THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2017 –– As Jockline reported earlier this week, longtime morning co-host Dallas (BR) took over MD duties at Kicks 101.5 Atlanta with word that a new morning lineup would be announced today. And to help manage her new MD duties, Dallas will slide up to middays. The search is now on for an afternoon 5talent

"I’ve known for about two weeks that Dallas was going to accept the position of Music Director at KICKS 1015," said Caddy. "I could not be more proud of her – she has an ear for music and will also be heard during your workday from 10a-3p weekdays. Dallas will remain one of my dearest friends as she has been for nearly two decades."

"It took no time at all to realize that the morning show could be completed with two very talented personalities already on the KICKS 1015 Air Force. Welcome CJ (former host of the “More Music Drive Home”) and Ali Mac (who hosted “At Work With Ali Mac”) to the Cadillac Jack Morning Show! "

STUDY: Smart Speakers Are Bringing Audio Back To People's Homes

5

THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2017 –– According to The Infinite Dial 2017, 7% of Americans 12+ own a “Smart Speaker,” the category of voice-controlled devices that includes the Amazon Echo and Google Home. Now, for the first time, a new study from NPR and Edison Research reveals the habits and behaviors of Smart Speaker owners. This study, entitled “The Smart Audio Report from NPR and Edison Research,” reveals that 70% of Smart Speaker owners say they are listening to more audio at home since acquiring their device. In addition, 65% of Smart Speaker owners indicate that they would not want to go back 5to their lives before getting one of these devices. Indeed, 42% of owners say that their device is now “essential” to their everyday lives. One of the more intriguing findings was the appeal of these devices to parents. Eight in ten parents say these devices have made it easier to entertain their children, and nearly 90% say their children enjoy Smart Speakers.

Although Smart Speakers have not been around for very long, nearly one in five owners say that these devices are the way that they most often listen to audio,” noted Edison VP of Strategy Tom Webster. “The frictionless way in which these devices enable audio consumption is already changing listening behaviors, and potentially increasing audio consumption overall.”

The Smart Audio Report, from NPR and Edison Research, contains numerous insights that have never before been reported on audio consumption, usage behaviors, ties to Smart home technology and more. The study was presented for the first time at the RAIN Podcast Business Summit in New York. A full report on the findings will be available to download from Edison Research after a public webinar happening Wednesday, June 28, from 2-3PM ET. Register for the webinar HERE

PODCASTS: iHeart Debuts All-New Celebrity Podcast Series 'Label Defiers'

THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2017 –– Launched on Wednesday with Miley Cyrus as the debut guest to kick off a series of intimate, raw and unfiltered conversations. Hosted by the syndicated radio host 5Elvis Duran, the bi-weekly podcast features stars discussing how they perceive their own labels, challenges they’ve faced, and their idiosyncrasies.

Essentially, they are debunking public perception and talking directly to their fans about who they really are, instead of the familiar labels they’ve acquired through fame. With regard to her own childhood, Miley told Elvis, "When you're in this industry, adults treat kids like adults. I think the way people judge you or people would write articles on me when I was a kid going through the times of having crazy breakouts or going through break ups or whatever I was going through, people would treat me like I could handle those comments as an adult, like I had this thick skin." Manager Disputes Former Host's Claims Of Being Fired Over Trump Criticism

5

THE MOUTH, JUNE 21ST, 2017 – The general manager of Pennsylvania's WTPA-FM is denying a former host's claims that he lost his job for criticizing President Trump reports Fox News. In a story that spread nationally (likely due to the Trump connection) former WTPA host Bruce Bond told Fox News he felt he was 'forced to quit' after being told four times he had to refrain from political commentary on his talk show.

"I just cannot go on any longer doing this radio show if I can’t be honest and I don’t want to be walking on eggshells in case the subject of Donald trump comes up," Bond said. However, the station's general manager told Fox News he warned Bond "multiple times" to refrain from all political talk -- whether it be pro or against Trump.

