No Plans To Abandon Analog In The U.S. Says NAB's Dennis Wharton
Digital FM Radio IS CONTINUING In Norway. All That Is Ending Is Analog Radio
THE MOUTH, APRIL 21ST, 2015 –– News that Norway looked to turn off analog FM by 2017 has generated quite a buzz in media circles this week. And while the growth of digital is obvious, it's somewhat of a stretch to tie the U.S. timeline for abandoning analog to Norway's. Dennis Wharton, EVP/National Association of Broadcasters, wrote in an email, “Our guess is that Norway’s decision ultimately will have no impact on the way U.S. radio broadcasters operate, or on how the more than 240 million weekly U.S. local radio listeners receive programming. There are 3 big differences between Norway and the U.S.: -- Norway and the U.S. deliver digital radio signals differently. Notably, many U.S. radio broadcasters have been operating in digital for about 10 years -- Norway has only 5 million people, compared to 320 million or so in the U.S. (in fact, there are more people living in just the Washington DC/Baltimore metro region in the U.S. -- 5.8 million people – than all of Norway). -- Norway’s broadcast system is primarily government run; the U.S. system of broadcasting is mostly privately run, sustained by commercial advertisements -- The important thing to remember, however is that digital FM radio IS CONTINUING in Norway. All that is ending is analog radio.
According to bloomberg.com, in the U.S., the FCC is approving far fewer new commercial radio licenses than in prior years. Between 2000 and 2004, the agency approved 483 new commercial AM/FM licenses, but that number dropped to 262 between 2005 and 2009, and only 90 between 2010 and 2014. Meanwhile, smartphones aren’t helping. While most new phones contain chips that let them access traditional radio broadcasts, most U.S. wireless carriers don’t turn that capability on, preferring that consumers stream their radio instead. Wharton added, “In Europe and Asia it’s a standard feature to have people listen to FM radio on their cell phones.” The NAB is advocating for the feature to be turned on. 1

I was only 21 when I got this job, that's half my life ago. Before the Eagle, I'd spent almost a year over at what was then 94.5 The Edge. I was hired my Duane Doherty (Bones!) to do overnights, and was beyond ecstatic. I was going to get to play 'kick-(s)ss-rock-music' for one of the baddest cities in America AND they were going to pay me. Back during that time I did a request hour from 3am-4 am called the "Red Eye Request Hour" and since I knew my bosses were all asleep at that time, it was wheels off! ... Over the past "almost" 21 years I've had the opportunity to do things and meet people that most people only dream of. I've truly led a charmed rock n roll life and I owe it all to YOU the listeners, and fans, and family, of 97-1 The Eagle. This coming Friday April 24th will be my last radio show here on the Eagle. I'll be sad to leave, but it's time. I'll still be around though. Maybe we'll run into each other at the bar someday and I'll buy you a beer and we can reminisce about the good ole days! - Scroll down to graphic shown and LISTEN HERE

Anthony Cumia Blocked By SiriusXM From Guest Appearance On His Former Show
THE MOUTH, APRIL 20TH, 2015 –– No doubt you're aware of the feud going on between longtime co-hosts Opie And Anthony. Last Friday may have added more fuel to the flame. Comedians Joe Rogan and Ari Shaffir were filling in for Greg 'Opie' Hughes and Jim Norton and invited the former 20-year employee on the show for a guest appearance. This would have marked Cumia's first visit back at SiriusXM in 10 months after being fired over controversial tweets. According to newsweek.com, though things hadn't changed between the duo, Hughes was adamant that Cumia should be let into the building for his guest appearance with Rogan. Hughes placed several phone calls to management, urging them to let his former co-host into the studio. “sRogan brilliantly tried to have Anthony on the show today while he was guest-hosting for me,” Hughes told Newsweek following the incident. “Management had no idea this was going down. I told them I was cool with it. In the end, they were taken by surprise and ended up having cold feet. I get the impression that they would be all right with him coming back as a guest in the near future under more ideal circumstances.”
According to Newsweek, Cumia arrived at the building around 7 a.m. and waited in the lobby “for quite some time” before being denied entry. The SiriusXM building has a security team in the lobby with a system in which names are entered, allowing admission. Names are generally added to such systems in advance of a guest appearance. Asked if security was notified of Cumia’s appearance in advance, Hughes said, “All of Sirius was taken by surprise, so I doubt it.” Shaffir took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with Friday’s events. “Really disappointed in SiriusXM Comedy. Not letting Anthony Cumia on our show? The guy was an employee for over a decade. He got fired for stuff he did off the premises. And you block him in the lobby? Be a human.” SiriusXM did not comment on whether Cumia is permanently banned from the building.

ReelWorld Introduces 'First-Ever' Jingle Package For 94.9 The Bull Atlanta
THE MOUTH, APRIL 17TH, 2015 –– ReelWorld has introduced a new jingle package for 94.9 The Bull Atlanta. ReelWorld’s Creative Director, Erik Huber (shown), explains his vision for this next-generation package: “For the Bull package we asked ourselves how are we going to come up with the sound of the brand that will meld with this raw, real and organic format. We opted for organic instrumentals, stripped-down production, and mixes that are wide open with just a couple instruments so you really can hear the personality of the singer coming through. What resulted is a comprehensive jingle package for The Bull that sounds like what’s currently on the radio. There’s certainly nothing else like it on air today."
Equally excited is Brian Michel, iHeartMedia Atlanta’s Senior Vice President of Programming: “We’ve never had jingles on the Bull before so we knew we needed something that was not just modern to fit the Bull sound; but something that was also remarkable and lived up to the Bull brand. That’s where the team from ReelWorld comes in. The guys at ReelWorld just get it . . . from jingles to Production Vault, they provide tools that allow us to create Bull’s signature sound and just sound f%&%# awesome.”. The 94.9 The Bull package can now be previewed at www.reelworld.com/jingles and is available for syndication to stations across the country for barter or cash.

Huckabee Giving Up Radio Show As He Mulls Run For Presidency
THE MOUTH, APRIL 16TH, 2015 ––Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who is mulling a bid for next year's presidential race, announced Wednesday that his nationally syndicated radio commentary will no longer be broadcast starting May 1. Huckabee said he'll continue to offer the material online, making it available to paying subscribers. According to arkansasonline, Huckabee hinted at his future plans during a radio segment on yesterday's broadcast. Huckabee has provided his commentary segments three times a day for 6½ years, taking over after the death of longtime radio host Paul Harvey in 2009. "I've had biting and tough commentary about some of the more absurd ways in which Washington defied common sense and busted our family budgets as well as in which their naive and so called smart diplomacy caused us to lose our friends' trust and gain nothing but the ridicule of our enemies," he said. "But, as I move closer to the decision to do more than talk about these concerns and do something about them, I will bring the broadcast version to a close." In an email to more than 500 stations that carry the segments, WYM Media Management Managing Partner Debbie Greenbaum confirmed the end date. "The governor is deeply grateful for your support and partnership in airing The Mike Huckabee Report all these years. But, as you are aware, he is in the midst of making some major go-forward decisions," she wrote. The Huckabee Report will be replaced starting May 4 by Gallagher Online, hosted by frequent Fox News Channel contributor Mike Gallagher, Greenbaum said. WYM Media Management has offered Huckabee's commentary since he left Cumulus Media in January.
LARRY JOHNSON: The “Steroids Era” In Radio Is Here
THE MOUTH, APRIL 16TH, 2015 –– Imagine a playing field where a few of the players could tilt the field to their advantage. It’s a common scenario in sports, where some play by the rules and others take steroids for a hidden gain. Paragon Media Strategies' Larry Johnson writes in his blog: You’d think that the creator of the field would quickly seek to rectify the situation for a fair game, as pro sports leagues attempt to do. The “Voltair” black box processor system purports to give radio stations an advantage in the Portable People Meter (PPM) game, but Nielsen, the creator and referee of the game, has been relatively mum. The Voltair black box processor is a “PPM booster” that claims to push the encoded signal stronger into the meters, thus increasing a station’s ratings. We’ve heard rumors of this device since last year, but Voltair publicly rolled out their system at this month’s NAB convention in Las Vegas. I contacted Nielsen in January asking about this device and received a “no comment.” The history of radio ratings is littered with bogus methods to goose stations’ ratings. Until there are scientific tests to either debunk or substantiate the effectiveness of the Voltair black box processor, we can’t be certain of its effectiveness. Here’s where the game’s creator and referee needs to step in. For the sake of its clients, Nielsen needs to take immediate action to assure that its many subscribers are competing on a level playing field. With high stakes advertising dollars at stake, some broadcasters believe they’ve found a way to goose the Portable People Meter (PPM) game. Nielsen also needs to step in for the sake of radio in general. With the decades-long, slow-but-steady decrease in radio Time Spent Listening and Persons Using Radio, any improvement in measuring true radio listening levels should be embraced rather than ignored. If a PPM booster is good for the goose, then it’s good for the gander.

