[WATCH] Talk Hosts Play Pivotal Role In Wis. GOP Primary

7

THE MOUTH, APRIL 7TH, 2016 –– One of the strongest forces Donald Trump faced in Wisconsin's Republican primary, wasn't just Ted Sen. Ted Cruz, rather, a group of conservative talk radio show hosts reports CNN. Pointing out perhaps the billionaire's most contentious interview since launching his campaign, with WTMJ/Milwaukee's Charlie Sykes (JL 3/29), this was matched with other criticism from hosts such as Jeff Wagner, Mark Belling, Vicki McKenna and Jay Weber.

Predictably, Trump turned his wrath on them for three days in a row. "This morning I was interviewed by a very good radio guy -- not the whack job that interviewed me -- his name is Sykes? ... Oh he is the worst," Trump said at a rally on Saturday. He added, "These crazy talk show hosts who I dealt with. I call them 'Hello. Do you know I'm for anybody but Trump?' I said I didn't know that. Go ahead. What's your question? I don't care." A total of six radio hosts throughout the state criticized Trump on their shows. Green Bay host Jerry Bader told CNN on Tuesday he was motivated by Trump's temperament. He said the group of six shared some concerns but did not coordinate with each other. "We are pragmatic. We are quite frankly sophisticated enough not to buy his crap, and we do it independently." WATCH HERE

SURPRISE: Lawyers Ask For New Trial Against Hulk Hogan

THE MOUTH, APRIL 7TH, 2016 –– Lawyers for Gawker Media asked for a new trial on Monday after a jury awarded Hulk Hogan $140 million reports businessinsider.com. The jury held Gawker founder Nick Denton and former editor A.J. Daulerio, who posted 7the tape, personally liable. Hogan was also awarded $25.1 million in punitive damages on top of $115 million in compensatory damages. If a new trial isn't granted, Gawker's lawyers are asking a Florida state court to vacate or dramatically reduce the amount of damages awarded to Hogan.

The case centers around a clip, lasting 1 minute 41 seconds, of Hogan having (s)ex several years earlier with radio's Bubba The Love Sponge Clem's wife. Gawker's lawyers based their request for new trial on four key points including that the jury, based in Florida, where Hogan is from, based its verdict on "passion and prejudice" and, in particular, on its "general distaste for the Defendants [Gawker]," according to the motion. They also say that the jury's verdict went "against the manifest evidence of the case" because Hogan's (s)ex tape was indeed a matter of "public concern," and that Hogan lacked a "reasonable expectation of privacy in his sexual encounters. BLOG: Great Content Missed By 90% Of The Audience

THE MOUTH, APRIL 7TH, 2016 –– Amplifi's Steve Goldstein most recent blog cites BIA/Kelsey latest data on the highest billing stations in America. Once again WTOP, Washington was deservedly at the top of the heap. Without question, one of the prime architects of WTOP was Jim Farley, now CEO, News Doctor, Inc., who for 17-years served as WTOP's VP of News and Programming. Goldstein writes: "Jim, who remains one of the thought leaders in the talk radio business, came up to me recently at Talk Show Boot Camp in Ft. Lauderdale after a presentation about podcasting I did with Westwood One CMO Pierre Bouvard. What he told me blew me away. Jim said he walked into the 7room a non-believer about radio's prospects with podcasting and left convinced that radio was missing a golden opportunity to further expose its content.

"So much of the great content created by WTOP is missed by over 90% of the audience," Jim said. "And with podcasting, WTOP and for that matter, all radio stations, now have a method to expose their content to a larger audience. Bingo. One of the pioneers and leading voices in news-talk is on board. Jim talked about the "fitness, foodie, gardening and astronomer features that are low hanging fruit on WTOP." He also talked about the potential of "cross-promoting extended interviews." Jim said; "this is a slam dunk. It dawned on me that this is another distribution channel." His concern prior to the session had been a radio station's ability to create and monetize podcast-only content. While the session may not have alleviated all of those concerns, the ability to time-shift content as radio experiences "new threats and challenges" seems a natural extension. While WTOP does "put some audio on a web page," Farley said, "it needs to be easier to find and consume."

Jim went into the session a skeptic and left an advocate. That made my trip. Jim told me "I started in 1966 and I'm still learning new stuff." Ain't that the truth. Aren't we all. Steve Goldstein is CEO of Amplifi Media.

Longtime Bob & Tom Cast Member Kristi Lee Launches Podcast

THE MOUTH, APRIL 5TH, 2016 –– Kristi Lee, who left the syndicated Bob & Tom Show last January, is launching a podcast. "Kristi Lee Uninterrupted" will debut Tuesday with five episodes at once reports ibj.com. Her guests will include names familiar to "Bob & Tom" fans, including recently retired co-host Bob Kevoian (shown), former "Nick at Nite" host and public speaker Dr. Will Miller, Morty’s Comedy Joint owner Chris Bowers, and comedian and actress 7Jen Kober.

Brad Shoemaker, whose Indianapolis-based Creative Zombie LTD podcast studio is producing Lee’s show, thinks the new podcast will have a considerable following due in part to Lee's notoriety from the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Show. Some of the more popular podcasts Shoemaker’s studio produces get around 3,000 downloads a week.

“With someone like Kristi Lee, who has a national following, I could see it surpassing that by a long shot,” he said. The length of Lee’s main weekly shows “will be dictated by the content,” Shoemaker said. Lee’s discussion with Kevoian lasted 75 minutes. “What we want in general is a good bite-sized bit you can listen to driving to and from work,” Shoemaker said. The shows will consist of interviews, mixed with news bits, observations, comedy and “getting to know more about Kristi’s life.” Lee told IBJ on Friday “Part of this is proving I can do my own thing,” she said. “Not only can I be a support character, but proving I can carry a show.”
