UMG's Mike Dungan Talks State Of Country Radio And 'The Spark' That Ignited Chris Stapleton

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 11TH, 2016 –– Universal Music Group's Dungan talked with Tennessean reporter Nate Rau about the state of country radio. When asked about the health of country radio, Dunan said, People have been predicting the decline of regular broadcast radio in the face of all these new technologies for several years now and it’s stronger than it’s ever been. I think every bit of research we’ve seen shows that the primary way people intersect with music and learn 7about music is still radio."

Dungan also commented on Chris Stapleton. Specifically, how he was able to shake-up sales through changing technology. "Sometimes it can just take one spark and the entire thing blows up. In Chris’ case, that’s certainly it. And the spark was that performance on the CMAs obviously. Immediately all the balls started to roll. The social networks exploded. The streaming activity exploded. The interest from radio exploded. The interest in Chris coming and performing live for ticket sales and on television, it all exploded. It converged into this thing that’s absolutely massive -- this guy’s selling tickets, he’s selling albums, he’s selling tracks, he’s selling streams. He’s just exploded. He’s hugely sought out on Google. It really comes back to that performance. PHOTO/twitter READ ENTIRE ARTICLE HERE

Steve Allen Iin Trouble With Regulator - Early weekend breakfast presenter Steve Allen on Britain’s national talk station, LBC, has been found in breach of Ofcom Rule 2.3 for potentially offensive material. (Ofcom is the UK version of the FCC). It surrounds a broadcast when Steve talked about Chris Spivey, who had recently been given a suspended six month sentence for posting offensive comments on social media about the killing of Fusilier Lee Rigby, the soldier murdered in Woolwich in 2013. Steve said: “He’s quite clearly not only immensely stupid but thick at the same time. Listeners More Likely To Purchase A Product After A Personality Discusses It On Air Reveals CRS 2016 Research Presentation:

7

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 10TH, 2016 –– Edison’s Larry Rosin and Megan Lazovick presented “Ear Wars: The Listeners Speak Back” at during yesterday's 2016 Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. This year’s research study combined a 1,560 respondent online survey with listener and radio station interviews in three markets: Terre Haute, IN, Knoxville, TN, and Philadelphia, PA.

7With increasing competition from other forms of audio, this presentation urged broadcasters to instill “FOMO” at every opportunity in the broadcast day – if you’re not listening to the radio, you’re missing out. Survey data and interviews with listeners show that connection, engagement, and community involvement are all important ways for radio stations to create reasons to keep listening. We also visited top radio stations WIVK, WTHI, and WXTU to illustrate just a few of the methods stations can employ to meaningfully engage with listeners. In fact, they showed that four out of ten country listeners said they are more inclined to pay attention to commercials featuring station personalities. Nearly half of country listeners (46%) said they are more likely to purchase a product or service after a personality discussed it on the air. This compared to only 4% who were less likely. For a full presentation deck, including graphs, relevant data points, and videos is available through Custom Show at: https://app.customshow.com/slideshow/8dre9h