For Jimmy Alexander, it was being in the right place at the right time. He tells Jockline, while attending the Country Radio Seminar back in Feb he was talking to his friend Tim Leary. Tim was one week away from hosting United Stations’ new country countdown show “The 20Twenty Country Countdown". As Tim and I were watching Keith Urban and Eric Church perform at the Ryman, he looks over and said “you should be the writer for the countdown show”-I said “no I can’t spell”…. Tim said “You do know they have something called spellcheck now?” I talked to Untied Stations’ Andy Denemark in the lobby at the Ryman and became the writer. The 20Twenty Country Countdown is the first countdown show for the next decade, because it has two charts, the top 20 trending songs in country music and the top 20 songs on country music radio.

Aussie Host And Justin Bieber In Dust-Up At Coachella? - It hasn't been too good of a week for uber pop star Justin Beiber. First, he gets tossed by security guards while in a choke-hold after attempting to enter a Drake performance at Coachella. Now, according to Australian radio host Ryan "Fitzy" Fitzgerald, co-host of Nova 969's Fitzy And Wippa Show, he claims Bieber's own security guards threw him into a fence at Coachella after bumping into the demure star. According to thedailymail, Fitzy was invited to watch AC/DC backstage by singer-songwriter Vance Joy. Fitzy told his Nova colleague Tim Blackwell, he was walking his head down and "on the phone, and didn't notice Bieber, who was wearing a fedora hat, until he was basically upon him. "I had a few beers, I'm on phone and I look up and right in front, was this little dweeb...as I look-up, Justin Bieber is right in front of my face," Fitzy said. "He put his hand out and like pushed me to the side, and I'm like you're kidding yourself mate, I'm twice the size of you (Fistzy is 6'6"). "I sort of stood up and leaned in to him, this huge guy has just grabbed me up by the back pack and just thrown me into the fence on the side."

'Nothing Duplicates What Radio Can Deliver When It’s Live And Local,' Says Departing CBS Radio Head Dan Mason
Switching WCBS-FM From The “Jack” Format To “Classic Hits” Was “A 400-Foot Home Run.”
MOUTH, APRIL 15TH, 2015 –– Retiring CBS Radio president and CEO Dan Mason tells NY Daily's David Hinckley that if radio keeps its ear to the ground, it will stay vital. “Nothing duplicates what radio can deliver when it’s live and local.” says Mason. “It’s the hub of the wheel. The spokes fan out from there.” Following his announced retirement on Monday from the post he's held since 2007 (and formerly from 1995 until 2002), he told Hinckley that his main goal in returning to CBS a second time was creating unique content.” Among the moves included moving the WFAN (660 AM) to FM (101.9). He also cites adding Top 40 stations in Los Angeles and New York. There was also the addition to www.radio.com and www.play.it. Right here in New York, Mason says, switching WCBS-FM from the “Jack” format to “classic hits” was “a 400-foot home run.” The later move included the addition of longtime New York host, Scott Shannon to morning drive.
And what's next for Mason? He says he'll be involved with The Broadcasters Foundation and hopes to do some basketball play-by-play this fall. Andre J. Fernandez will succeed Mason as CBS Radio President. PHOTO/CBS

[WATCH] Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Turns 20; How A Couple Of Morning Hosts Helped Make It Happen
THE MOUTH, APRIL 15TH, 2015 –– As Cleveland's Rock And Roll Hall of Fame turns 20 this week, then WMMS-FM Cleveland's Jeff Kinzbach and Ed "Flash" Ference - known as the Buzzard show, are being remembered for helping to bring this legendary establishment to its city. "If we didn't take that initiative to do that, I don't think that the Rock and Roll Hall would have been here," said Ferenc to newsnet5.com. Kinzbach and Ference were part of the Buzzard Show. When word got out that there was to be a Rock Hall of Fame located somewhere in the U.S., USA Today, launched a campaign to have its readers vote on where the hall should be located. The Buzzard Show pushed hard for their listeners to telephone in and vote Cleveland. Overwhelmingly, Cleveland took a lead, even beating out New York City. "You know what?" said Kinzbach. "They had no choice because of that readers' poll." And where else but Cleveland? In the early 1950s, Alan Freed launched 'the Moon Dog Coronation ball there. And, as Kinsbach points out, Cleveland, at the time, sold more albums per capita than anywhere else. Along with Kinzbach and Ference, a lot of political and businesses help woo the hall to Cleveland. Of note: Cumulus' Mike McVay was among a handful of broadcasters who were on the original media committee.
Since opening in 1995, the Rock Hall has hosted more than 8.5 million visitors and reportedly had a cumulative economic impact to Cleveland estimated at more than $1.8 billion. The Museum and its activities are responsible for creating more than 950 jobs with an economic impact of more than $100 million annually. L to R: Ed “Flash” Ferenc, John Gorman, Jeff Kinzbach, Gov. Fair Play, Fair Pay Bill Back In Rotation
THE MOUTH, APRIL 14TH, 2015 –– A bipartisan House bill introduced this week would make AM/FM and satellite-radio broadcasters pay royalties to the artists of the songs they play on the air. The bill would also make digital radio pay for music recorded before 1972, according to The National Journal. Broadcasters say they shouldn't have to pay artists royalties to play their music on the air because of the benefits of the mass exposure that radio affords. A statement from the NAB strongly opposes the legislation: "It is disappointing that this bill retreads years-old policy positions rather than advancing the copyright dialogue through policies that help grow the entire music ecosystem," the association's top spokesman, Dennis Wharton, said in the statement. "The NAB stands ready to work with Congress on a balanced music-licensing proposal that promotes innovation and recognizes the benefit of our free locally focused platform to the benefit of artists and listeners." This latest bill includes protections for small and local radio stations. Those that make less than $1 million in annual revenue will only have to pay $500 a year in royalties, and college and local radio stations will be on the hook for $100 a year. Rep. Jerrold Nadler introduced the Fair Play Fair Pay Act along with Reps. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican, and Democrats John Conyers and Ted Deutch.

