Casey Kasem's Widow Files Wrongful Death Suit Against Host's Adult Children

THE MOUTH, JUNE 23RD, 2017 –– The tragic story of radio-great Casey Kasem's death and family drama plays on yet again. The widow of Casey Kasem has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the radio personality's three adult children reports Rolling Stone. Jean Kasem claims that Kerri, Mike and Julie Kasem, along with Julie's husband and their attorney Troy Martin, perpetrated a "homicidal guardianship scam" and, per a statement, "chemically restrained their father and then killed him to go after Casey and Jean's financial assets." Jean is also accusing the Kasem children of harassment and making fraudulent claims of elder abuse as part of their attempts to gain guardianship over Kasem.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Kerri Kasem denied the claims. "The only homicidal part was her unplugging my father's IV and feeding tube and leaving the hospital with my dad," Kerri says. "If a mom delivered a preemie and said, 'You know what? I'm going to take this baby home. I don't care what you say' and the baby died three weeks later, that mom would've been brought up on murder charges." Kasem died June 15th, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Kerri and her lawyer, Troy Martin,argue that Jean Kasem's new suit is an attempt to stall a wrongful death lawsuit the Kasem children filed against Jean and Liberty in 2015. "We have confidence that the lawsuit will be dismissed in very short order," Martin says of Jean's new filing. "She has done everything that she can to dodge her responsibility [in the 2015 case]. THE MOUTH, JUNE 23RD, 2017 –– Six weeks ago Paul Tonelli (inset) co-host of The Lamont & Tonelli show (bottom right) on KSAN/107.7 The Bone, was playing basketball at The Bay Club in downtown San Francisco when he grabbed a rebound, went up for a lay-up and fell to the floor with a chest “incident.” Immediately other Bay Club members snapped into action, running to the front desk to call 911. Deb Hall (shown above) was at the front desk, and ran to the gym. There, she performed chest compressions on Paul, who was turning a “pretty blue” color.

Bob Young (shown above), who works at the Bay Club, used a defibrillator twice on Paul to help keep him alive until paramedics could get to the club. Lamont & Tonelli invited Neal Grace, Ron Wilson & Paul McDonald (left), who were on the basketball court with Paul, on to their show Thursday morning. [WATCH] Ryan Seacrest Thinks Hosting 'Idol' Reboot Is 'Doable' - How He Would Do It

THE MOUTH, JUNE 23RD, 2017 –– Negotiations continue with Ryan Seacrest and ABC executives over his likely return to American Idol's TV reboot. “Do I think I will?” Seacrest asked. “The puzzle is a matrix. I love the show. I have great affection for the show, and I think the show will be tremendously successful on ABC.” Seacrest revealed this while in France at Cannes Lions, annual advertising conference where he joined with other top iHeart executives. In explaining how he'd manage his multiple gigs in taking on this role, Variety says he’d fly from New York to L.A. to host the live talent show, and then back again on a redeye. “That is one of the things I’m looking at, just on my globe, just what time the show ends and what time I start the next day in New York,” Seacrest said in an interview at the Variety Studio. “I think it’s doable.”

But will the show be different? “I think there are tweaks that the show will make and can make to update itself for 2017," he said. "But at the core, the format is the format — that’s the strength of the show: the story telling and the talent… So I don’t think you reinvent the wheel.” “The Voice” recently claimed Kelly Clarkson as a judge on the NBC rival show, even though “Idol” had been wooing her, too. “Was I bummed?” Seacrest said. “I’m happy if she’s doing what she wants to do and she’s happy. Country Radio Broadcasters Induct the Class of 2017 into the Country Radio Hall of Fame

STUDY: Smart Speakers Are Bringing Audio Back To People's Homes

THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2017 –– According to The Infinite Dial 2017, 7% of Americans 12+ own a “Smart Speaker,” the category of voice-controlled devices that includes the Amazon Echo and Google Home. Now, for the first time, a new study from NPR and Edison Research reveals the habits and behaviors of Smart Speaker owners. This study, entitled “The Smart Audio Report from NPR and Edison Research,” reveals that 70% of Smart Speaker owners say they are listening to more audio at home since acquiring their device. In addition, 65% of Smart Speaker owners indicate that they would not want to go back to their lives before getting one of these devices. Indeed, 42% of owners say that their device is now “essential” to their everyday lives. One of the more intriguing findings was the appeal of these devices to parents. Eight in ten parents say these devices have made it easier to entertain their children, and nearly 90% say their children enjoy Smart Speakers.

Although Smart Speakers have not been around for very long, nearly one in five owners say that these devices are the way that they most often listen to audio,” noted Edison VP of Strategy Tom Webster. “The frictionless way in which these devices enable audio consumption is already changing listening behaviors, and potentially increasing audio consumption overall.”
