Justin Craig Rises To Top Programming Post At ESPN
THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST, 2017 –– ESPN Radio New York 98.7FM program director Justin Craig has been named Senior Director, Programming and Operations for the national ESPN Radio network. In this capacity, Craig will be responsible for all aspects of ESPN Radio programming and production, including oversight of Mike & Mike, The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Russillo & Kanell, and nighttime and weekend programming.
Craig transitioned out of his current role at 98.7FM earlier this month and is now based at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Conn., reporting to David Roberts, vice president, ESPN Network Content. Ryan Hurley, formerly the Assistant Program Director at 98.7FM, has been promoted to Program Director and will oversee all aspects of programming at the station. Jonathan Winthrop, who has previously served as a producer at 98.7FM will take on a leadership role as the new Assistant Program Director and will continue to produce The Stephen A. Smith Show.
Prior to his role at ESPN Radio New York, Craig served as the Program Director for ESPN Chicago 1000 for four years. In that time, the station became the number one sports talk station in the city. He also helped create the station’s flagship show Waddle & Silvy, now the top-rated afternoon drive show in Chicago. Craig joined ESPN in January 1998 as a part-time overnight board operator, before becoming one of the original producers of Mike & Mike in 2000.
Veteran Broadcaster Chip Arledge Appointed OM for Cumulus' Shreveport/Bossier
THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST, 2017 –– Cumulus Media announces that it has appointed seasoned radio programming and operations professional Chip Arledge to Operations Manager for its five-station cluster in Shreveport-Bossier City, LA. Arledge will also serve as Program Director for KRMD-FM and KRMD-AM. He joins Cumulus from Eagle Radio Group/Results Radio Network in Marquette, MI, where he was Director of Commotion & Product Development. Jimmy deCastro Launches Sports Marketing Firm
THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST, 2017 –– Beloved industry icon, Jimmy deCastro, who stepped down last fall as president and general manager of news/talk WGN AM 720, is back in business reports media scribe, Robert Feder. deCastro announced Monday the launch Monday of After The Whistle LLC, a sports marketing company and representation firm. The new enterprise 
is an offshoot of The Content Factory, deCastro’s national syndication and new media company. “Let the games begin,” deCastro said in a statement. After The Whistle will represent college football and basketball coaches as well as “select media personalities,” deCastro said. The firm will specialize in “contract negotiations, branding, creative services, career planning, media training, imaging design, and production analytics to build, amplify and develop clients’ unique brands,” according to its website.
DeCastro also announced the hiring this week of Shanae Paulus as the company’s creative director. Paulus most recently served as creative media manager for WGN and Digital.And Then Some, the station’s in-house creative agency. Additional hiring and partnerships for After The Whistle will be introduced in the coming weeks. As head of The Content Factory, deCastro successfully managed Dan Patrick’s transition from ESPN to his own brand across a multitude of media platforms. In 2013 deCastro returned to local radio to head WGN under his onetime protege at Evergreen Media, Larry Wert, president of broadcast media for Tribune Broadcasting. After after three and a half years, he stepped down in October 2016.
NY Host Would Be Forced To Give Up Radio Job In Declaring Run For New Jersey Governor Primary
THE MOUTH, MARCH 21ST, 2017 –– Comedian turned radio host, Joe Piscopo has made it clear he's quite serious in his desire to run for governor of New Jersey to succeed Chris Christie. But even though he was a Donald Trump supporter, he plans to run as an independent in one of only two governor's races in the U.S. this year.
Piscopo, who airs on New York's AM970 The Answer, said "I am more serious about this than ever before. We're coming up with initiatives. It's all working out," he said. "I'm very, very excited to have an opportunity to help the people of New Jersey. 
I'm not being coy. I'm very careful and respectful," reports ctpost.com, He said he reached the decision because of the pending April 3 deadline to declare in the primary, which would force him to quit his radio job because of rules mandating that candidates get equal time on public airwaves. He also cited the need to set up campaign committees, which he hasn't yet done. He now faces a June 6 deadline to file as an independent, but says he hasn't decided when he will. Rock ’N’ Roll Pioneer Chuck Berry Passes Away At 90
THE MOUTH, MARCH 20TH, 2017 –– Credited with influencing numerous rock 
groups, including The Beatles, Rolling Stones and more,. rock ’n’ roll pioneer Chuck Berry passed away in Missouri last Saturday at the age of 90. Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as Chuck Berry, penned numerous hits in the 1950s and 1960s like “Sweet Little Sixteen,” “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Rock and Roll Music." He went on to become one of the first musicians inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
According to an line by John Lennon, “If you tried to give rock ‘n’ roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry." Others like Bruce Springstreen tweeted: "Chuck Berry was rock's greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock 'n' roll writer who ever lived." The Rolling Stones posted on their website: "The Rolling Stones are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Berry. He was a true pioneer of rock 'n' roll and a massive influence on us.
According to Huffpo, the notoriously interview-shy Berry, had been living out his later years in Ladue, Missouri — near his hometown. He never stopped writing music, and performed regular gigs at a local restaurant and club called Blueberry Hill.
