[LISTEN] Jamie Dupree Returns To The Air With An Assist From New Technology

THE MOUTH, JUNE 12TH, 2018 –– Cox Media Washington DC correspondent Jamie Dupree is back on the air thanks to a new technological solution that involves the use of old tape recordings. According to The AJC's Rodney Ho, Dupree was sidelined from News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB for two years due to a rare vocal condition called tongue protrusion dystonia, which causes his tongue to get in the way of him speaking normally. Dupree sought medical solutions nationwide to no avail. Internally, Dupree’s employer Cox Media Group sought a technological solution and found a Scottish company called CereProc, which used years of archived Dupree audio and built a voice for him.

When paired with a text-to-speech application, he will start providing audio stories next week to Cox radio stations. As Dupree noted in his blog note today, it sounds a little robotic but it is his voice. He dubbed it: “Jamie Dupree 2.0.” Dupree has been working for Cox for nearly 30 years. ‘Mobshot’ Podcast Being Eyed For TV With K-Earth's Gary Bryan To Produce

THE MOUTH, JUNE 12TH, 2018 –– Deadline reports that L.A. morning radio vet Gary Bryan is set to produce 'Mobshot: My Life In The Mafia the podcast, now being eyed for a TV Series. The podcast and audiobook (the latter published last year by Radio Genius) centers on the life of Vince Ciacci (L) a longtime member of New York’s Little Italy gang who went from tormented child to feared criminal and eventually to redemption.

Gary Bryan, host of KRTH-FM’s morning show for over 15 years, serves as executive producer on the series project. The pilot and series bible was penned by John Murphy (Emmy winner for CBS’ The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation).

Ciacci, who now lives in Los Angeles, will also serve as an executive producer.

The Morning Show With Cruise & Julia To Debut June 18th On AMP 98.7 Detroit

iHeart Launches Real Talk 910AM Progressive Talk San Francisco; Debuts ESPN Ashville

New Country 92.3'S Stacey and Jonah's 'One Pet, One Vet' Drive Exceeds Goal

Cort Johnson Rejoins 101.9 KINK as APD/PM Drive Host

THE MOUTH, JUNE 11TH, 2018 –– Cort Johnson, a 20-plus-year broadcast veteran, will rejoin the staff of Alpha Media Portland’s heritage AAA station 101.9 KINK FM as Assistant Program Director and afternoon drive host. Cort started his radio career at his high school radio station. He then attended Brigham Young University, followed by a stint in the promotions department for Salt Lake City’s KENZ (Citadel). WAKY Radio Celebrates 60th Anniversary

THE MOUTH, JUNE 11TH, 2018 –– The Courier-Journal published an amazing look back at the legendary top-40 WAKY as it celebrates 60 years on-air. "WAKY put the crazy in Louisville's rock 'n' roll radio," writes Jeffrey Lee Puckett of the journal. At 790 AM, kids back in the day cruised past its Fourth Street studio (shown above) on their way to Kingfish and back again. As Louisville's first Top 40 rock 'n' roll station, WAKY held court in grand style until the rise of FM. Johnny Randolph, the man who many credit with making WAKY a powerhouse, is still there, now playing classics from 3-7 p.m.

During its reign, the station featured and an amazing cast of on-air talent and programmers. Among the many included Bill Bailey (TL) that began in 1970. Others included Jarl Mohn, then known as Lee Masters, now president and CEO of NPR He also founded the E! Network and was an executive at MTV and VH1. Coyote Calhoun was WAKY's Wolfman Jack. Then, of course, the iconic Gary Burbank (BL) who went on to national fame through his Earl Pitts character, plus stints at WNOE New Orleans, CKLW Detroit and Cincinnati's WLW. Newsmen Len King and Mike Summers founded CNN Radio for Ted Turner while Al Smith became Turner's Director of Broadcast Operations, overseeing his television and radio empires. Even the station's freelancers were stars-to-be: Southern High School student Dan Mason contributed sports reports and went on to be CEO of CBS Radio.

Where It All Began, Kellar Radio Talent Institute Begins Today In Boone, NC

SNAPS: KOPN Tops Guinness World Record For Most Interviews

THE MOUTH, JUN 11TH, 2018 –– Columbia Missouri's KOPN host Sean Spence is all smiles after breaking the Guinness World Record for the most radio interviews in 24 hours on Sunday reports The Columbia Missourian. Spence broke the previous record of 347, with local residents lining up inside the radio station for interviews.

After only eight hours, the station had completed about half of the number of interviews needed to break the record. Spence had 24 hours to interview more than 347 people on air. Spence asked each interviewee five questions before moving on to the next. He kept a list of over 1,000 questions on hand to help keep questions unique.

The line for interviews was so long, not everyone was able to be interviewed before the 24 hours was up.
