16-Year Old Daughter Of Texas Host Found Safe; 29-Year Old Man Arrested For Unlawful Restraint

7

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 –– The 16-year old daughter of syndicated host Joe 'Pags' Pagliarulo was found safe, some 1,200 miles away near Mexican border three days after being reported missing. This followed Pag's public plea on Friday night f7or help in finding her. Gabrielle 'Gabby' Pagliarulo, of Spring Branch, Texas (a suburb of Houston) was found near San Diego, California on Saturday with Christopher Lee Fretwell (R), 29, who was arrested for unlawful restraint, according to The Daily Mail. Pags took to the airwaves over the weekend saying “I am still sleepy. It’s been a very long night, but my daughter Gabby has been found. She is safe.” He added that his family was arranging travel to pick her up

Fretwell was arrested for unlawful restraint because he took a child out of the state without her parent's permission. Gabby was reported missing last Wednesday and was last seen with Fretwell in a 2011 Toyota Camry on Arizona's Interstate 40, police said. On Friday, Joe, who is broadcast on WOAI in San Antonio and KPRC in Houston, shared his worries on air, asking for people to keep their eyes peeled. He also wrote a post on Facebook that read: 'WE NEED her home. Gabby, we love you and miss you so much baby. Come home now.' With the help of social media, friends, fans and international outlets such as The Daily Mail, Pags thanked 'Millions of you made phone calls and researched [Fretwell] on social media and called his friends, or former friends, or anyone who had ever known him. 'I think social media is a scary place sometimes, but I truly believe because of this resource, we will be able to have our daughter back.' PHOTOS/Facebook

Legendary Houston Host Jim Pruett Of Stevens & Pruett Show Passes Away At 72

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 –– Just weeks before the scheduled reunion of KLOL Programming, Promotions and Sales Staff on October 1st, we were saddened to learn of the death of Jim Pruett, the comic genius and half of the legendary 101 KLOL Stevens and Pruett morning team who died Friday, Sept 2, 2016 of heart failure. He was 72. Pruett, with his longtime broadcasting partner, Mark Stevens, helped define morning radio in their decades together. In interviews with Houston media blogger Mike McGuff, Pruett said, "In the early 70s, KLOL founding program director Pat Fant hired Pruett to work mornings on the newly signed on 101 7KLOL.

In the early 80s, as an intense radio war waged between ABC’s 97 Rock KSRR and KLOL, GM Patrick Fant made the move to bring Mark Stevens and Pruett back to Houston. KLOL Promotions and Marketing Director Doug Harris tells Jockline, “Jim Pruett made my promotions job a breeze. Playfully creative, quick with quip or a comeback, and great with listeners. A good man, a brilliant talent, a devoted husband/father/grandfather, a warrior, a patriot, and loyal friend to man and beast. He actually was the guy his dog thought he was. We should all be so lucky”.

A public memorial for Jim Pruett is planned for Saturday, October 1st in Houston. It will coincide with a previously scheduled KLOL Reunion for the station’s staff, personalities, management and sales force. A GoFundMe campaign, expected to be finalized this week, will allow those who wish to do so contribute to The Stevens and Pruett Humane Ranch which connects “damaged” kids with “damaged” animals for the benefit of both. Pruett is survived by his wife Joy, his three sons Sam, Zac and Eric, daughter in law Kristina, and grandchildren Samantha, Piper and Zane. Co-Host Mark Stevens passed away in 2010.

'You Can't Possibly, Correctly Predict What's Going To Be The Next Big Thing Two Years From Now,' Says iHeart's Darren Davis

7

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 –– iHeartMedia has found growth both inside and outside of terrestrial radio, reports Adweek, but Darren Davis, president of iHeartMedia Networks and iHeartRadio warns, "You can't possibly correctly predict what's going to be the next big thing two years from now." Davis says their strategy has been, "don't guess, just go everywhere. … It's all about ubiquity for our broadcast brands. We want to make it as easy as possible to take away all the possible friction for people who want to access those brands."

Although other radio companies are "putting their tentacles" into various platforms, none of them have expanded into new areas as significantly as iHeartMedia has, said Mark Ramsey, president of consultancy Mark Ramsey Media. "They see that the world is bigger than radio, even if the radio is the biggest part of the world of audio," Ramsey said. "They're putting the pieces in place to try to be where the audience is, wherever it is.

Davis emphasized that he doesn't foresee a significant change in the company's business model in the near future. iHeart will continue to focus primarily on broadcast radio because the "lion's share" (two-thirds to three-fourths, depending on the season) of iHeartRadio usage remains people listening to live radio. Millenials Shifting From Blogs To Podcasts

7

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2016 –– If you're still on the fence regarding podcasting, Molly Folse's article in this week's Ad Week may serve as yet another glimpse of the platform's growing viability. Folse explains how recent college grads are moving from blogs to podcast and says the timing couldn't be better for them to get in on the podcast craze. She points out that twenty-one percent of Americans age 12 or older say they have listened to a podcast in the past month. That's a 17% increase in the last year and a 75% increase since 2013.

7"We've just seen phenomenal growth in podcasting," says Cristen Conger, host of the podcast Stuff Mom Never Told You. Conger and co-host Caroline Ervin have produced 800 episodes, and the show receives more than 1 million downloads per month. Conger says downloads have tripled since 2014. "Especially in the past year, we've recognized the mass potential of podcasts—there's high mobility, high engagement," Conger says. Podcasts pair well with shorter attention spans, allowing listeners to do other things while consuming content.

Podcasts also provide safe spaces for listeners to be alone with the content, says Folse, and points to Katie Roach (L), who started her Drunk (S)ex podcast a few years after graduating college. "As much as I deeply love writing, I felt like podcasting would bring out a certain charisma I could never achieve on paper," says Roach. Sam Solomon, host of the Designer News podcast DN FM, says "podcasts are a new distribution channel. It gives people a new way to discover who you are." Hosts Cristen Corgen of 7Stuff Mom Never Told You, predicts that once discovering and sharing becomes easier, the floodgates will be open for podcasts to truly take off. "Young people are realizing that podcasts are part of building a personal brand," she says. "We regularly hear from students asking how they can do this. We are role modeling a brand new profession for people who are in college now and that is really amazing to be part of." READ COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE
