Hostage Situation At Radio Station Turned Out To Be A Hoax [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 28TH, 2014 –– Another day, another hoax. This one took place in Tulsa at the expense of radio station KVOO. According to News On 6 TV, Tulsa Police responded to a hostage report sometime before 7:070p.m. on Wednesday night. They were told that masked men were inside the station and holding hostages. Within minutes, more than 30 Tulsa officers arrived on the scene only to find workers inside who were unaware of the report. A witness told News On 6 she was next door at a church choir practice, when she said police officers told everyone inside the church to get away from the windows. She then moved all the kids to an indoor room and notified everybody else in the building," Sergeant Mark Mackenzie said the call came in through a third party and they were having a hard time tracking the original caller. In an updated report from tulsaworld.com, Bill Berry, GM of the Journal Broadcast Group, said he and KVOO employees are still confused about exactly what happened and why but are glad no one was hurt. “It was a text message to somebody who then called police,” Berry said. “It was kind of shocking to the employees when multiple police came into the building.

CBS Sports Radio's John Feinstein Releases Latest Book; One Day Would Like to Write A Play

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 28TH, 2014 –– John Feinstein, host of The John Feinstein Show on CBS Sports Radio, joined in an interview with his partner Andrew Bogusch to chat about his latest release: "Where Nobody Knows Your Name, a behind-the-scenes look at minor league baseball players and their pursuit of the big leagues. This week's release marks Feinstein's 32nd 7book. He tells Bogusch "I follow all 30 Major League Baseball teams … and having written previous baseball books, I’ve come to have a sense of the huge gap between life in the major leagues and life in Triple-A. The best way to show that is the salaries. The minimum salary in Major League Baseball is $482,000 a year. The maximum salary for someone who’s on a minor-league contract, and these are usually guys who’ve been banging around down there for 10, 11, 12 years, might get it to $100,000 a year — might — most make less than that. Very few guys in Triple-A are going to get to that $100,000 plateau. And it’s the difference between staying in a Hampton Inn or Ritz-Carlton," says Feinstein. And what remains the fantasy project? asked Bogusch. "All kidding aside, there are two things, and I was just talking to my wife about this. You know me and you know I’m not kidding when I say this: I really would love to write a hockey book. I love hockey.." says Feinstein. He adds "if I ever got time, if I ever had actual down time, I’d love to write a play. I love theatre, and I’ve always wanted to write a play. I’ve tinkered with a one-man play based on the Red Auerbach book that I wrote. I have a couple other ideas, but those are the two things I would really, really love to do.

We kept the reverence to the song and though it may not have looked that way from the outside, we’re a rock band. This is exactly what we do.” Bray also noted that the band’s aim with the National Anthem was to “evolve it into a new form that could be enjoyed by people young and old and that’s exactly the response we’ve gotten”! REPORT: Radio Digital Sales Poised To Grow 22% This Year

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 27TH, 2014 –– With a digital revenue increase of 15% in 2013, radio is poised to grow 22% this year -- surpassing the half-billion mark in digital advertising for the first time -- according to a new report issued by Borrell Associates on behalf of the Radio Advertising Bureau. The report, Benchmarking: Local Radio Stations’ Online Revenues, states that the average station made $166,490 in digital advertising, or about 3% of its total revenue. Some large-market stations are making millions, Borrell reported. Average revenue for four-station clusters is approaching three-quarters of a million dollars. The report is based on Borrell's 7ongoing industry-wide surveys of more than 7,400 local online operations in the U.S. and Canada, including more than 2,790 radio stations in 751 clusters. This report analyzes data from three principal sources: ad revenue as reported by the stations, local business ad spending, and a radio manager survey asking questions about digital revenue resources, sales methods, expenses and other digital operations. This year’s manager survey is comprised of 294 respondents representing 2,010 stations. "There are a lot of positives here," said Gordon Borrell, CEO of Borrell Associates. "We’re still seeing three-fourths of the managers say they believe digital sales hold a lot of growth potential, and now we’re seeing some clear suggestions on how to tap it. Training is an opportunity, as is the need to get more buy-in from upper management. Apparently, the rank-and-file are trying to get the word back to the general that there’s gold in them thar’ hills." webinar is complimentary to survey participants.