Podcasters Score Big Victory Against Patent Troll
THE MOUTH, APRIL 13TH, 2015 –– Podcast producers have less to fear now that a patent used to threaten many of them with lawsuits has been thrown out, according to ibtimes.com. On Friday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office invalidated key claims of the patent, which its owner claimed covered the concept of podcasting. The owner, Personal Audio, had previously used the patent in 2013 to demand licensing fees from podcasters such as comedian Adam Carolla (shown) who spent appx. $650,000 in legal fee, and three television networks. The digital rights advocacy group Electronic Frontier Foundation said. “We’re grateful for all the support of our challenge to this patent. Today is a big victory for the podcasting community,” Daniel Nazer, a staff attorney at the EFF, said in a news release. “We’re glad the Patent Office recognized what we all knew: ‘Podcasting’ had been around for many years and this company does not own it.” Following a petition filed by the EFF with the patent office, several aspects of the invention were found to be unpatentable due to the "prior art" of shows similar to podcasts, such as online broadcasts from CNN and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC). Specifically, the patent office invalidated the claims surrounding an “apparatus for disseminating a series of episodes represented by media files via the Internet as said episodes become available.”

"I don't want any tears," says St. John to The New York Daily News. "No one should say they're sad. This is a happy, wonderful moment. I've loved my 42 years here and now I'm moving to something else I love." Specifically, he was referring to he his family's move to the San Diego area. "We've been spending all our vacations there anyway," says St. John. "We've talked about moving for a while and finally we decided we were just missing too much by staying here." This does not, he stresses, mean he's retiring from radio. He will continue doing his daily 1 p.m. show on SiriusXM's "Sixties on 6" (Channel 6). "I've been doing the show from home for about 10 years," he says. "Now I'll just do it from a different city." NextRadio Applauds Resolution To Activate FM Radio In Smartphones
THE MOUTH, APRIL 13TH, 2015 –– The Indiana State Senate adopted Senate Resolution 28 "urging wireless carriers to activate the FM radio receivers in smartphones". The Senate Resolution focused on the need for Indiana residents to have direct access from their smartphones to the emergency information broadcasts of local radio stations. Activating the FM receiver in smartphones would provide immediate access to a radio in the device most residents currently carry even in the event that wireless data networks become unavailable or overwhelmed. The resolution outlines the consumer benefits of an activated FM radio in smartphones including radio's accessibility during an emergency, light battery usage, and non-reliance on internet data to function. Also noted was the fact that smartphones currently sold in the U.S. have this FM radio 'chip' already present and would require minimal effort to activate, allowing owners of these phones to listen to local FM radio stations throughout the United States. Presently, major wireless carriers in the United States have not taken steps to activate the FM chip in the smartphones they sell, and as they profit from the consumer data usage of streaming media, do not feel compelled to provide a free alternative. The current exception is Sprint, which has provided FM radio access in new Android devices sold since September 2013. Similar legislative actions are set to take place in other states. They send a message to the wireless industry that the representatives of the people would like to see measures enforced that benefit and help protect their constituents. TagStation®, a division of Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications, has created the NextRadio® smartphone app which utilizes the activated FM receivers in smartphones to deliver an interactive local radio listening experience.

Newsweek Devotes 10,000 Word Article To Nasty Radio Feud
THE MOUTH, APRIL 10TH, 2015 –– Newsweek reporter Polly Mosendz spent a total of over three hours talking separately with Anthony Cumia, Gregg “Opie” Hughes and Jim Norton for a closer look inside one of radio's nastiest breakups. As Jockline reported, last year, Cumia was fired by SiriusXM over controversial comments made on his Twitter account following an altercation with an African-American woman. Jim Norton moved in as co-host and Cumia took his show the podcast route. On Monday, Anthony said on air that he felt Opie had not done everything he could to save his job. He told Newsweek, “He didn’t do that, and I don’t think he came close. Opie confirmed to Newsweek that he did not threaten to quit in negotiations to keep Anthony onboard. “I didn’t feel like we were on that page anymore,” he says. Norton didn’t threaten to quit either. Mosendz says 'The duo’s fight was in many ways a long time coming: Both Anthony and Opie point to events from as long ago as 1999, as well as multiple “jabs” exchanged between the two since Anthony’s firing. “Since he got fired nine months ago, he’s been passive-aggressively taking shots at me on podcasts, allowing people on his show to trash me,” Opie said on his show this week.
On air, Opie said he would not do radio with Anthony again, but to Newsweek he said, “I would never say never.” Anthony, on the other hand, does not see a future for the O and A show. “I don’t think we could do the Opie and Anthony show ever again. Whether there is some room in the future for something, I don’t know. Stranger things have happened, but right now, I don’t see it.”

NAB Strongly Opposes Radio Performance Tax Legislation
THE MOUTH, APRIL 10TH, 2015 –– In response to the reports that Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) plans to introduce legislation that would negatively impact local radio stations across America, NAB Executive Vice President of Communications Dennis Wharton issued the following statement: "NAB will strongly oppose the legislation reportedly being introduced by Rep. Nadler on Monday. It is disappointing that this bill retreads years-old policy positions rather than advancing the copyright dialogue through policies that help grow the entire music ecosystem. NAB stands ready to work with Congress on a balanced music licensing proposal that promotes innovation and recognizes the benefit of our free locally-focused platform to the benefit of artists and listeners. We're pleased that, in a little over three months into the new Congress, 147 House Members and 11 Senators already agree that the fees proposed by Rep. Nadler would kill jobs, hurt artist promotion and devastate local economies across America." Reps. Michael Conaway (R-TX) and Gsene Green (D-TX) are the principal sponsors of the Local Radio Freedom Act (H. Con. Res. 17) in the House of Representatives. Sens. John Barrasso (R-WY) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) are the principal sponsors of the companion resolution (S. Con. Res. 4) in the Senate. "Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over-the-air, or on any business for such public performance of sound recordings," reads the Local Radio Freedom Act.

Minnesota Host Takes Leave Following Stalker Incidents
THE MOUTH, APRIL 9TH, 2015 –– A Twin Cities host announced on her Wednesday show she is taking a leave of absence from 89.3 the Current because of incidents with a stalker. According to mprnews.com, Mary Lucia, a host on Minnesota Public Radio station 89.3 The Current, posted an open letter on the station's website. Lucia saying she's been harassed by a stalker at her home and work:
"Do you know what it's like to feel unsafe watching a band at First Avenue?" she wrote. "To worry any time a stranger approaches you? To not be able to sleep or eat properly? That's what my past year has been like. I've made a 21-year career on the radio in this town being honest and authentic, and now I'm deathly afraid to reveal too much of myself on the air. Basically, it's changed the way I am — how I think, react, feel, interact with you guys. This aspect particularly bothers me." "I'm not fired, I'm not quitting, I'm not going to work for another radio station. I am taking time off to deal with this issue and take care of myself," she wrote. "Just know that I will be back, at The Current, and soon."

French Radio On Strike - France’s most respected radio shows are broadcasting “oldies” instead of the news. For two weeks, technicians, ancillary staff and a few journalists at Radio France have been on strike against spending cuts. After a breakdown of negotiations over the weekend, there will be at least another week without normal programming. French public radio – two news and current-affairs channels, a culture channel, a classical music channel, two pop-music stations and dozens of local stations – has been severely disrupted. On Friday, the main journalists’ union joined in for the first time. At issue, according to the management and the government, are the savings needed to plug a €21.3m deficit in Radio France’s books this year – the first losses in its 40-year history. If nothing is done, they say, Radio France will be losing €280m a year by 2019.

I’m not going to sit here and make believe I do — I don’t like you. And it’s a shame because I know what we used to have, but I just wish, you know, you could just f***ing move on,” Hughes said. Stan Freberg, Famed Comedic Genius Of Radio/TV/Advertising, Passes Away At 88
THE MOUTH, APRIL 8TH, 2015 –– Stan Freberg, the man credited with pioneering funny commercials, died Tuesday at 88. According to AP, Freberg provided the voices for numerous cartoon characters for such films as Lady and the Tramp, Alice in Wonderland and Stuart Little. He did them for popular TV programs as well, including The Bugs Bunny Show, Ren & Stimpy and Freakazoid. He also appeared in front of the camera, including a recurring role on the 90's sitcom Roseanne. But his greatest impact perhaps came through comedy records and syndicated radio shows. Among his many awards included two dozen CLIO awards and being named to the Radio Hall of Fame. According to the New York Times, his radio sketches for CBS in 1957 included some of the earliest put-downs of political correctness (before that idea had a name). One sketch entailed a confrontation with a fictional network censor, Mr. Tweedlie, who insisted that Mr. Freberg change the lyrics of “Ol’ Man River,” starting with the title. He wanted it renamed “Elderly Man River.” In addition to his son, Donavan, he is survived by his wife, Hunter Freberg; his daughter, Donna Jean Freberg; and one granddaughter.

