appeared to be made up. Fast forward to Thursday morning. Mike called Free Beer and Hot Wings again, telling the guys that he thought about things and decided to take their advice and get in touch with his probation officer. He’ll be turning himself in today and is facing probation, a hefty fine and jail time. PHOTO: Producer Joe, Free Beer, Hot Wings (front row) Eric Zane, Steve. Katy Perry Says Mick Jagger Hit On Her As A Teen; Jagger Denies; Gossipverse Erupts [VIDEO] THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 1, 2013 –– Add this to yet another radio interview that found its way to some of the biggest news sites in a matter of minutes. This one came courtesy of morning host, Ash, Kip and Luttsy on Nova 106.9 Brisbane, Australia where the now 29 yr. old superstar claimed that Mick Jagger once hit on her (Jagger would have been around 60 at the time) She said that she was 'like' 18 at the time and did back-ups on the Stone's 'Old Habits Die Hard." She added, "I did a lot of stuff behind the scenes .. I did backing vocals on Miley Cyrus' album ... I actually went to dinner with (Jagger) one time, and he hit on me when I was like 18! .. That was a long time ago, and he’s been very kind.” As for how Perry was able to turn down the icon's advances she explained “Well you bring a friend and then they do them!” Perry said. “You sacrifice your friend.” A rep' for Mick Jagger has since told FOX411 that the incident Perry described never took place. "Mick Jagger categorically denies that he has ever made a pass at Katy Perry...Perhaps she is confusing him with someone else," the rep said.

Katz Media's Mary Beth Garber Fires Back At Dismissive Radio Piece THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 1ST, 2013 –– Nothing like an article pointing out the woes of radio, to perk up the ears of Katz Media's Mary Beth Garber. According to allthingsd.com, they recently featured an article by consultant Paul Goldstein — “Seismic Shifts Remake the Radio Industry” saying "radio broadcasters tout the health of their business and how the competitive threat of Internet rivals is overstated. I understand the need to present their case to advertisers. But their sales narrative, an echo chamber of their own making, cements complacency and fosters lack of innovation." Garber was quick to respond by saying While there truly is a seismic shift in perception of broadcast radio and the facts surrounding it, it’s not the one that Goldstein claims, and the facts — and the research — bear that out. She points out that Scarborough USA Plus data shows radio has actually increased its reach of adults 18-54, 25-54 and 18-34 over the past five years. Radio accounts for more than 90 percent of almost any demographic segment of the consumer market every week. And many are surprised to discover that radio is the leading source of reach among media entertainment. In one example, two separate — and current — well-respected sources, Scarborough and USA Touchpoints, show that more than 95 percent of the people who used Pandora in the past month also listened to broadcast radio in the past week." She adds later 'that’s not to say that Internet music players will not continue to grow audience; they undoubtedly will. But based on current trends, broadcast radio will continue to be the dominant player in the field of audio entertainment — and the only one capable of offering the kind of personal connections to listeners that are afforded by locally focused content. Broadcast radio has not died; it’s keeping 242 million people company every single week for an average of two hours and 45 minutes each day," says Garber Read: GOLDSTEIN'S ARTICLE --- GARBER'S ARTICLE
CBS & Nielsen Test First Ever Cross-Media Measurement For Local TV & Radio Data THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 1ST, 2013 –– Nielsen and CBS announced the media company’s participation in Nielsen’s first-ever trial to measure cross-media campaigns on local television and radio. The trial will focus on combining CBS local TV audience data with CBS Radio audience data to build a foundation that measures unduplicated reach and time spent across both media. In addition, the trial will measure reach and frequency for campaigns that run on both local TV and radio. As this pilot test develops, Nielsen intends to open participation across a wider group of clients for the benefit of the industry. By looking at their audience across local TV and radio in a given month, CBS is exploring the development of an analytic framework that would allow media planners to develop cross-media strategies to maximize reach as well as address the issues of day-to-day and week-to-week reach, distribution and the concept of “recency.” “We are very pleased to be working with CBS to bring together television and radio measurement as a result of our newly acquired Nielsen Audio capabilities and for the benefit of all clients,” stated Lynda Clarizio, President U.S. Media, Nielsen. “Developing new models of cross-media measurement allow our clients to identify expanded markets of potentially loyal consumers of products or content.” The test will combine data from Nielsen’s Local People Meter panel with data from the newly acquired Nielsen Audio’s PPM panel to provide the cross-platform measurement. Results will be shared in late Q1 2014.

Boston Clinches Series; Fan Pulls A Big Poppy On Live TV Mix 104.1 Boston's Karson Calls It "Sense Of Pride That's Indescrible" THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 31ST, 2013 –– Looks like Halloween revelers took to the streets a night early in Boston following last night's decisive 6-1 win by the Boston Red Sox over the St. Louis Cardinals. The bearded wonders gave Boston something it hadn't seen since Babe Ruth's team back in 1918, they won the title at Fenway. As ESPN reports, when it was over, David Ortiz took a microphone on the field and addressed the city, just as he did a week after the Boston Marathon bombings in April. "This is for you, Boston. You guys deserve it," the Series MVP said. "We've been through a lot this year, and this is for all of you and all those families who struggled." Fortunately, Big Poppy refrained from dropping another F-bomb as he did back on April 20th when the season resumed following schedule halt. Apparently, not everyone got the memo. As WHDH-TV/7 broke the news, one of its on-street revelers declared the occasion as "more than f#@king history.' Not letting it spoil the celebration, the reporter paused briefly to apologize. WATCH VIDEO Meanwhile, Boston pride runs rampant. Karson Tager of Mix 104.1's Karson and Kennedy Show tells Jockline Daily: "Today we're all waking up a little more tired than usual but with a sense of pride that is indescribable. I was at Fenway Park on Marathon Monday and was walking down Boylston Street just a few blocks away from where the bombings occurred, so to see the city heal through the Boston Red Sox improbable Worst to First story is pretty emotional. I think David Ortiz said it best, "This is our f*cking city!"

Overweight Halloween Letter Got Radio Start In Fargo [AUDIO] THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 31ST, 2013 –– No doubt you've heard about the lady in Fargo who created an internet stir by announcing this year she planned to give out letters to trick or treaters on obesity, rather than Candy. What you may not have known is that this whole story began with Rat, Maggie and Zero (shown above - not likely all of their real names) on Y94 Fargo's Morning Playhouse. As the story goes, a lady named Cheryl called the show earlier this week and shared with them why she plans on handing out a "letter" informing parents that their children are overweight, rather than giving candy to children she finds to be unhealthy. She writes: "Your child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season ... My hope is that you will step up as a parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits. The letter and interview has since gone viral and Maggie, Rat and Zero are now finding fame well beyond "the gateway to the west." LISTEN TO AUDIO HERE
