THE MOUTH, JULY 14TH, 2017 –– Emmis Communications Corporation announced results for its first fiscal quarter ending May 31, 2017 and reported net revenues for the first fiscal quarter were $38.7 million, down from $42.7 million in the prior year. Excluding KPWR in Los Angeles, Emmis' radio revenues per Miller Kaplan 7(which excludes barter and syndication revenues as well as radio stations in Terre Haute, Indiana sold in the prior fiscal year), were down 6.7% in markets that were down 1.4%. During the quarter, Emmis entered into an agreement to sell KPWR-FM in Los Angeles to an affiliate of the Meruelo Group for $82.75 million. The Local Marketing Agreement (LMA) for the station began July 1, 2017 and initial FCC approval of the license transfer to the Meruelo Group has been received. CBS News Teams With BBC News To Bolster It's Global Reporting Resources

7

CBS News and BBC News announced today a new newsgathering partnership that should bolster the global reporting resources for both companies, reports TVNewser. This new partnership, effective immediately, allows both organizations to 7share video, editorial content and additional newsgathering resources in New York, London, DC, and across the globe.

CBS News president David Rhodes made the announcement in an internal memo to staff today: This morning, we are announcing an agreement with BBC News that will greatly enhance our global newsgathering capabilities and extend our editorial reach in new and 7exciting ways. The news is being announced on cbsnews.com, CBS This Morning, CBSN, and through press releases .. Beginning immediately we will coordinate resources and coverage strategy with BBC News. This takes the place of our longtime arrangement with Sky News who have been strong allies for many years, but the opportunity to partner with one of the world’s largest news organizations was too compelling not to make this change.

BBC Director of news and current affairs James Harding said in a separate statement. “This new partnership between the BBC and CBS News is designed to bring our audiences—wherever you live, whatever your point of view—news that is reliable, original and illuminating. Our ambition is to deliver the best in international reporting on television.” This move signals the end of the BBC’s current arrangement with ABC News, one which began all the way back in 1994.

[WATCH] Birth Of Sports Talk Radio The Subject Of '30 For 30' Documentary

7

THE MOUTH, JULY 13TH, 2017 –– Mike Francesa and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo shook up the sports talk radio airwaves with their “Mike and the Mad Dog” show on WFAN for nearly two decades writes CBS' Ryan Meyer. ESPN Films’ “30 for 30” series 7approached the duo about doing a documentary on their partnership and the show that launched sports talk radio as we know it today. Titled “Mike and the Mad Dog,” is slated to air at 8 p.m et, tonight on ESPN.

Francesa and Russo recently dropped by the CBS Local studios to discuss their partnership, the documentary and how it came about. Francesa began by saying that the partnership didn’t get off to the best start. “We 7had a tough beginning,” he said. “It was a shotgun marriage. We didn’t get along very well, and we were kind of thrown together. Although, I think the thing that changed everything was how quickly the ratings were off the charts. By spring, nine months into the show, we were No. 1 — and No. 1 in a big way — and we realized that no matter what we did, we weren’t going to get away from each other.” When it came to the documentary, the guys said that it was an honor to be asked by ESPN to do the film and the fact that they knew both of the producers attached to the project helped. To hear more of what the guys had to say, check out the video above. WATCH HERE

Australian Radio Station Wins Right To Claim Damages From Caller - A caller rang the 2HD in Newcastle and defamed a presenter on another station, who then sued for defamation and was paid $70,000 ($53,000US) by 2HD in an out of court settlement in 2010. 2HD now filed a cross-suit against the caller, Craig Stephens, claiming he was jointly responsible for defaming Kearney. The broadcaster said the case had cost it more than $106,000 ($81,000US) and wanted Stephens to pay part of the bill. Judge Davies of the NSW Supreme Court agreed with 2HD and, on 27 July 2012, gave judgment in the matter (Kearney v 2HD Broadcasters Pty Limited t/as 1143 2HD [2012] NSWSC 321 ), that Craig Stephens should pay 2HD $47,518.28 ($36,000US). Stephens has still not paid 2HD and now the station has signed over the unpaid debt to its lawyers Stacks Goudkamp to collect the money in lieu of some of 2HD’s legal fees. In a judgement last month, Judge Davies gave leave for Stacks Goudkamp to collect the money from Stephens. The case is interesting because it potentially changes the onus for defamation away from the responsibility of the publisher, on to the caller.

Jonny Gould Has Left TalkRadio In London Jonny has “left” the station less than a year and a half after it launched. He was on the weekday evening show when the talkRADIO brand returned as a national digital station in March 2016. He was the only presenter to have been on air on the launch day last year who was also on the original Talk Radio on its launch day in 1995. It’s understood the decision for him to leave was talkRADIO’s.