GLOVES OFF: Things Get Personal Between Opie And Anthony
It Was Clear (To Cumia) That His Splintered Friendship With Opie Had Been 'Years In the Making'
THE MOUTH, APRIL 7TH, 2015 –– To some, this latest tiff between Anthony Cumia and longtime former partner Greg Opie Hughes may have stunt written all over it, but the words seem to tell a different story. Cumia opened up on yesterday's show about his strained relationship with his former partner in a segment called “Walking on Greggshells.” According to theblaze.com, Cumia began the show by proclaiming, “I don’t like it when things are said about me that aren’t true.” He then went over several statements made by Hughes that he said were untrue, or that he was never aware of. “Opie had brought up that he saw this ‘Opie and Anthony’ coming to an end,” Cumia said. “One of the ideas were splitting the show. I’ve got to tell you, in all honesty, I have never heard of this. This was never discussed. It makes no sense.' Things then became more candid as he revealed it was clear that his splintered friendship with Hughes has been “years in the making.” 'Things have gotten to the point where his former co-host wanted to have a private discussion before they appeared on the air together again, Cumia explained. He said he’d be happy to host Hughes on his show or appear on SiriusXM to talk it out on the air.“I don’t want to sit and have a beer with him and discuss something — what, why? And it’s not a radio bit to put it on the air. It’s just an honest airing. I think we owe it to the people that made us successful to not go behind some closed door because we have a fear, of what, airing our dirty laundry? We’ve done it for years,” Cumia added. Later on Twitter, Opie responded: 'You are still human garbage. Might want to look into what really is eating you. I'm not the problem.' Cumia fired back: 'Ha, okay that's a good one.' Their mutual fans weighed in as well.

[LISTEN] Kelly Clarkson Gets Apology Over 'Fat Shaming'
THE MOUTH, APRIL 6TH, 2015 –– Syndicated Radio Host, Mike Gallagher, And Fox News' Chris Wallace have issued separate apologies to pop star, Kelly Clarkson, after joking about her weight. During a conversation where they joked about Little Caesar's bacon-wrapped pizza on last Friday's radio show, Gallagher brought up singer Kelly Clarkson. “Holy cow, did she blow up,” Gallagher quipped to guest Chris Wallace, a Fox News anchor. Wallace seemed to avoid wanting to comment, putting the emphasis on her voice. But then added “She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while. On Saturday night, Gallagher posted a public apology to his website in which he referred to himself as “Tubby Mike.” “I couldn’t possibly feel any worse than I do for making an observation that led to the conclusion that I ‘fat shamed’ this talented and classy entertainer,” he wrote. “It was a really stupid thing for me to do.” Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace later issued a statement to Mediaite on Sunday apologizing for his comment about Kelly Clarkson’s weight. “I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment,” Wallace told Mediaite. “I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.”
She told Ellen DeGeneres on Friday that the media has constantly scrutinized her weight ever since she auditioned for American Idol in 2002. “I was the biggest girl on the show, too. And I wasn’t big, but people would call me big,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I think what hurts my feelings for people is then I’ll have a meet-and-greet after the show and a girl who’s bigger than me will be in the meet-and-greet and be like, ‘Oh God, if they think you’re big, I must be so fat to them,’ ” Clarkson said. “You’re just who you are. We are who we are, whatever size." Clarkson shown above from private concert with iHeartRadio at The Grove Los Angeles. PHOTO/Piper Ferguson/iHeart Radio - LISTEN TO ORIGINAL AUDIO HERE

