THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST 2012 –– Arbitron's February PPM results for Atlanta have "noted" WNNX-FM - Rock 100.5 over a tweet sent by someone from its Regular Guys (shown) morning show that mentioned PPM. During the week of February 12, TRG (The Regular Guys( tweeted: "If you have Arbitron PPM, make sure to tune in to TRG, 6-10am, Rock 100.5 ATL Thx." Arbitron stated: "The comments by WNNX-FM’s personality offer explicit instructions to Arbitron PPM panelists, directly connecting participation as a PPM panelist to WNNX-FM listening. As a result, these comments may differentially prompt panelists to wear or carry their meters when listening to WNNX-FM." While no fine or other action was taken against the station, it simply made users aware of what was posted.

Syndication One's Rickey Smiley Show will likely be getting a whole new career boost as plans have been announced for a new TV Sitcom "The Rickey Smiley Show." According to The Hollywood Reporter, under president and CEO Wonya Lucas, TV One has announced plans for 14 new series and specials which offer programming at projecting 'true black life' in America in an entertaining and engaging way.” The Rickey Smiley Show will feature Smiley as, what better, an Atlanta radio personality and single father of four adopted children. The storyline will be based loosely on his own life. In addition to numerous markets, Smiley airs in Atlanta on Hot 107.9. Other shows planned by TV One include a special tribute to comedian Bernie Mac.

THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST 2012 – The Missouri chapter of N.O.W. wants to wipe clean the chances of Premiere Syndicated Talker Rush Limbaugh being honored in its state's Hall of Famous Missourians. According to The Daily Caller, as part of their “Flush Rush” campaign the group delivered 504 rolls of toilet paper to the office of Republican House Speaker Steven Tilley whose idea it was bestow the honor. “Rush Limbaugh is a misogynist and a bigot and a bully and we don’t need a role model like that in Missouri,” said Claire Major, the vice president of the Missouri NOW chapter. In spite of this latest drive, Tilley told reporters he does not intend to change his mind. Tilley added he'll be donating the toilet paper to local homeless shelters. “I would encourage them to send as much toilet paper as they would like, because I’m just going to donate it to one of the homeless shelters or one of the Catholic charities.”
Terre Haute's Jay and Storm Go Into Prom Mode Following Tornado Damage To High School
THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST, 2012 –– On the heels of Indiana recent tornadoes which devasted homes and its Henryville High School, Mix 100.7/Terre Haute's Jay and Storm are seeing to that students will still be headed to prom in style. They launched "Operation Prom," and according to RTV6, they've already collected hundreds of dresses, shoes, suits and tuxes. "I talked to my co-host and said, 'We have to do something,'" said Jay Michael. Storm said, 'Let's have people donate prom dresses," and it exploded from there." As posted at their website, listeners can donate prom dresses, formal wear, shoes, hair pieces, etc. that will go directly to high school students from Henryville High School. Henryville's Prom is still scheduled to go on April 28th. People are asked to bring items to their studios in Terre Haute through today. Jay and Storm will personally deliver the supplies to students in Henryville the weekend of April 13th.

THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST 2012 – If the last couple of month's ratings are any indication of whether Tribune made a wise move in bringing by Jonathon Brandmeier to the airwave, this should leave no doubt. According to Robert Feder's Time Out Chicago blog, Arbitron figures released Monday showed Brandmeier’s morning show up 91 percent from a year ago among listeners between 25 and 54 and ranked fifth with a 4.2 percent share. This compares to a 2.2 in February 2011 when it ranked 20th in adults. In Brandmeier’s first full month on WGN, his adult share went 44 percent. Feder also points out in the same trends, that Mix 101.9's Eric Ferguson and Kathy Hart, led the entire market with a 7.7 share of adults.

KFI Listeners Unfazed By John & Ken Whitney Flap; Retain Top Ratings During Suspension
THE MOUTH, MARCH 20TH, 2012 –– Something for protest groups to think about next time they plan to take down a popular show: Their listeners may totally ignore you. Following last month's sit-out for KFI/Los Angeles popular John & Ken during Feb. 16-27 after their infamous Whitney Houston crack ho comments, listeners were apparently unfazed by the pair's absence. According to The LA times: The average weekly audience for The John and Ken Show in January was 741,400; in February it was 741,100. In the latest ratings released by Arbitron on Monday, KFI averaged 4.9% of the listening audience in Los Angeles and Orange County. KFI PD Robin Bertolucci told the times: "People are interested in the news, in the world, the budget, the economy. We're doing all of that and, hopefully, most of all, entertaining people." Of note, KFI maintained its top ranking in morning drive which airs local host Bill Handel and the first hour of Rush Limbaugh's nationally syndicated show. During this time slot, KFI posted a 6.9% share during that crucial part of the day, when broadcasters hope to grab and retain listeners, up from 6.6% in January. As for John & Ken's absense, Bertolucci said: "If they hadn't been suspended, their ratings would probably be higher," Bertolucci said.
Hot 95.7's Pepper Rides For MS
THE MOUTH, MARCH 20TH, 2012 –– Sarah Pepper is at it again. First it was the 1/2 Marathon in January in honor of her brother whom she lost in October 2010 at the age of 28 and now she is training for the MS150. After a close family friend was diagnosed in February Sarah set out to ride the 150 miles (actually 182.5 miles) from Houston to Austin while raising funds and awareness for MS. Every hour of every day 1 person is diagnosed with MS. Sarah completed a 40 mile ride this weekend for her team, Michelob Ultra. On April 21st Sarah will set out on her two day ride to Austin, Texas. "I have decided I was given an opportunity and a voice to educate people. Whether it was sharing the story of losing my brother and the grief I went through. Or the shock of hearing your close friend has been diagnosed with MS. It is those personal stories that not only help us connect to our listeners but it also shows them that there are other people out there who hurt like they do. That they are not alone. With every mile I ride, or every stride I run I hoped that one person knew that there was hope."
Huckabee Set To Go Head to Head With Limbaugh
THE MOUTH, MARCH 20TH, 2012 –– They say timing is everything and with the April 9th start date for new Cumulus syndicated Mike Huckabee to launch, all eyes and ears will be on how the former Governor turned TV Host will match up with behemoth talker Rush Limbaugh. Of particular notice will be how this all shakes out in light of Rush's recent Sharon Fluke flap. According to The Wall Street Journal, Huckabee will kick off on 140 stations, including 50 owned by Cumulus. The other factor will be Huckabee's "more conversation, less confrontation" approach. "I'm not a person who would call anyone by names that would cause my late mother to come out of her grave and slap me to the floor," said Mr. Huckabee in an interview. Of added interest will be how Cumulus plays out Limbaugh's show on its own stations, particularly, WABC New York. Some, like Joel Hollander, former chief executive of CBS Radio, said "one of the big litmus tests" will be whether Cumulus pulls the plug on Limbaugh from WABC when its contract expires. Cumulus' CEO Dickey said in an interview, he would "honor" existing contracts with the Limbaugh show, including at WABC. But he didn't rule out a switch to Mr. Huckabee in the future. "We are in favor of eating our own cooking," he said.
