Rochester's Brother Wease Recalls Time In Vietnam On Veteran's Day [VIDEO]

Made Recordings Instead Of Letters

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 13TH, 2012 –– While the country paid tribute to our military veterans yesterday, for at least one morning host the occasion still brings stark and painful memories. 95.1 The Brew/Rochester's iconic morning host, Brother Wease, known then as Alan Levin, was a lanky teen stationed in the northern highlands of Viet Nam back in the late '60's. He told WHEC TV "We were cold and wet. It was terrible. Leeches and mountains, so you really loved your guys you know.” But while most soldiers sent letters home, Wease used a tape recorder as a way for family members to hear about the war from the actual voice of a soldier. In one of the recordings (linked below) Wease said a colonel told him and fellow soldiers to burn down a small village full of women and children. It's still one of the hardest things for him to listen to. “It's pretty uncomfortable for me. Very uncomfortable for me to hear them, and interesting because it was my life ... People should hear some reality. This is real, this is not any fake crap, and it's ugly. it's ugly and nasty but it's true.” Wease added, "It was like a movie, I mean it was an unbelievable experience. I'm lucky to be alive... ” WATCH VIDEO

Paula Broadwell's Former Interview With Don Imus Now Under Scrutiny

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 13TH, 2012 –– Last January when Paula Broadwell, reported mistress of General Petraeus, joined Don Imus' TV Show on Fox to promote her book "All In," perhaps her body language should have tipped viewers that her relationship with the General was more than just biographer. Others are now reportedly going over past interviews with Broadwell to see if she let slip any other details of her relationship. When asked by Imus “Is he married?” She said “He is married to Holly Petraeus, who’s a wonderful military spouse and done so much for their children and for children of fallen soldiers,” said Broadwell. "So Petraeus (Patraeus) must have liked you obviously, and you obviously liked him,” prodded Imus. Later Imus said, “..somebody ought to do a book about you. Have you been on ‘60 Minutes’?” " “Just a soccer mom having a good time." she told Imus. Cohost Warner Wolf commented that whenever Patraeus name came up, she looked away from the camera. 'What does that mean," Imus asked. "Guilty," said fellow host Connell McShane. WATCH INTERVIEW HERE

5KISW's BJ Shea Comes To Aid Of Ripped Off Good Samaritan [AUDIO]

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 13TH, 2012 –– As the holidays quickly approach, it may be hard to top this one in the 'feel good' department. The story involves Peggy Ray from Marysville WA who stopped at the scene of a near fatal accident where an elderly couple were trapped in a car. Seeing the accident unfold, Ray quickly jumped in to help, running to the car, breaking out a window, even cutting her hand on shattered glass. Making sure the woman passenger stayed conscious, she remained until help arrived. Shockingly, when she returned to her car she discovered someone had taken $900 out of her purse that she had just withdrawn to pay rent for her and her 6 teenage kids. Following the story on Seatlle's NBC TV, KISW's BJ Shea got her on the phone and told her that the show will give her $900. "Granted, it comes from my salary," said producer, Steve Migliore, "and now my wife is getting nothing for Christmas…ok, I’m kidding about that," joked Steve. It was a pretty emotional moment, and huge props to BJ for doing something this thoughtful. You can get the full details with BJ and Steve and numerous others as he'll join this year's TSBC which kicks off this week in New Orleans. LISTEN TO AUDIO

Lego Radio Jumps On Bieber Bandwagon

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 3TH, 2012 –– We confess, there's really not much of a story here as much as something we thought you would you would get a kick from. From Airquest Productions, comes Lego Radio, 98.3. Built and animated with nothing more than legos, it presents the Lego Radio Contest. The premise is basic. Caller has to tell jock who the number one station is for hooking her up and she gives the wrong station, of course. Apparently, Airquest does quite a bit of Lego animation. Always interesting to see how radio is perceived, or portrayed by others. WATCH VIDEO