Iowa Radio Host Gets Help To Offset Liver Transplant Costs
THE MOUTH, APRIL 6TH, 2015 –– Over 300 family members, co-workers and friends joined longtime Iowa City-area radio host Tommy Lang last Saturday for a fundraiser to pay for a massive stack of bills incurred by a liver transplant in March, according to The Press Citizen. He finally had to leave KCJJ in November/2014 where he had been since 2005. When he heals 100 percent, Lang said, he'll be back on the air full time. After spending the entire month of February in the hospital, Lang got news of a liver coming his way March 16. On March 17, he was going into surgery. Lang says his health has improved every day. "I have part of another human being inside me. It's kind of a miracle this stuff can work," Lang said. What isn't going away are the bills. Lang's co-workers at KCJJ advertised the fundraiser over the air and made connections to those who donated items to be raffled at the fundraiser. As of last weekend, a GoFundMe account had raised $14,286.
SLC Radio Host Helps Locate Family Of Utah Murder Victim
THE MOUTH, APRIL 6TH, 2015 –– The remains of Teresa Rose Greaves, a SLC woman who went missing on Aug. 5, 1983, were discovered in February and thanks to a Utah genealogy/radio host, her family has now been located. Scott Fisher (inset), host of Extreme Genes, told The Salt Lake Tribune, "They had a real difficult situation on their hands. It was very hard to find people because it had been so long and everybody had moved away. That changed last Wednesday night, when the sheriff's office finally reached a cousin and uncle in Florida. But getting there was one of the most difficult investigations Fisher says he's ever joined. From day one, Fisher felt invested in Greaves' case; her bones were just down the road from his house. "I have ridden past that site every day for decades," Fisher said. "So basically I offered to help. Like Liam Neeson, I told them I have a special set of skills." After noticing Greaves had been wearing her class ring, from Collingswood High School in New Jersey, Fisher found a Facebook page dedicated to her graduating class of 1977 and, through its administrator, emailed everyone he could. He connected with Debbie Veevers. She went to the city hall and found the deed for Greave's uncle's house, and passed along the names on the deed to Fisher. He matched those with U.S. Census records, and from there called and sent Facebook messages to people associated with Greaves' family. "Then [Wednesday] afternoon, I heard from the first family member," Fisher said."

Mike Francesa Says Relationship With CBS Radio Has 'Never Been Worse;' Lauds Les Moonves
THE MOUTH, APRIL 3RD, 2015 –– Mike Francesa says since first going public about his frayed relationship with CBS Radio seven months ago, time has not healed any of the wounds, according to newsday.com. He described his relationship with CBS executives, "very poor," "awful" and "terrible" and said it has "never been worse." Speaking during a break in his show at the Hard Rock Cafe in Manhattan, Francesa said that for legal reasons he could not go into details about the nature of the dispute, but acknowledged one source of tension is his ongoing frustration over his often pre-empted simulcast on Fox Sports 1 and 2, and CBS' inability or unwillingness to find a contractual solution. "We have a difference of opinion on a number of issues now, and Fox is one of them, yes," he said. "But I've been asked not to discuss it in any detail and I'm going to abide by what I was asked not to do." Although under contract for another three years, he said "My relationship with the people who I deal with is awful right now; it's terrible," he said. "We don't agree on philosophy. Nothing's changed. It's what it is. I do my show. They didn't have any interest in fixing what I wanted fixed." Francesa didn't name names, but he excluded CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves, saying "This has nothing to do with Les Moonves.

The show will chronicle Pickler and her husband's relationship and lifestyle. “It finally feels right with the people that we’re working with [Seacrest], and having CMT as our home. There’s no drama, there’s no cat fights. Nothing like that,” Pickler tells Rolling Stone Country. “We just want to be a bright light and make people happy — make ‘em feel good and help them get away from their day a little bit.” Pickler describes the show as sort of a 'I Love Lucy' that starred Lucille Ball. "We're in the creative process right now," she tells Rolling Stone. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the program is produced by the Idol alum's old buddy, Ryan Seacrest, whose track record includes Keeping Up With the Kardashians. "I've been offered reality shows since Idol," Pickler admits. "With Ryan it just felt right. We've been talking about it for years, and just have never made it a priority." No official name has been selected for the series yet, but 'I Love Kellie' might be a great choice.

BBC Presenter's Fury At Being Kicked Off His Show Because He's Engaged To Conservative - MP A BBC presenter has vented his fury at the corporation in an on-air outburst after he was kicked off his popular morning show because he is engaged to the local Tory MP. BBC Radio Bristol presenter John Darvall, 48, and MP Charlotte Leslie, 36, began dating in October and got engaged just two months later. But the radio DJ has been ousted from his mid-morning show and moved to a less news-based afternoon slot in the run-up to polling day, as she is standing for re-election. Speaking to a caller during a phone-in to discuss Jeremy Clarkson's sacking from the BBC, Mr Darvall said: 'Trust me I have a lot of reasons myself to be angry with the BBC at the moment.' Later, when a caller suggested he should apply to replace the controversial Top Gear presenter, he joked: 'I am coming off this programme tomorrow, so I might consider something of a career departure.' Questioned by another caller, he added: 'It's to do with the election and protecting BBC impartiality. It's not my decision. 'I'm honouring what the BBC have asked me to do and I sincerely hope to be back after the general election, and the BBC have sort of said that I might possibly be, barring any unforeseen circumstances. 'A true BBC management meeting.'

