The New York Times Examines How Howard Stern Became The Most "Deft Interviewer' In The Business

7

THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2016 –– In an prolonged piece from NY Time's David Segal, he examines the evolution of SiriusXM's Howard Stern drawing power for top celebrity interviews. Lewis Kay, who oversees media for Tracy Morgan, Amy Poehler and others, tells Segal, "Today, if you go on a TV talk show and give a great six or seven minutes, people will link to it, if it’s incredible,” said Kay, “But if you kill on Stern, it moves the needle.” Jeff Probst, host of “Survivor" added, "You start calculating how late you’ll be to the meeting based on where Howard is in his interview."

“He’s truth serum,” said comedian Amy Schumer, who has been on the show four times in the last five years. “It’s like you’re under contract to be totally honest in there,

Segal notes near the end of Stern's interview with Bill Murray, Howard Stern turned an already somber discussion about missed career opportunities into an existential grilling. “Is there something that you question in your own life,” Mr. Stern asked, “like why haven’t I found that great love of my life?” Mr. Murray audibly exhaled and let a pensive moment of silence pass. “Well, I think about that, I do think about that, that um, you know. I’m not sure what my — what I’m getting done here,” he said, sounding like a man questioning his ultimate purpose." Segal says, "As an irregular listener of “The Howard Stern Show,” I found this conversation, which took place in 2014, a bit startling. For years, Mr. Stern was known principally for pushing the limits of taste as the ringmaster of a raunchy circus of pranksters, oddballs and strippers. During his decades on terrestrial radio, his main passions seemed to be, in no particular order, boob jobs, prostitutes, lesbians and flatulence. Introspection and empathy were not fortes.

“He’s truth serum,” said comedian Amy Schumer, who has been on the show four times in the last five years. “It’s like you’re under contract to be totally honest in there, and even though it’s being broadcast, it feels super intimate and protected, even though you definitely aren’t.” READ COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE

NextRadio Study Proves How Radio Can Help Reach Voters; N/T Listeners Most Interested In Voting; Top 40 The Least

7

THE MOUTH, JULY 27TH, 2016 –– A recent NextRadio® in-app survey uncovered more than 1 in 3 surveyed do not plan to vote in November. In June and July, NextRadio listeners were asked whether they planned to vote in the upcoming election. One in four said they are “Undecided” about voting on 11.8.2016. The remaining 42% indicated “Yes” they do plan to vote. This figure compares unfavorably with the 2012 Presidential race in which 38%* of eligible voters did not vote.

7Radio clearly has an important role to play in reaching this sizable group of undecided voters and those showing a willingness to sit out this election cycle. Not surprisingly, News/Talk listeners expressed the highest intention to vote across station formats at almost 3 in 4 (74%). Still, there remains approximately 20% of News/Talk listeners who plan to sit out this election. Looking across station formats, Top 40 listeners were the least enthusiastic about voting, with nearly 70% stating “No” or “Undecided” on their voting plans. Country and Spanish Music format listeners fall right behind with their “No” and “Undecided” responses (66% and 63%, respectively). Additionally, 1 in 4 listeners of the following formats says he/she is “Undecided” about voting in November: • Rock (26%) • Country (25%) • Classic Rock (24%) • Hip Hop (24%) • Spanish Music (24%) • Top 40 (23%)

“It was a simple question that we asked,” said Paul Brenner, President, TagStation LLC, “but one with obvious opportunity for broadcasters nationwide. The survey highlights the large number (58%) of undecided voters where radio’s reach and frequency can make a huge difference for candidates “getting out the vote” and certainly makes the case for more campaign spending on radio. Dealing With In-Studio Flare-Ups? 'Make Sure To Take Your Ego Out Of The Conflict' Says Expert

THE MOUTH, JULY 26TH, 2016 –– As a nationally recognized authority on Mating Websites and Relationships, Matt Titus has been featured on numerous TV talk shows such ABC's Good Morning America, NBC's Today, Wendy Williams and others. Titus, who'll be making his first trip to this year's Morning Show Boot Camp, was recently asked by Jockline how he would apply his special skills to common issues often faced by top radio shows. For instance, the best approach to airing out what's bothering them after a flare-up with a fellow show member. Titus said, "Radio personalities can detect and call bull(s)hit very quickly.

"If there's something bothering you about what your partner said or did, let them know in a direct and respectful manner. Start out without any attitude, talking about the positives surrounding the particular incident and then, ask them why they did whatever they did that bothered you. As mentioned, show no emotion during the answer and then explain why it bothered you. Emotion and attitude are what make things so much worse. Make sure you take your ego out of this conflict. If you do this, I am sure the problem will be rectified."

In addition to TV, Titus has been busy calling in to numerous morning shows recently like: Mojo in The Morning in Detroit/Channel 955 Detroit, Paul and Young Ron in Miami/Big 105.9/Miami , The Frank Show /KLPX-FM Tucson and others. If you'd like Matt to join you as a guest, contact
