It's Anchors Away For Beats 1 Radio, Now Taking Requests

5

THE MOUTH, JULY 1ST, 2015 –– The world finally got their first listen to Apple's Beats 1 Radio and judging by feedback on social media it made a huge splash. Zane Lowe opened with Spring King's "City," a spin that even caught the group off-guard as Spring King quickly tweeted "are you kidding?!!?!? you just spun our tune! you're an absolute legend!!. Lowe also threw in several Apple Music exclusives including Pharrell's new "Freedom" Perhaps surprisingly, Taylor Swift didn't appear until nearly two hours later when Beats played her "Bad Blood" remix featuring Kendrick Lamar. And like a lot of new launches, Beats 1 experienced 5a 30 minute crash after host Jaden Smith requested Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

One question that many wondered has now been answered, Beats 1 is taking requests - If you want to hear a particular song, Beats has local phone numbers set up for users in the US, Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Dominican Republic, 4Australia, Ireland and the U.K. Requests will be played by host Travis Mills Los Angeles. He follows Ebro Darden who's on in the afternoon. Not sure how long it will take to hear a particular request, but listeners are apparently happy to wait. Positive feedback exploded on Twitter as the list of followers was growing by the thousands.

Radio Hosts Rates Big In Forbes' Highest Paid Celebrity List

THE MOUTH, JULY 1ST, 2015 –– With a closer look at yesterday's Popline link to Forbe's Top Celebrity Earners,' it appears some of radio's top host held their own with the likes of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake. 4Coming in at number 5 was SiriusXM's Howard Stern ($95m), followed by Rush Limbaugh at #11 ($79m). Slightly down at #21 is Ryan Seacrest ($60m) and further down the list, Sean Hannity at number 89.

And if you wonder why Glenn Beck isn't on this list, look again. Forbes says unlike other celeb's, Beck owns his own business; thus, pays himself a salary. They write that a conservative valuation of his company Mercury—based on publicly traded comparable companies—would be around $200 million, making Beck’s estimated two-thirds stake worth $120 million. At the mid-point of those figures, Beck would be worth $180 million. SEE ENTIRE LIST HERE

Beats 1 Radio Takes To The World Stage

THE MOUTH, JUNE 30TH, 2015 –– Today's the day for Trent Reznor's brainchild, the launch of Apple's much publicized and long awaited Beats 1 Radio. Much of the discussion and curiosity has centered around its three main hosts: Zane Lowe (L), formerly of BBC Radio 1 who will host from L.A., Hot 97's Ebro in New York, and Rinse FM DJ Julie Adenuga (R) in London. If Apple has their way, these three personalities will go on to become among the world's first globally famous radio hosts.

5According to theguardian.com, Zane Lowe will feature 'The World Record,' where he'll focus on one song a day and then host an interview-based show called 'Gratitude' where artists talk about other musicians who influenced them. Overnight, content will switch to artist-led shows, hour-long features such as Dr Dre’s The Pharmacy.

But, according to The Guardian, there remains a host of unanswered questions about Beats 1. 'Will it remain free and ad free forever, acting as a loss-leader for the company’s music service, or will adverts sneak in to the free version once the three-month trial ends? How much of the content will be pre-recorded versus live or as-live? How will Apple adapt the style of a geographically-centered radio station such as Radio 1 into a worldwide service? Will there be audience interaction, or will it be a strictly one-way affair?

The channel kick off with Lowe interviewing rapper Eminem at 12pm ET/9am PT. READ COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE
