THE MOUTH, APRIL 4TH, 2013 –– William "Billy" Williams was sentenced Wednesday in the shooting death of DJ Megatron (shown), longtime star on BET's 106 & Park and former host on Hot 97/NY. According to The Vibe, DJ Megatron's killer pleaded guilty to manslaughter in January. The second assailant will be sentenced next week. Avril Lavigne Goes Buff On New Single Cover ‘Here's To Never Growing Up’

THE MOUTH, APRIL 4TH, 2013 –– Poop star Avril Lavigne joined KIIS/L.A.'s Ryan Seacrest yesterday to debut her new single “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” By all reports she arrived in her signature heavy eyeliner, fashion chains and fully clothed. Which is apparently a lot more than she wore for her single cover photo shoot. She tweeted the cover yesterday and, as best we can tell, aside from Teddy, there doesn't appear to be much else. We're not complaining, though. She tweeted: “Here’s my single cover!!!” We then quickly googled for more pics.. err, I mean info. Lavigne is engaged to Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.

Two Shades of Michael Gray; BBC Bid To Phone Sunderland Hero About O'Neill Sacking Is Epic Fail

THE MOUTH, APRIL 4TH, 2013 –– Sunderland's decision to sack manager Martin O'Neill on Saturday evening lead to red faces at BBC Radio 5 Live - as their attempts to get reaction to the decision backfired spectacularly. A perplexed student with the same name as the former Black Cats defender found himself speaking to the nation on 5 Live about manager's sacking. The station's late-night Stephen Nolan show thought they had lined up a chat with former Sunderland defender Michael Gray to discuss O'Neill's firing and where the relegation-threatened club goes from here. However, they had contacted the wrong Michael Gray. Instead of the north-east-accented former England international, they had got hold of Michael Gray, a student and writer from Glasgow - and unwittingly put him on the air. Gray (the student) later wrote on his blog: "Radio 5 Live called me back to confirm that I would be on the radio in five minutes. I was unsure about going ahead. The feedback from friends on Facebook included helpful advice such as, ‘This is hilarious’, ‘Surely they’ll cut you off’ and ‘Do it in a Sunderland accent!”

MVaughan Scorn - Denise Van Outen: It was a strain with former Big Breakfast pal Johnny Vaughan on radio show

Denise claimed last year that Johnny used to “fade her microphone down” on their Capital FM show. Denise Van Outen has hit back at Johnny Vaughan and insisted their relationship while they were radio co-hosts was “strained”. Denise claimed last year that Johnny used to “fade her microphone down” on the Capital FM show when she joined in 2008. She quit just six months later – halfway through her contract - and was replaced by Lisa Snowdon. Earlier this month, Johnny expressed disbelief that Denise had found their working partnership hard. They were known for their on-screen chemistry on The Big Breakfast on Channel 4. Johnny, 46, said: “It must be humour. She must be taking the p***. Anyone who has ever known me in radio knows that I can’t operate any of the machines. I owe her pretty much everything. Big Breakfast did everything for me."
But Denise is sticking by her claims. She said: “It was a very strained relationship at the time, for whatever reason. I’m not joking. It just wasn’t the relationship we had previously on TV. It was a very different and strained environment.”

David Letterman Pays Tribute To Leno Exit With Top 10 Things We'll Miss About Jay [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, APRIL 4TH, 2013 - Following yesterday's announcement of the much rumored move of 'Late Night's' Jimmy Fallon to 'The Tonight Show,' it didn't take long for longtime rival, David Letterman, to weigh in on the move. On last night's show he honored Leno with his Top 10 Things We'll Miss About Jay Leno. Among the list included: 5. If you broke down on the freeway, Jay was always right there with a camera crew to help. 4. Can't remember the name of the bit, but it's the one where Jay is walking. He also joked that now he's the only late night host who's not a Jimmy. In a more serious tone, Letterman said "I've known him 38 years," he said. "I've known Jay Leno for 38 years, thank you. I don’t know what aspect of that you’re applauding, but thank you. ... So now he’s out again, but going out on top. So congratulations to Jay, a job well done. ... But good luck to Jay. I know he’ll be out on the road, getting it done and taking care of business and congratulations on a nice long run there at the ‘Tonight Show,’ if in fact you’re not coming back.” PHOTO: Andrew Eccles/NBC - WATCH VIDEO HERE

RUMOR: Seth Myers Top Contender To Follow Fallon On 'Late Night'

THE MOUTH, APRIL 4TH, 2013 –– Now that Jimmy Fallon's move to "The Tonight Show," to follow Jay Leno has been announced, the question now swirling is who will follow him on 'Late Night?" The L.A. Times wrote that SNL's Seth Myers is rumored to be a top contender and given his New York base and lead writing ranks on SNL and ties to Lorne Michaels, that seems logical. Other names mentioned include fellow SNL cast member, John Mulaney, Chelsea Handler and Andy Cohen. Although the later, already host Bravo's “Watch What Happens Live” and its unlikely Bravo would let that happen. LA Times Meredith Blake joked "Since we’re just speculating wildly here: How about Anderson Cooper? He is reported to be in the running to replace Matt Lauer at “Today,” but who really wants to get up that early?" On a hunch, we'll go with Seth Meyers, but only time will tell. We'll save the other question of who follows Fallon on "The Tonight Show" should Jimmy Kimmel prove to much of a challenge.

