REPORT: Nielsen Would Have Liked To Have Done More Real World Testing Of Voltair

THE MOUTH, JULY 24TH, 2015 –– Carl Bialik, head writer for fivethirtyeight.com, says after radio executives finally heard from 7Nielsen this week on Voltair, he reached out to Matt O’Grady, a Nielsen executive vice president and managing director who hosted the client presentation. O'Grady told Bialik, Nielsen would have liked to do more real-world testing of Voltair.

“The industry is clamoring for more information on this, but very few people cooperated on real-world tests,” O'Malley said (referring to radio executives who didn’t supply data). Bialik asked why Nielsen didn’t release all the test data to the public. “You have got to start with the clients,” O’Grady said. “They deserve to know. They’re paying the bills.”

O'Malley told Bialik that after Nielsen introduces its own new technology later this year, Voltair “will be redundant.” READ COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE

Meanwhile, over at Harker Research, Managing partner Glenda Shrader Bos weighed in on this week's Nielsen call. After hearing what was said, Bos commented, '..We are not lawyers, but it sure sounded like there are problems with the current system. Every station who has a Voltair box knows there are problems with PPM - not a surprise. But the admission is interesting. So the "first" story from Nielsen is that Voltair extends codes and gain – making them audible, but Nielsen is now going to increase the codes and gain, but keep the code inaudible. We need to "trust" that this will happen. We applaud Nielsen for telling us more than the old Arbitron Webinars; however according to our clients who watched the webinar, they saw a presentation that left them with more questions than answers." MOTION: Colin Cowherd Says Goodbye At ESPN; Gives Shout Out To Then ABC's John McConnell; Doug Steckler Exits Tim Conway Jr. Show

THE MOUTH, JULY 24TH, 2015 – On his way out the door at ESPN Radio, Colin Cowherd gave major props to the network he’s called home for the past ten years and also gave a shout-out to former ABC Radio Network exec John McConnell during the Wednesday edition of The Herd. Cowherd (right), who replaced Tony Kornheiser on ESPN Radio a decade ago, said he still marvels that out of all the big league hosts in Sports radio the network could have picked for the job, “They chose me — a guy from a small market — nobody had heard of me. A guy flew into Portland, we got a rare snowstorm, and he was stuck there for four days. John McConnell listened to me and he recommended me. And it’s been the best 10 years of my life.” Cowherd is reportedly headed to FOX Sports.

Doug Steckler said in a statement: "I am leaving The Tim Conway Jr. Show on KFI where I enjoyed sharing Friday evenings with the funniest, nicest guy in radio. We had more fun than should be legal. All good things must come to their finish and it's always better (if still difficult) to get out while you can still hear the laughter. Doug Steckler is a two-time Emmy Award winner and accomplished writer for television and film. He co-hosted the critically acclaimed and highly-rated Conway and Steckler show on KLSX from 1996-2005. Since 2011, Doug has co-hosted Friday evenings on the Tim Conway, Jr. program from 7-10PM on KFI radio in Los Angeles. Doug Steckler can be reached through Jason Insalaco, at Jason@KeltonAgency.com.
