STUDY: FM/AM Staying Put In The Dash For Now

THE MOUTH, MARCH 14TH, 2013 –– Looks like everyone in radio has been weighing in on recent comments by car executive during a recent Radio Ink conference. 7Reportedly, they suggested that am/fm equipment would likely go away in a couple of years. GM quickly said that wouldn't be the case, but just to be sure, researcher Mark Ramsey asked 1000 people, 18+ in an internet poll how they would feel if this were the case. Apparently, they weren't too keen on this happening. In fact nearly 70% said they'd definitely notice its absence in purchasing their next car (see graphic). "You can climb down from the ceiling now, Mr. Broadcaster – it turns out new cars will feature FM/AM radios built-in for the foreseeable future (although certainly not forever)," said Ramsey. This was based on his study between March 9 and March 10 2013, where he fielded a random, balanced, national online study of 1,000 consumers and asked how they feel about those radios in their cars – and how they’d feel if they disappeared. Each chart shows five rating points, from “DISAGREE” to “AGREE.” CHECK OUT STUDY HERE

Mike Francesa Breaks News Of New Pope -- Kinda; At Least He Didn't Fall Asleep [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, MARCH 14TH, 2013 –– WFAN/New York's Mick Francesa (shown) is as big as you get in New York radio, a true legend. Last September he added YouTube sensation to his accolades after falling asleep during an interview. Yesterday, after breaking news to his listeners that Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, a 76-year-old Argentinean, had been named as the new Pope, Francesa may have extended his internet fame even further, courtesy of THIS VIDEO. Even for an Italian, pronouncing the Cardinal's name, Bergoglio (Bur-GO-leo) proved quite a chore for Francesa. As 7he wrestled with it pronunciation, he then wondered if there may be more than one Cardinal in Argentina. This and more. But hey, cut him some slack. This is a sport's station where you're used to giving scores, not papal news. Plus, we're not sure how he was getting his news. Either way, on the heels of nearly a million views from his falling asleep episode, to this newest post, which already has earner more than 20,000 views, Mike may well be on his way to the most popular sports host in the world.

Perez Hiltons Calls Out Station Over Bieber Death Pool

THE MOUTH, MARCH 13TH, 2013 –– Celebrity blogger, entertainer and syndicated radio host, Perez Hilton, was not too pleased with reports of Albany's Rock 1009's Justin Bieber Death Pool. He posted: "I’m gonna tell you right now this is not cool at all. If you like Justin Bieber or not. I know some of us would like to see this young kid fail, but organizing a DEATH POOL in his name is not cool.If you don’t like him then don’t listen to him." He went on to post that Rock1009 of Albany (not one of his stations) has begun a challenge for its listeners, offering a $200 prize if you accurately select the month of Bieber’s death …in 2013! once again not cool! A listener quickly posted: “Hoping for and finding entertainment in someone’s death is sickening. I would watch out for karma if I were you." As of 8:00 am et, Jockline Daily found no further mentions of this off at Rock 1009's website or Facebook page.

Stern Responds To Replacing Jimmy Fallon Rumors: "Way Too Big Of A Star To Get Stuck In A 12:30 AM Time Slot"

THE MOUTH, MARCH 13TH, 2013 –– As Jockline Daily was first to report (March 6th), no sooner had rumors spread of NBC's interest in replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon next year, rumblings quickly surfaced that Howard Stern was being groomed to follow Fallon. When finally returning to his satellite radio show this week he called replacing Falon an "insult," saying he is way too big of a star to get stuck in a 12:30 a.m. time slot. "First of all, what an insult," said Stern. "Like, all the years of my career. I'm like, the biggest guy in radio I've done film? I've done television?...I mean, they act like I'm some kind of f***ing beginner or something...Maybe if I'm really nice to NBC they'll let me take over Carson Daly's show at like 2 o'clock in the morning." He also added that Fallon likely makes about a tenth of his own salary and then joked that he has also been hired to anchor the NBC Nightly News, guest star on Community, Parks & Recreation and Whitney, and the will host return of 'Tic Tac Dough'." Of note, in a Robin Quivers' news segment, Stern said that as far as he knows, Leno isn't going anywhere.

Power 95.3/Orlando Counts Down Laker Dwight Howard's Next Exit With Billboard Diss

THE MOUTH, MARCH 13TH, 2013 –– For those who follow the NBA, you no doubt are aware of former Orlando Magic player, Dwight Howard, who left last August for the LA Lakers. Much like Lebron's bolt from Cleveland to Miami, Orlando fans were none too pleased and Power 95.3 joined that dismay with its own billboard which counted down Howard's return trip last night matching its Magic with the Lakers. Given the fact that both teams have a combined record of 51-77, it wasn't exactly a season make or break game. Of course, along the billboard diss, Howard got the expected booing during the game, but it apparently had little effect on the player or the team. In the end The Lakers prevailed, 106-97 over the Magic an Howard added 39 points for the night.
