NRHOF Opens Ballotting To The Public Again

THE MOUTH, JUNE 19TH, 2015 –– Radio listeners will once again have a voice in selecting inductees to the National Radio Hall of Fame. According to Media blogger Robert Feder, via social media the public will be invited to vote later this year in two categories among eight 7nominees to be designated by the 18-member Radio Hall of Fame steering committee.

The process will involve a 400-person panel, including radio executives, programmers, past inductees, executive directors of state broadcast associations, and members of the trade media. Inductees will be honored November 5 at the 2015 induction ceremony. Since 2011 the public has been shut out of the Radio Hall of Fame voting process

Kraig Kitchin, who succeeded Bruce DuMont last July as chairman of the Radio Hall of Fame, told All Access in 2014 “Voting is one part of the process that should be open to the public. The nominating committee knows the radio industry well enough to take into account the entire body.” Kitchin is the co-founder and former president and chief operating officer of Premiere Radio Networks, is co-president of Los Angeles-based Sound Mind Inc., co-president of Big Shoes Productions, a programming production company owned by syndicated radio host Delilah and now, as reported above, will serve as interim CEO for TheBlaze. And he changed his language.” On the subject of radio, it was clear this is where they had a clear connection. THE MOUTH, JUNE 18TH, 2015 –– For the second time this year, WSCR AM 670 talk show host 7Dan Bernstein (L), one half of the popular Boers And Bernstein Show, is in hot water again after tweeting an offensive message about a another female TV personality. According to media blogger Robert Feder, CBS Radio pulled Bernstein from his afternoon show on Wednesday and ordered him to delete a tweet he posted Monday night about Cheryl Scott, the meteorologist on Chicago's WLS-Channel 7.

Bernstein's tweet came just minutes after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, when he posted “And the real award for this year’s close connection to the @NHLBlackhawks is @CherylScottWX!!” Apparently a veiled jab at unsubstantiated rumors linking her romantically to one or more Blackhawks players which she flatly denied last March. According to Feder, on Wednesday Bernstein was hit with a one-day suspension and was ordered to remove the message.

You may recall last March when Bernstein landed in hot water following an exchange of tweets with midday co-host Matt Spiegel that took aim at Aiyana Cristal, an anchor/reporter for Comcast SportsNet Chicago. The comments were viewed by many as (s)exist and offensive and both hosts later apologized with Bernstein adding: “I’m an idiot.” Bernstein is expected back today for his afternoon show.