Stern A No-Show For Hall of Fame

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 12TH, 2012 –– To pretty much no one's surprise, Howard Stern, was a no show at this past Saturday night's national Hall of Fame Ceremony at Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications Hosted by TV and Cumulus syndicated radio host Geraldo Rivera, he commented “I heard Howard Stern was one of the honorees and I thought I would add an air of quiet dignity.” Stern's absence didn't cut short the star power. There to be inducted were Gary Burbank, Art Laboe, Ron Chapman, 90-year-old Luther Masingill and Jack L. Cooper, radio’s first African-American disc jockey. Since Stern had been passed over 4 times by the induction committee, some had wondered whether he would surprise doubters with an appearance to gibe the group. Obviously, this didn't pan out, but Chicago Bears defensive tackle Amobi Okoye accepted the award in Stern’s behalf. Also a no-show was Terry Gross, whose National Public Radio program Fresh Air was inducted. Shown at left are Dallas icon, Ron Chapman and consultant George Johns who spent many years together at the legendary KVIL/Dallas.

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 12TH, 2012 –– it's not often that someone joining a station for weekends makes national news, unless that someone happens to be Jeff Davis (shown right) who also happens to be returning to the legendary WLS. Savile (S)ex Scandal Takes Toll On BBC; Entwistle Resigns

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 12TH, 2012 –– The blowback from one of the U.K.'s most explosive media scandals has now led to the resignation of BBC Director General George Entwhistle (shown) who resigned on Saturday evening. According to The Daily Mail, the starting point was apparently the total collapse of morale at Newsnight, the BBC's flagship current affairs programme, after its investigation exposing Jimmy Savile as a paedophile was canned last year in favor of a Christmas tribute to the BBC star. They added, "What made matters worse was that ITV broadcast its own exposé on Savile in September, using much of the material Newsnight had gathered as evidence against the disgraced DJ." Reportedly, The editor, Peter Rippon, had been suspended as a result of the scandal — according to Rod Liddle, a former editor of Radio 4's Today programme, "George Entwistle had been told by BBC Trust chairman Chris Patten to 'stick the boot' into Rippon when Entwistle appeared before the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee."

General Petraeus (S)ex Scandal Sends Media Into Fun Mode

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 12TH, 2012 –– Leave it to someone in a position of power involved in a (s)ex scandal to send the media into both serious and fun mode. No sooner had word leaked of General Petraeus extra marital affair (literally moments after the presidential election) did callers begin to light up the phones on radio stations across the country. And if the "other" person involved looks like Paula Broadwell (shown right), you just know this story may be around awhile. Of course, there are always the bigger than life newspaper covers and who does it better than New York's Daily News to roll out the double-entendre's. Like the one at right with "War & Piece. Other less risque NYDN covers took on an Austin Power look with the caption "Oh Behave." And yet another with the headline C (caught) I (In) A (action). CHECK OUT OTHER COVERS HERE

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 12TH, 2012 –– As Jockline Daily first reported last Friday (JD 11/9), Dean Molberg (shown) morning host on Rogers Sportsnet Radio The Fan 960, was talking about the Saskatchewan Roughriders upcoming playoff game in Calgary. He later joked that he hoped the team’s plane crashed and four players would die. Molberg issued his apology on the air and again later in written form on the station’s Facebook page stating: “I made a comment yesterday that had no place being on the radio, it was not thought out, it was an attempt to be funny which clearly in hindsight was ill-founded,” said Molberg on the air. “There are a lot of people angry and they have a right to be ..." As of early Friday, no word from station indicated what action would be taken, but later they posted: "Molberg has been suspended for the rest of the CFL playoffs and the radio station has pledged a donation to the Roughriders’ charity of choice." 1956 a plane crash killed 4 Roughriders players.

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 12TH, 2012 –– Before you say "Oh no, not another Bieber story," check it out. You, of course, know there's no bigger story buzzing the planet than the breakup of Bieber and Selena Gomez. Only trouble is, neither one of them has commented publicly about it, so going on a show called 'John Garabedian's House Party" had to be 5the last place the 'Bieb expected to be confronted about the relationship. In an interview with Open House Party last Saturday, he neither confirmed nor denied the split, telling radio Garabedian, "I don't know what to say. I don't know what's going on in my life. To even assess that it doesn't make sense 'cause I have not made any comment." He also sounded a little annoyed by the question. Following the interview, the 'Bieb took to twitter where he posted: "Thank you Boston. Focused on the positive. #30MillionBeliebers with me. I'm never leaving you because you are always there for me."Don't feel bad for the uber popper yet.
