BOBBY BONES: "The Feedback Yesterday Was Mostly Shock"

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 5TH, 2013 –– Following yesterday's blockbuster announcement that Austin's highly rated Bobby Bones Show would be shifting from CHR to Country and be syndicated nationally by Premiere Networks, got tongues wagging. "The feedback yesterday was mostly shock," Bones tells Jockline Daily. "I think most people are excited that we're basically doing the same show, just on a different kind of format. I told the story about how I hated pop music when I got into CHR and I grew to love it. The difference now is that I already love country music. There will always be people who aren't happy with what decisions you but most were very supportive. As far as the stations we are going to, they pretty much don't like us already... or they'd already be listening! But we can't wait to convert them. I cant wait to be the new face of country music radio. I think there is a disconnect of what the young country listener is and what they are getting on the radio right now. Just give me a mic and let me be funny, and I'm happy. and I'm even happier to be doing it on Country stations nationwide." As Jockline Daily first reported, Bones is headed to Nashville where WSIX-FM will serve as his new flagship station. And we couldn't help but ask Bones about that new bespectacled look (above right). He told us "Here is a picture of me at 19 when I started at KHFI (inset). I have always had them. Just started wearing them all the time now b/c my vision is getting worse. the joys of turning 30." The photo at center is from a few months ago.

BOOMER ESIASON: Heard Buzzing From Superdome Ceiling After Beyoncé Performance [AUDIO]

7THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 5TH, 2013 –– Questions still remain about what caused that bizarre 34 minute power outage during Sunday's Super Bowl. WFAN/New York's Boomer Esiason (shown) weighed in on yesterday's Boomer & Carton Show and thinks Beyonce's performance could have been the culprit. "Howie Deneroff, our executive producer at Dial Global, had the brilliant idea of calling in on hard land lines. When’s the last time you used a hard-land-line telephone, right? So we had two of them in our booth. We called to the New York studios, we patched through to those studios, and Kevin Harlan and I were describing what was going in inside the Superdome via telephone over the radio waves ... about five or six minutes prior to, I guess, the breaker going, where our radio booth was up on the seventh floor, we were almost at the ceiling of the dome, and Kevin says to me, ‘Man, do you hear that buzzing?’ And I took my headset off and there was this like electrical buzz sound coming from the ceiling. This was after halftime, it was after Beyonce." He then added “By the way, Beyonce blew the electric in the Superdome twice, I’m told, during her rehearsals during the week.” LISTEN TO CBS AUDIO

Loud Radio Upsets Gophers Fan, Leads to Three-Hour Standoff With Police

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 5TH, 2013 –– Radio has always helped drive people to work, but now you can add police stand-off to the list. According to Minneapolis' Star Tribune,
Daniel Thomas Drobac (shown), allegedly threatened to kill a utilities worker last month because her radio volume was too high. He became irate while watching a recording of a Gophers basketball game and overheard the outcome of the game being played on the worker's radio. Officers arrived to a home in Eagan after she called police. Following a 3 hour standoff with police, A SWAT team and police negotiator, Drobac was eventually arrested without incident. During questioning, the man allegedly told police he had yelled to ask the victim to turn her radio off, but denied threatening her or throwing a knife out of his house. Police say Drobac yelled twice at the utilities worker. The second time, Drobac allegedly told the woman "I’m not kidding, I’m going to [expletive] shoot you." Following the threat, police say the victim called 911 and hid inside a tent set up around the utility box she was repairing. Drobac faces one felony count of terroristic threats following the incident, which took place last month.

