HOTLANTA? Stations Hunker Down During Winter Blast

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 13TH, 2014 –– As you may have heard, since Tuesday the polar vortex has been exceptionally rough on the south and north east. For many Atlanta radio peeps, it's been a time for extended bonding as well, as several hosts are literally holed up in nearby hotels with hopes that today's expected rise to upper 30's will finally offer some travel relief. Kicks Cadillac Jack sent us this photo telling Jockline Daily "We have been bunked at 285 and Roswell Rd since Tuesday. We hav7e been walking to dinner every night here at Longhorn." Over at sister station Q100, The Bert Show's Jeff Dauler tells us he actually moved at the start of the year and lives within walking distance from the station. A 5-minute walk away. This storm and the one two weeks ago I've had people from the station either sleeping, eating, or showering wherever there is room in the house. Also had a few friends of friends from the nearby hospitals doing the same. There has been about two-dozen people camping at the station from us, 680, Rock, KICKS, and (of course) ALL NEWS 106.7. Bert co-host, 7Kristin Klingshirn has been at a hotel, Bert had to walk to work today, Producer Tommy slept on the couch in the studio. Tracey and Cassie worked from home. There's also an air mattress in a vacant office (Is that an empty case of beer on the floor inset? -- Nahhhh, we're probably mistaken) meanwhile, Greg Frey, corporate PD of Atlanta's KICKS 101.5 sent a nice view from Piedmont Ave looking at Piedmont Park (L). Scott Shannon Hints At Radio Return

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 13TH, 2014 –– Taking a closer look at last week's blockbuster announcement that ginormous radio legend Scott Shannon was retiring from WPLJ, it appears leaving radio entirely wasn't the case. In yesterday's New York Daily News, he says “It’s not an option that I will leave radio. I retired from WPLJ,” he says, “not from radio. I love radio. I love doing a morning show. I love getting to know the listeners.” He adds he'd be open to satellite radio, as well, saying. I like the idea of talking to people all across the country.” He’s also optimistic that his Cumulus syndicated True Oldies Channel will continue. As for the unexpected retirement from WPLJ, he wasn't keen on a long goodbye. “The original plan was for a five-day farewell broadcast,” he says. “But last Thursday, I called Todd [Pettengill] and the program director and said that emotionally I didn’t think I could go through that. It was just going to be too difficult. I said let’s just do it in four hours.” And will he miss waking up early? Not really, says Shannon. “I never minded the hours,” he says. “It’s only hard from 3:15 to 3:20. Then it’s smooth sailing.” And in “a couple of weeks,” he says, he’ll be off the course and headed back to the radio game. WE'LL KEEP AN EAR ON THIS ONE

Radio's Charlamagne Visits Arsenio; Rips DMX And Zimmerman Over Celebrity Boxing Match; Hearts Katy Perry - [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 12TH, 2014 –– The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne Tha God was a guest on The Arsenio Hall Show last week. During the interview, the Premiere Networks host spoke candidly about how he got into radio; his feelings about the now cancelled celebrity 7boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX, as well as reality TV shows like The Real Housewives of Atlanta; why he’s a fan of Katy Perry. Commenting on the now cancelled celebrity boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX:
Charlamagne: “…It disgusts me that we live in an era where somebody like George Zimmerman is considered a damn celebrity. So what, killing a 17-year-old makes you a celebrity now?.... I don’t think DMX should participate in this either. How are you gonna profit off race and hate in America. That’s all he’s doing. He’s profiting off the murder of a 17-year-old boy. That’s whack to me…” On a lighter note, he confessed to being a Katy Perry fan. "Katy Perry is what I call a Nubian white queen (laughter)" said Charlamagne. "I love Katy Perry. But you know, she’s a dope artist. You gotta listen to her lyrics, she really do got lyrics. She’s a dope person. A dope performer.” WATCH CLIP ONE HERE, CLIP TWO HERE
