STUDY: Personalities Not Connecting As Well With Female Teens Compared To Older Demos

7

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 27TH, 2017 –– In general, radio’s personalities are not connecting as well with 15 to 19-year-olds as with older demos,” says consultant Alan Burns. Alan Burns and Associates, along with Strategic Solutions Research, continue to release data from “What Women Want – 2017”. This week they'll look deeper into Top 40 and Hot AC formats. Strategic EVP Hal Rood noted that young women aged 15-19 were nearly 40% (39%) less likely than 25-34-year-olds to strongly agree that one of the reasons they listen to radio is “because some of the people are entertaining.” “And they’re almost 50% less likely to say that radio personalities are one of their top three reasons to listen,” said Rood.

In addition to probing women’s connection to air personalities, this week’s “What Women Want” data release will look at the music tastes and top artist preferences of Top 40 and Hot AC listeners, the differences between the two formats, P1 desires in early morning, and how likely their core listeners are to cooperate with ratings surveys. Judge Rejects Cumulus Refinancing Plan

THE MOUTH FEBRUARY 27TH, 2017 –– A U.S. judge on Friday rejected Cumulus Media's bid to proceed with a refinancing plan that the group hoped would help reduce its $2.4 billion debt load, but was opposed by some lenders reported Reuters. The decision by U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla came in a lawsuit the company filed in December, accusing JPMorgan Chase & Co of withholding 7consent to parts of its refinancing plan. In its lawsuit, Cumulus said that JPMorgan's actions in its role as administrative agent under a 2013 credit agreement had threatened a deal it reached with bondholders that would deleverage the company by up to $305 million. But JPMorgan and a group creditors who objected to the deal, disagreed and argued the transaction was not permitted under the credit agreement. Failla agreed saying, "I do not believe it permits the proposed refinancing."

The lawsuit by Cumulus aimed to reduce its debt load, which includes $1.8 billion in secured loans and $610 million of unsecured senior notes due in 2019. Cumulus on Dec. 6 announced a plan to exchange the senior notes for a combination of stock and up to $305 million in secured debt borrowed through a $200 million revolving credit line. Cumulus said the deal would allow the company to retire the notes at a discount and avoid a "springing maturity" on the $1.8 billion in loans that occurs if more than $200 million of the notes are outstanding in January 2019. Following the Judge's ruling, Cumulus, led by Mary Berner, issued a statement - “While we are certainly disappointed by the court’s decision, we will continue to review all available options to address our balance sheet issues. We are making solid progress in our turnaround, and remain focused on exploring strategies that would give us the runway needed to fully execute our plan.”