NIELSEN: Heavy Radio Listeners Spend Nearly Nine Hours A Week Online
THE MOUTH, APRIL 2ND, 2015 –– In a recent study of Media's Mega Users, Nielsen Media showed that heavy viewers and listeners are often considered the ‘super fans’ of the media ecosystem. These power users devote significant hours of their lives to one medium or another and are the most likely to consistently engage with content and advertising found on those channels. Nielsen released the Audio report profiling the listening habits of the 243 million Americans who use radio each week. The report also included a profile of the heaviest users across four media sectors. And an interesting headline emerged: heavy radio listeners and heavy TV viewers are, for the most part, mutually exclusive. Heavy TV viewers watch nearly double the amount of TV each week as heavy radio listeners, and conversely, heavy radio listeners listen to nearly double the amount of radio each week as heavy TV viewers. Based on habits alone, it is highly unlikely that a heavy radio listener would also be a heavy TV viewer because the heavy radio listener is much more likely to be away from home more often—where TV viewing is less likely to occur. This is a major reason why the findings of other Nielsen studies which have shown that radio does an exceptional job of increasing TV tune-in, particularly in the days and hours leading up to a premier or other primetime event. Heavy radio listeners spend nearly nine hours a week online, second only to the heavy Internet group at over 16 hours weekly. And both of these groups are very likely to use social media to stay connected; nearly all (92%) heavy Internet users also use social media, and three-quarters of heavy radio listeners do, too. Tom Hanks Son Threatens Howard Stern In Twitter Rant
'One day, maybe tomorrow, maybe 10 years from now, I am going to see you in person, and I am going to hurt you… I hope you travel with security!!!'
THE MOUTH, APRIL 1ST, 2015 –– Rapper Chet Haze, son of famed actor Tom Hanks, has raised his long-term feud with Howard Stern to a new level, calling the radio icon a “c*nt” and threatening to assault him, according to gossipcop.com. The feud goes back in 2011, when Stern first mocked Haze for his rap persona.
Following an appearance on SiriusXM' Rude Jude Show in January where the host added his own knocks on the rapper, Jude appeared on Stern's show and subject turned to Haze. Then on March 20th, Haze tweeted (condensed) “Listening to the @HowardStern show this sh*t isn’t funny at all…' He added, “@HowardStern your time has passed… You’re old… Only old people listen to you… The young generation doesn’t know you.” This past Monday, he unloaded again in a Twitter rant at Stern, posting: 'Let me come up on your show b*tch… Come catch this fade… have me live on the air and we can go pound for pound see who looks like the fool you dried up old c*nt catch this fade… ....Howie… Do you have any idea how badly I am going to assault you when I see you… You can’t run from me forever knock knees… Howie… Listen. One day, maybe tomorrow, maybe 10 years from now, I am going to see you in person, and I am going to hurt you… I hope you travel with security!!! PLEASE have me on the show… I’ll sh*t on you and your yuppie side kicks on your own show… " His comments were far from over. CLICK HERE FOR MORE
REPORT: Casey Kasem Secretly Ducked Death Threats
THE MOUTH, APRIL 1ST, 2015 –– While a criminal investigation is still pending in the death of radio icon Casey Kasem, reportedly, the longtime American Top 40 host had secretly ducked death threats from fanatics and others according to The Daily Beast. The outlet learned in a recent FBI document dump that Kasem, who cemented his Hollywood star as the inventor of the American Top 40, was secretly ducking death threats from a few fanatics—and at least one lover of an art-rock band, too. Long before he was struck with Lewy disease, people came at Casey Kasem with 'crank phone calls and fatal attraction letters. '
During the summer of 1980, a woman made a visit to the Watermark Studio in Los Angeles. There, she tried to kiss Kasem during a photo shoot. “During the picture session she attempted to kiss him but he backed away from her,” the FBI documents say. Kasem ordered his staff to make sure sure she was swiftly sent off in a cab back to the airport after the show’s taping. The fan thought the Kasem was in love with her. But when the divorced Kasem married Jean Thompson, she started writing letters on Christmas Eve in 1980 accusing Kasem of rape, alcoholism, and molesting his kids. “By the end of June or else—I’ll come out to California and kill you, your ‘wife’ and your three kids—this is a promise. I’ll do it too because I know where you work,” she wrote in one letter, found in the FBI trove. She added, “a bullet through your heart will be first and then I’ll pour kerosene on your dead body and torch you until its charred.” There were many other incidents that followed. Afterward Kasem agreed to let his phone line be tapped, FBI records show. READ FULL STORY HERE
