Formerly Missing Host Now Accused Of (S)ex Offenses

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2014 –– Christopher Elwick, also known as Shecky of Winnipeg's Energy 106, vanished briefly last week, but now he's facing Internet luring and child pornography charges following an investigation. The Winnipeg Free Press says the host is accused of sexual assault and (s)exual interference on a minor for alleged incidents between January 2009 and December 2010. Court records show the alleged victim is a boy whose age isn't disclosed. Elwick is also charged with possession of child pornography, however, none of the allegations has been proven and he is presumed innocent. Elwick was released on strict bail conditions Monday, which include having no contact with anyone under the age of 16. Elwick, who had been working for Energy 106 as an on-air personality, was first contacted by police Sept. 19 regarding the ongoing (s)ex-assault investigation. Elwick promised to meet with investigators in the days ahead. No charges had been filed but Sept. 24, the police missing persons unit received a call from concerned family members who hadn't heard from Elwick for more than 24 hours. They expressed concern to police he was suicidal. Several colleagues who work in local radio also took to social media seeking help in finding him. Some of Elwick's former colleagues expressed frustration on social media Monday police hadn't provided the whole story in making the initial public plea for help. Elwick was located on Saturday. Sources told the Free Press he had suffered an injury, apparently by his own hand. He was taken to hospital for treatment. Elwick has since been fired from his latest job at Energy 106, where he had worked for about three weeks.

STUDY: Few 13-20 Yr. Olds Choose FM As Number One Music Source

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2014 –– Researcher Mark Kassoff said that he couldn't recall the last time he had conducted a survey that included under-18’s… "It’s clear that radio stations don’t care about teens. And for too many younger listeners, the feeling is mutual…" In an online survey of 506 online 13-20-year-olds, he determined that only 7% name FM radio as the device they listen to most for music! That puts it well behind smartphones, iPods and even PCs: When asked, which ONE device do you use MOST to listen to music? . CELLPHONE/SMARTPHONE 41% - IPOD/MP3 PLAYER 25% - COMPUTER/PC 16% - FM RADIO 7% - IPAD/TABLET 5% - CD PLAYER 3% - SATELLITE RADIO 1% - None 1% - Don’t know 1%. Kassof says FM is more of a secondary music source, but even then, it’s the second secondary source. Today he plans to get into 13-20-year-olds’ attitudes about FM radio. SEE COMPLETE RESULTS HERE

[WATCH] Kansas Woman Awarded $1Million In Suit Against Station

Hosts Open Up About Mistake - Say They Are Forever Changed

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2014 –– A jury has awarded a woman a total of $1 million after morning hosts on 96.5 The Buzz/Kansas City identified her as a "(p)orn star" on the air and online in 2012. According to KSHB TV, Ashley Patton, of Olathe, Kansas, sued Entercom Kansas City, the owners of 96.5 The Buzz, home of hosts "Afentra's Big Fat Morning Buzz (below)," for false light invasion of privacy and negligent supervision. Patton received $250,000 for actual damages and $750,000 in punitive damages. During jury deliberations, attorneys for both sides agreed to a high-low settlement, which means Entercom will not appeal the verdict and pay the award in 45 days. Patton said she was surprised and encouraged by the verdict. She told KSHB TV: "I was hoping for their verdict," she told KSHB TV: "I am surprised by the amount. It will make stations think twice about what they put on the air." As Jockline reported in its 7lead story on Friday, Patton had sued over an April 2012 broadcast in which hosts Afentra (Bandokoudis) and Danny Boi (Daniel Terreros) asked listeners to send in the names of local residents who "were said to be local (p)orn stars," according to the lawsuit. Two listeners texted Patton's name, the lawsuit claimed, and during a Google search, Danny Boi found an adult film actress with a similar, but distinctly different name. The hosts announced Patton's name and high school, as well as placed it online and kept a podcast of the show online until Patton complained, according to court documents. Fritz Riesmeyer, attorney for Entercom, said that although false and highly offensive, identifying Patton as a porn star was a mistake and not done with malice, as the law required for her to collect damages.“While we are very disappointed in the outcome, we will abide by the jury's verdict,” Entercom spokesman Kevin Geary said Friday. Afentra And Danny Boi were back on the air this morning following last Friday's blockbuster $1 million settlement. Following the verdict, they sat down with KSHB TV's Lisa Benson with Afentra telling her they are 'Forever changed' by the settlement. "We're moving forward and very grateful to still be here; to still be on the air.' WATCH HERE 'PHOTOS/screengrab 2