Florida Hosts Return To The Air Following Hoax Suspension

THE MOUTH, APRIL 3RD, 2013 –– Gator Country 101.9, Val St. John and Scott Fish's (shown) returned to the air this morning following their April Fools “dihydrogen monoxide,” hoax led to their suspension. “It is one thing when radio stations change their format or other crazy things they do,” said GM Tony Renda to the News-Press. “But you are messing with one of the big three, food, water or shelter. They just went too far; I just knew I didn’t like that.” As Jockline Daily reported yesterday, Fort Myers FL's county public utility began receiving calls from residents asking if their water was safe following the April Fool's water bit they heard on the air. This even led a public information officer to wonder if it was a felony to call in a false water quality issue. In the meantime, Val and Scott were back on the air this morning and noted on their Facebook Page: "It's been a rough few days, but your outpouring of support has been overwhelming and we can't thank you enough." 1

STUDY: Outside Music Platforms Continue To Rise Among Younger Listeners

THE MOUTH, APRIL 3RD, 2013 –– Two new studies: one from the NPD Group, the other from Arbitron, are making it even clearer that platforms beyond terrestrial radio are continuing to gain steam. While AM/FM radio is still users top choice for music, Pandora and other free subscription-based Internet radio services are continuing to rise, especially by younger listeners according to a new study from NPD Group. During the fourth quarter of 2012, Internet radio accounted for 23 percent of the average weekly listening among those between 13 and 35, an increase of 17 percent over the previous year. AM/FM radio accounted for 24 percent of listening time during the same quarter, a 2% drop from last year. Terrestrial radio, however, is still way more popular among older listeners. In the 36+ group, AM/FM accounted for 41 percent of music listening, compared to just 13 percent for Internet radio. In yet another study from Arbitron/Edison, it reports that one in three MAmericans aged 12 and older now listen to all forms of online radio on a weekly basis. Among its other findings it says AM/FM radio is an "almost all of the times" or "most of the times" in-car choice for nearly six in ten adults aged 18 and over; dashboard AM/FM radio (58 percent). Among the nearly half of Americans (45 percent) who say it is important to learn about and keep up-to-date with new music, AM/FM Radio is the top source for new music discovery at 78 percent. "We are now seeing the highest levels of weekly online radio listening with the increasing strength of AM/FM streams and other online radio brands and the near ubiquity of devices in which consumers can listen," said Bill Rose, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Arbiter.

Back Pain Puts Regular Guys' Tim Andrews On Gurney To Hospital

THE MOUTH, APRIL 3RD, 2013 –– Listeners of Rock 100.5 Atlanta's The Regular Guys' may have thought it was an April Fools joke this past Monday upon learning that cast member, Tim Andrews, was being wheeled out in a gurney because of a back pain. According to the AJC's Rodney Ho, he landed in a hospital after a back muscle strain became so debilitating, he couldn't move. "I giggle. I can't believe this is happening," Larry Wachs said Tuesday morning on Rock 100.5. "It's embarrassing. I felt more bad for his ego than his back problems. He had a muscle knot. He was in such pain, he couldn't walk. He tapped out of the show! I'm ashamed of him." Co-host Eric Von Haessler added "It seemed to be ridiculous to me. A gurney for a pulled muscle? You should have internal organ failure to be taken out on a gurney... Taken out like a 70 year old woman from a country club." Von Haessler said he watched Andrews drop to the ground at about 9:15 a.m. "I thought he had a heart attack," he said. "I have abject pity," Wachs said. "It's a confluence of all his financial and emotional and social and sexual problems... He was literally paralyzed with his problems." Both Larry and Eric kept repeating this wasn't April Fool's Day joke. And as any host of a radio show can appreciate, Andrews, thinking he was going to ridiculed, refused to go on the phone to discuss the matter with TRG while he recuperated.

Gene & Julie Still Cookin' In Dallas

THE MOUTH, APRIL 3RD, 2013 –– It's been awhile since longtime morning hosts, Gene and Julie, have been away from the mic, but make no mistake about it, they're still very much cooking. Cooking from their own Dallas restaurant, that is. The former KVIL-FM morning show reached out to bring us up to speed on their new eatery. Gene Gates tells Jockline Daily that he owned a restaurant and was Director of Operations for a chain of restaurants before The Gene & Julie Show, so this has been in the works for awhile to complement our radio career. Battuto Italian Kitchen (shown) is a rustic, farm-to-table concept inspired by the Slow Food Movement.  We are definitely not done with radio, but are taking time right now to get this concept off the ground properly.  We are finding this has been incredible for our creativity so we can't wait to harness that new creative energy into a radio program. There have been a few set-backs along the restaurant journey.  Like when our expensive, 2,000-pound Woodstone Pizza oven arrived to the restaurant... and it wouldn't fit through the kitchen doors so we had to park it in the DINING ROOM for three months while we devised a way to fit it in the kitchen," says Gene. You can watch the progression at www.facebook.com/BattutoDallas Nice write up in local paper, too - READ HERE
