Save Those Tapes: Anchorage's Bob Lester of KWHL's Bob & Mark Show are all grins following their former interview with Republican VP Nominee Sarah Palin when she slightly laughed on air as Bob Lester described one of her opponents as a “cancer” and a “bitch”. This, in light of the fact that her opponent, Lyda Green, was a cancer survivor. Since hitting YouTube, a quarter of a million hits were recorded as of yesterday morning. Gimme Five! Adding to 13 years already at KAMX (Mix 94.7)/Austin, morning duo JB Hager and Sandy Rivers (shown left Sandy and JB) have re-up'd for another 5 years. The Texas staple first met at Morning Show Boot Camp in New Orleans 13 years ago and have been a team ever sense. JB tells the Mouth, in addition to meeting there, he and Sandy moderated the first ever "Battle of The Bits."

Big Shakeup In Wakeups at Hot 107.9 Atlanta? Still trying to confirm details, but Radio One/Atlanta's WHTA-FM (Hot 107.9) A-Team morning hosts Griff (shown left) and Akini, along with reportedly 18 other staffers, are out at the hip-hop outlet. Rashaun Ali from the A-Team is apparently moving to middays. Emperor Searcy returns to PMD, replacing E4Real, Syndicated Ric Smiley is said to be taking over mornings. Ratings apparently weren't the problem, as the A-Team regularly placed in the top-3. Stay tuned for more details.

And To Present the Award For.... Presenters of this year's Marconi Award's have been announced. They include FOM, Lincoln Financial's honcho Don Benson, Entercom's David Field Val Maki of Emmis, Ginny Morris of Hubbard, Kevin Perry of Perry Publishing, Heidi Raphael of Greater Media and Cromwell's Bud Walters. Westwood syndicated host Billy Bush will emcee. The NAB Radio Show runs September 17-19 in Austin.

And Now You Know.... Radio mega icon Paul Harvey will turn 90 on Sept 4th. Given the holiday weekend, we thought you'd like a head's up. His first nationally broadcast show began in 1951.

Long-Time Birmingham Host Patti Wheeler Set to Retire: Listeners of 102.5 The Bull's Patti & Dollar Bill Show in Birmingham have been waking up with Patti Wheeler for over 29 years, but after November she'll be headed to her beach home in Panama City, FL where she plans to retire. Following the death of Doc, her original partner in the late 90's, she was joined by "Dollar" Bill Lawson. A nationwide search now begins for her replacement.

8.27.08 MOVERS/WAKERS: Former Atlanta personality Wylie Rose head a few miles up the road to WKDF/Nashville where she'll join David Reed in mornings.

Charges Now Filed In Bus Prank: As reported earlier today, 96.1 The Beat/Charlotte's morning stunt guy Cubby faced possible criminal charges for boarding a school bus and putting both the driver and passengers on-the-air, live. Late this afternoon(Tuesday) comes word that school officials have gone ahead and pressed charges against Jase Edward Squires (aka Cubby) for causing a disturbance on a school bus. He has since been released on $1,000 bond. A.M. Mayhem host Brotha Fred told the Charlotte Observer "We try to entertain in a way that some people will think was funny and some won't. But we had no malicious intent." It's also being reported that the bus driver has since been suspended without pay. Boise Morning Show Provides Shelter & Clothing For 20 Families: On Monday night a devastating wild fire completely destroyed 10 families homes and severely damaged 10 others in Boise Idaho. On Tuesday morning KZMG's Dan Tooker In The Morning opened up the phones to help get the victims of the wild fire clothed and back on their feet. Not only did they get all of the families clothed, but they also set each family up in a hotel through the labor day weekend as well as providing free transportation for those who lost vehicles in the fire. In addition to listeners and business donating their money and services Tooker took a call on the air from Spanish Radio's KWEI (Independently owned) morning show who had been listening and offered up their airwaves to allow the Hispanic population to help in the cause. On Thursday Dan Tooker will team up with 12 Treasure Valley restaurants who are going to donate 10% of their profits to The Boise Firefighters Burnout Fund.

