BBC Host Suspended After Breastfeeding Remarks

7THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2015 –– BBC Radio Solent host Alex Dyke has been suspended after he said that "librarian-type moustached" women should not breastfeed in public. This led to more than 6,000 people signing a petition calling for him to be taken off the air after he said that it was "unnatural" and a throwback to the Stone Age during his show on Wednesday. A BBC spokeswoman said: "Following unacceptable comments made on air yesterday, Alex Dyke has been suspended pending an investigation, so he will not be on air tomorrow."

Among his comments included: "It is 2015. Ladies, mums, we don't like breastfeeding in public, honestly we don't. I experienced this yesterday. I was on a bus and there was a lady on this bus. She was quite a big girl and she had a toddler with her. She starts to breastfeed her baby on the bus. I didn't know where to look ... Breastfeeding is unnatural ... It was OK in the Stone Age when we knew no better and people didn't even have their own teeth.' Dyke also said: "Making love is the most natural thing in the world but you wouldn't do it on the number 15.

One woman posted on Twitter: "Another moron with misogynistic views about breastfeeding on the radio. Get rid of this idiot!" The show is currently unavailable on the BBC iPlayer radio website. READ MORE HERE

[WATCH] WCSX Detroit Rev's Up Charity With Corvette Raffle

7

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2015 –– There are lots of creative ways radio drives money to charity, but this one brings a whole new meaning to the ride. 94.7 WCSX/Detroit's Big Jim O'Brien (inset), with the help of a generous woman in upstate Michigan, was able to reassemble a rare 1971 Corvette Stingray that they'll be raffling off for charity. After sitting in storage for 12 years, O'Brien tells WXYZ TV, a lady donated the car, but it needed a new chassis and engine. Well, being in the motor city it didn't take too long for a number of volunteers to reassemble the auto, complete with a super high-powered Maclaren engine.

For the ninth year in a row, they'll be raffling off the car as part of its Stone Soup project. The project is based on the old fable where everyone throws something into a pot to make a great meal, according to the radio station. This year, proceeds from the raffle will go to Holy Cross Children's Services, which helps children and families in Michigan who are abused, neglected, abandoned or suffer from substance abuse. Friends & Family Gather At Memorial Service For Orlando's Scott McKensie

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2015 –– Following this week's news of longtime Orlando host Scott McKenzie's passing, he was remembered yesterday (8.13) during a memorial at Congregation Ohev Shalom synagogue in Maitland, FL. McKenzie died Tuesday at age 59 after a seven-year battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It was just last Friday, McKenzie announced he was going into hospice

According to mynews13, McKenzie is survived by his wife, Fran, and daughter, Lauren. The family has asked people to consider donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Children's Miracle Network, and the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.

Among those remembering McKenzie this week is his former on-air partner Big Jim O'Brien (also shown above), now with WXYZ/Detroit. He told Jockline: 'Scott McKenzie was (I hate saying "was" next to his name) the best person I've ever known in radio. My four years with Scott & Erica were pure joy, we laughed every morning - treated each other with respect and did it the right way. Scott didn't mind giving someone else the spotlight (even if he had a better punchline...which he always did). Scott McKenzie was my friend, my mentor and an example of how radio should be done. I loved him. We all did. The world got a little darker on Tuesday..."
