Kerri Kasem Says Elder Abuse Doc Footage Being Held For $100,000 Ransom

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 16TH, 2016 –– Casey Kasem's daughter Kerri Kasem has claimed in a 7federal court that a rookie movie producer is demanding $100,000 ransom for footage they shot for a documentary about elder abuse reports court house news. Kerri and her charity Kasem Cares claim that Cameron Glenar and his Rose Street Productions are refusing to give her her raw footage for the feature-length film without more capital. While Glenar said in promotional materials that his goal for the film was to save lives, his “intentions suddenly and inexplicably changed” in June, Kasem says in the Nov. 9 complaint. Kasem says that goal “was replaced with greed — using the documentary to extract a quick six-figure payday from a charitable organization that only wanted to use the documentary to help people and promote its cause.”

Following her father's death and the turmoil that preceded between Kerri and her siblings with their Step mom, Jean, Kerri Kasem say in the lawsuit, that she became “an outspoken advocate for visitation rights and elder abuse awareness,” and helped found Kasem Cares to assist children kept from their elderly parents and to increase awareness of elder abuse. Glenar was a producer who had worked primarily on reality TV shows before contacting her in 2014. Kasem says in the complaint. He came up with the idea to create a documentary focusing on her charity’s work and her own experience. But his idea was “nothing more than an unrefined and vague concept,” and “Glenar conceded that he did not have the knowledge or experience to produce a documentary,” said Kasem.

The complaint reports that Glenar and his company told the charity “that if it wanted the documentary ‘bad enough,’ Kasem Cares would have to purchase the footage from Glenar,” Kasem says. “Most recently, Glenar demanded $100,000 for the raw documentary footage.” READ STORY HERE

GORDON SMITH: Want 'Just The Facts?' Tune To Local Radio

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 16TH, 2016 –– NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith delivered a speech yesterday at a Communications Forum luncheon sponsored by The Media Institute - Quoting James Madison, he said “A popular government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.” Smith opined, "That’s why today – nearly 250 years since Madison spoke those words – the right to speak freely without fear of incrimination, the right of the press to challenge the government and root out corruption, remains one of the most important rights our founders enshrined in the Constitution.

Throwing his attention to radio and perhaps a bit of shade on some other media platforms, Smith added, "When Americans want “just the facts,” they know they can turn to their local stations to get the news straight, without the shouting, finger-pointing and drama. When they want to find out what’s going on in their community – like what’s happening in their schools, if their favorite sports team is winning or what the weather will be – they tune into their local stations."