Steve Cochran Fires Back At Steve Dahl Over WGN Rant

'So we’ll keep winning and you keep whining. But definitely keep analyzing photos like you did about the Pat Hughes picture. Radio Photo Analysis . . . good bit.' - Cochran

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 29TH, 2014 –– Last Friday media blogger Robert Feder reported on a Steve Dahl's podcast where he went off on WGN Chicago calling it the worst radio station ever. "It’s as bad as it was when I got to town in 1978, only it’s people my age and younger doing it — committing these heinous broadcasting crimes.” What apparently fueled the comments was a photograph posted on Marianne Murciano's (WGN's Bob & Marianne Show) Facebook page of WGN staffers posing at a dedication of Cubs broadcaster Pat 7Hughes (R). Kneeling in front is Jimmy deCastro and Todd Manley, VP/content & programming. Regarding de Castro's pose, Dahl said: 'That guy’s such a *ucking glory hog.” This was just one of several other shots aimed at the venerable talk outlet. Taking exception to Dahl's rant, WGN morning host Steve Cochran (L) fired back with a letter to Feder: '..We both know your goal here is to use us to get someone to subscribe to your “show.” Can’t help you there ... Why so bitter, Steve? You had a nice run. Enjoy your golden years ... Maybe break out some old tapes and listen when Bill and Wendy (WGN's afternoon show) were on your show. You were occasionally funny then. Or listen to how you sounded when you worked for deCastro because you certainly must know he didn’t need you . . . you needed him ... So we’ll keep winning and you keep whining. But definitely keep analyzing photos like you did about the Pat Hughes picture. Radio Photo Analysis . . . good bit." READ ENTIRE PIECE HERE

7[LISTEN] Slacker Calls Into Show With Update After Blacking Out On Air

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 29TH, 2014 –– As Jockline was first to report last Friday, Slacker, half of KALC/Denver's popular "Slacker and Steve afternoon show," fell unconscious during a live broadcast during their show on Thursday. According to KUSA TV, listeners heard a loud "thump" and then music began playing. His co-host went on the air later and confirmed that Slacker did lose consciousness during the broadcast. He was taken to the hospital for some tests and was then resting. Later on Friday, Slacker was able to call into their show and joked that Steve's drive to the airport 'way more scary' than his collapse. Steve commented that when Slacker fell unconscious, 'He banged his head pretty hard.' As for Slacker's recollection, he remembered taking a phone call and the next thing he knew Steve was standing over him holding his head and then asking himself 'how did I get here?' Steve quipped, "Don't act like that's never happened before.' Slacker reported that he had gone through a number of tests to determine what exactly happened. He then said he was headed back later on Friday for more tests. After thanking Steve and show member Lil' D for their help, Slacker said he woke up with over 3,000 texts on his phone. LISTEN HERE

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 298TH, 2014 –– WNIC/Detroit morning host, Jay Towers, who in addition to his radio show also somehow manages to air on Fox 2 TV News in the morning slot as well. Perhaps some of Tower's radio instincts kicked in on a recent show as TV co-host Anqunette Jamison (shown) and Jay Towers were bantering about flowers. Jamison spoke of her love of peonies. Towers thought she said “panties.” Needless to say, the floor crew, as well as Jamison, had trouble containing their laughter.
