CBS Radio's Chris Oliviero To Receive TSBC's 2016 'Ashwood Award'

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 12TH, 2016 –– Chris Oliviero, Executive Vice President/Programming for CBS Radio, has been selected as this year's recipient of Talk Show Boot Camp's coveted' Ashwood Award.' The award, which recognizes someone who has made a positive impact on the industry, will be presented on Friday morning March 4th at Hyatt's Pier 66 In Ft. Lauderdale.

Chris Oliviero was selected by last year's recipient, Kraig Kitchin, who, like each year's honoree, is charged with naming the following year's recipient. In making the selection, Kitchin said, I believe that Chris truly loves the medium and touches it from many ways, shapes and forms."

Prior to Oliviero's elevation to EVP, he was previously SVP of Programming since 2009, and also took on a supervisory position for CBS Sports Radio in 2012, overseeing the daily operations for the expansive network. Beginning his career with CBS RADIO in 1996 as an intern for The Howard Stern Show, Oliviero joined Sportsradio WFAN NY, full- time as a producer upon graduation from New York University in 1998. He was named Executive Producer for WNEW 102.7FM in 2000, and became part of CBS RADIO’s corporate staff in 2004, serving first as program coordinator, and later as Director, Original Programming (2004 - 05) and Vice President of Programming (2005 - 09). The Ashwood Award was named in honor of the late Andrew Ashwood, VP and GM of FOX Sports Radio, who passed away on November 13, 2008 at 51. [LISTEN] New Jersey Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing Thousands Of Dollars From AM 970 The Answer's Joe Piscopo

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 12TH, 2016 –– Jennifer LaRocca, 40, admitted to stealing from the former Saturday Night Live star/turned talk host on New York's 970 The Answer. According to The Daily Mail, while LaRocca's husband, Frank, was employed by him Piscopo to manage his money from 2010 to 2014, she pleaded guilty to one count of theft by unlawful taking and agreed to repay $170,805. Prosecutors are recommending she be sentenced to probation on condition she and her husband make payments to Piscopo. The Daily Mail reports she did not 'literally plead guilty to stealing that amount because her plea agreement calls for her to be sentenced as a third-degree offender who stole between $500 and $75,000, (Piscopo said on his show it was actually a quarter of a million. )

Jennifer LaRocca admitted writing checks for her own expenses from Piscopo's accounts between 2010 and 2014. The woman told Superior Court Jude Catherine Enright that she committed the thefts from several locations Piscopo, well known for his impressions of Frank Sinatra, spoke at length about the ordeal on yesterday's show. Two Former National Radio Stations Are Returning To The UK

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 11TH, 2016 –– Virgin Radio will launch on DAB (the UK version of HD radio) in Britain on March 30th. The new station will see former Radio 1 presenter Edith Bowman return to full time radio hosting the breakfast show and also include Jamie East 10am – 1pm, Kate Lawler 1pm – 4pm, Matt Richardson 4pm – 7pm and with Tim Cocker 7pm – 11pm. Virgin Radio originally launched in the UK in April 1993 by Richard Branson. It was the first Virgin-branded radio station in the world, and lasted until a rebrand in 2008 when it became Absolute Radio. There are currently 13 Virgin stations around the world, including Canada, Dubai, Bangkok and Italy. And Britain’s second national talk station, talkRADIO, is launching on DAB on March 21st. It's signed up a number of presenters, including Iain Lee, George Galloway and Julia Hartley-Brewer. Breakfast will be done by Paul Ross. The original Talk Radio UK was rebranded talkSPORT by the company that's now bringing back Talk Radio.

Steve Allen Iin Trouble With Regulator - Early weekend breakfast presenter Steve Allen on Britain’s national talk station, LBC, has been found in breach of Ofcom Rule 2.3 for potentially offensive material. (Ofcom is the UK version of the FCC). It surrounds a broadcast when Steve talked about Chris Spivey, who had recently been given a suspended six month sentence for posting offensive comments on social media about the killing of Fusilier Lee Rigby, the soldier murdered in Woolwich in 2013. Steve said: “He’s quite clearly not only immensely stupid but thick at the same time. I’d have had him hanging from gallows, ladies and gentlemen”. “We know all about internet trolls because they are generally people with mental health issues --- So you’ll like it then when I call, Chris, for people to egg you in the street and throw things at you, you know, because you are a vile piece of work.