Nienaber Offers Promotional Pearls For St. Patty's Day

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 5TH, 2013 –– Where there's a holiday, lurching in the bushes nearby is radio's perennial stunt maven, Paige Nienaber. With St. Patty's Day just a few short weeks away, we couldn't help but share some of Nienaber's top suggestions for the coming holy day. Among our favorites, • Include Cinco De Patrick - One of the competitors had a Cinco de Mayo float in that market’s St. Patty’s Day parade. Jocks in sombreros. Handed out 1000’s of jars of Chi Chi’s salsa. They were very apologetic. Screwed up their holidays • Lepracondoms: It's always responsible to promote safe sex. If you got your hands on some green condoms, then they'd be Lepracondoms. • My Big Fat Irish Wedding - The movie is way over but “wacky weddings” are always press magnets. • Cereal Killing     KUBE used to do a St. Patrick’s broadcast at a place called Jakes. Among the events they did was a Lucky Charms dive. They filled a wading pool with the cereal and had people dive in to look for prizes. You could bury an emerald or cash (green) in amongst the cereal, too. • The Thong Remainth The Thame - This could be St. Panties Day. Get some logo'ed green underwear and blow them out all day. KKMG in Colorado Springs did this and it was one of their biggest events of 2004. The underwear was worn as admission to the stations club gig. This has transformed into one of the annual bits that the audience anticipates and plans for. Ditto with NOU in Indy. Sample underwear shown. WANT MORE? Contact Paige HERE

Jared Pike Loses Bet; Garners Worldwide Attention [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 5TH, 2013 – We could fill a month's worth of Jockline Daily with failed Super Bowl Bets, but at least one of them made its way to the broad screen, via social media, giant websites and a rather pronounced adult diaper. That's 107.5/KZL Greensboro's Jared Pike (shown) who bet against the Baltimore Ravens. He's the co-host and producer of the morning show who made good on the loss by wearing only an adult diaper and a chef’s and covered his body with 107.5 KZL stickers. Of course, the bigger payoff for the bit was the coverage. A quick Google search will find the story spread all over the globe, plus a key mention in AOL and numerous others. CHECK OUT VIDEO

Call Into Elliot Show, Leads To Investigation [AUDIO]

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 4TH, 2013 –– DC 101 WA's Elliot in the morning show was talking last week about the story from Georgia about a teacher who was arrested for having (s)ex with seven students. This prompted A caller from Chesterfield County to say when she was a teen, she had sex with several teachers and a cop, according to WTVR TV. “Hi, Elliot in the Morning.” “Hi, how are you?” “How are you?” “Good, thanks. Um, I`m just calling about the juggling thing. When I was 16 and 17 I was juggling.. um, two teachers, a substitute teacher and …" "Wait. What was that last one?," asked Elliot. “A police officer that worked at the school.” That call now has the Chesterfield Police internal affairs unit investigating the possible (s)exual misconduct of one of their own from more than a decade ago. When Elliot asked if she had (s)ex with them?” “Yeah. All of them,” she said. She was more specific about the cop. “The cop, you know, ..He was like, supposed to be, like, monitoring the football game. There was construction like beside the school and we drove over there.”..So that`s where all of this took place?” “What?” “That`s where it took place?” “Yes.”Chesterfield schools are now working with the police to uncover more facts about what they’re calling a serious matter. - LISTEN TO AUDIO

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 4TH, 2013 –– The power outage during yesterday's Super Bowl may have silenced several of the reporters during its coverage, but Dial Global's play-by-play man Kevin Harlan (shown) turned to old-reliable, a land line, to make the call during the outage. Dial Global tweeted this picture of Harlan making the most of the situation. Kevin's call prompted several tweets including" "Don't you love radio stations who do a remote broadcast via telephone? Yeah, that's how Dial Global is broadcasting from the Super Bowl, now." EVP of DG Sports Howard Deneroff told Jockline Daily, All of our announcers were actually on the phone. Did Beyonce Cause Yesterday's Power Outage In The Superdome?

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 4TH, 2013 –– Lots of fingerpointing in New Orleans yesterday following the 34 minute power outage during the Super Bowl. At the time, The Baltimore Ravens were leading the San Francisco 49ers 28-6 when most of the lights with 13:22 left in the third quarter. A couple of hours after the game, officials cited an "abnormality" in the power system that triggered the shutdown and a number of new sources credited an unnamed radio reporter as pointing the blame at the Beyonce halftime show which may have overloaded the system. And while the identity of the reporter wasn't shared, Jon Frosch tweeted "Dial Global radio just explained this by saying 'Beyonce used all the power." According to USA Today, Philip Allison, a spokesman for Entergy New Orleans, told the Associated Press that all the feeds into the Superdome were operating as expected and that the blackout was most probably the result of improperly maintained equipment at the venue."