"Bruce was hired to do an entertainment based show and he was cautioned many times in making political comments," WTPA's general manager Tim Michaels told Fox. "Because we wanted to be welcoming to anyone listening to our station and we don’t want to offend anybody because obviously there are people from all political affiliations listening to classic rock." Michaels said his "directive was not don’t talk disparagingly about Trump. It was don’t talk about politics at all." Michaels also revealed he received "numerous calls from listeners that were offended by Bruce's program who were threatening actions against the station which prompted me to again bring this to his attention." Michaels said the station has accepted his resignation and wishes him well. PHOTO/Bond Twitter

Nielsen Tracks Summer 2017 Radio Listening; Classic Rock Paces Past Last Year's Numbers

5

THE MOUTH, JUNE 21ST, 2017 –– Each year during the summer, radio habits change and certain formats see a seasonal increase in audience that’s unique to the warm weather months. And each year, Nielsen tracks these developments by naming the format that grows its audience the most the format of the summer. With the summer of 2017 upon us—and the release of Nielsen’s May portable people meter (PPM) ratings—it’s useful to read a bit of the tea leaves in the data trends as we look ahead to the season.

5Overall, Nielsen shows that Classic Rock—last summer’s outstanding format—surging and already outpacing last year’s numbers. A year ago in May 2016, the Classic Rock format had a 5.1% share of the listening audience (persons 6+). At the same time, Urban Contemporary is quietly setting some new benchmarks, tying the all-time mark this month in total listener share. When we dive into the results among Millennial listeners (18-34 year-olds), Urban Contemporary jumps to the top of this small analysis, and again sets a new record this month with a 7.0% share, up from 6.5% in May 2016. Country is also growing its Millennial audience, which increased from 7.2% in the Holiday book to 8.7% in May.

And finally on a 25-to-54 audience basis, Country remains at the top of this summer horse-race pack, moving up one-10th of a share-point in each of the past few months. Classic Rock is also moving steadily upward, while Classic Hits has been up and then down. We also see that Urban Contemporary set another new record in May among 25-54 year-olds. Over the next three summer ratings books (June through August), we’ll be keeping a close eye on these formats, particularly Urban Contemporary, which is already having one of its best years in terms of PPM data. Classic Hits and Classic Rock have attracted solid listener bases in each of the past three summers, but only time will tell if American radio listeners will sing a different song this year.

LA Weekly Takes A Close-Up And Very Long Look At Stephanie Miller - From Home Studio

5

THE MOUTH, JUNE 21ST, 2017 –– As far as articles on radio personalities go, this piece by LA Weekly's Bryan Smith may rank as one of the longest, most in-depth ever. Smith opines, "Stephanie Miller's lack of big-time name recognition beyond Los Angeles remains something of a paradox, given the stunning size of her audience." From her Los Feliz home studio, Smith 5says, "Miller does what she does — seamlessly blends a mélange of fart jokes, bleeped-out profanities, morning zoo slide whistles, harp tinkles, parody songs skewering Trump (Bob Dylan's "Tangerine Man" repurposed as a Trump diss) and Ginsu-sharp wit into what may be the smartest, sharpest, 5funniest, fiercest progressive political comedy soufflé on the planet. From there, shhe has emerged as one of the nation's most influential radio personalities, certainly the most consequential to be operating without mainstream fame.

Since Trump's election, she has held regular "resistance" dinners, with a highly curated guest list that includes everyone from political heavy-hitters like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, to Hollywood celebs like Lily Tomlin and Rob Reiner, to high-level operators such as Malcolm Nance, intelligence analyst for NBC, and Lisa Bloom, the lawyer largely responsible for taking down Fox's Bill O'Reilly. "There's no bullshit," Reiner, the director of This Is Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally, says of Miller. "She doesn't mince words and she doesn't throw out lies. "People (on the right) will say, 'Well, Stephanie is just as ridiculous as Infowars and Alex Jones," Reiner adds. "No. Alex Jones says that Sandy Hook was a made-up thing. Stephanie doesn't say anything insane like that. You may not agree with her politics, but she doesn't make (s)hit up." READ ENTIRE ARTICLE HERE - PHOTO/Credit Ted Soqui/L.A. Weekly