School Bus Prank Could Result In Criminal Charges: As kids returned to school in Charlotte this week, one of those boarding a bus was 26 yr old Cubby of 96.1 The Beat's A.M. Mayhem. Once aboard he began conversing with students live on the air. School officials weren't amused. Cubby (aka Jase Edward Squires) shown right, is now under investigation by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools law enforcement. 9 Year Sentence Recommended For Former Talker: Prosecutors are calling for a 9 year prison sentence for Bernie Ward, the former KGO talk show host convicted of distributing child pornography. He first claimed he was doing research for a book, but later pleaded guilty. Ward is currently out on bail, but is confined to his San Francisco home, with electronic monitoring. Read More

Johnjay & Rich host 5th Annual 93.7 KRQ Cares For Kids Radiothon It started out of a desire to give back to the community that has so strongly supported 93.7 KRQ. In 2003, Arizona’s Morning Show Johnjay and Rich created the 93.7 KRQ Cares For Kids Radiothon…a multi-day broadcast whose goal was to raise much needed monies for the Tucson Medical Center and the children and families that it serves. Pay For Play: Done the right way. Magic 93.1/Boise's Dan Tooker in the Morning Show was on the air for 12 hours on Friday for "Play Anything Day." Listeners called in with their requests no matter how obscure. Everything was played from Hatebreed to Donny Osmond to Keith Urban to Judy Garland and everything in between, including local artists. The event raised $20,000 for Project Play, a local charity that builds playgrounds for physically disabled children. Travis from We The Kings was in town for the Warped tour, and even stopped by to get "Check Yes Juliet" on the air. In addition, an 8 year old's parents won her an interview with Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. The crew from Dan Tooker in the Morning will be on hand to dedicate the park on September 27th. Elvis & Seacrest Invade Cleveland: WAKS/Kiss 96.5 Cleveland adds recently syndicated's Elvis Duran for wakeups and beginning at noon, he'll be followed by---surprisssssssse---Ryan Seacrest. Fortunately, no one local was displaced, as mornings had recently been held down by LA's Valentine.

Spiff Returns to Atlanta Airwaves: Spiff Carner, one half of longtime Atlanta morning team Randy & Spiff, returns to True Oldies 106.7 where he'll join Freddie Brooks in afternoons. Asked by the The Atlanta Journal Constitution how they found him, he said "“They finally spotted me at the end of Barrett Parkway with my ‘Will tell jokes for food’ sign.” Randy and Spiff teamed for over ten year at Fox-FM, Then Lite-FM and last worked together at WGST-AM where Randy (Cook) remains. Breasts Gone Wild: Wild 94.9/San Francisco dumps PD “Jazzy” Jim Archer and nightimer Joe Breezy following an April Fool’s bit that offered “free breasts” from “Dr. Sanders.” Well, everyone got a big laugh when they found out they were actually chicken breasts from KFC... Everyone except the winner. Althought lots of other prizes were included, the listener filed a lawsuit against the station. (no word on whether the winner returned the other gifts or ate the chicken)

Jackson Gets A Woody: Kinda, anyway (we couldn't pass up this set up), Rock 93.5 Jackson, MS drops syndicated Lex & Terry and goes local with a new show called Morning Wood, featuring PD Brad Stevens, middayer Mandy Scott and Beaver.

Bob & Tom Re-Up $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ With Premiere: Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold, the creators and hosts of one of the longest running and highest rated morning shows in America, The Bob & Tom Show, renewed their long-term contract with Premiere Radio Networks. Continuing syndication of The Bob & Tom Show on more than 150 radio stations nationwide from 6-10 a.m. ET, the deal also includes distribution of the recently created Bob & Tom All-Nighter, a program created specifically for radio stations wishing to bring listeners comedy in evenings and overnights.

A Face For Radio? Kearth LA's Gary Bryan and Ed Mann have formed a company that will involve morning shows for TV projects. Bryan, who will be at MSBC in LA this weekend told us he wants to give some of radio's top talent a chance at national exposure.
