Futuri To Provide 'Rate The Debate' Voting Feature During Debates
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2016 –– Futuri Media has released a special live voting feature, exclusively for Futuri Mobile and TopicPulse Social Media clients to use tonight during the Presidential debate. The new feature will provide direct viewer and listener sentiment during the debate, providing audiences and analysts with real-time feedback. During all three Presidential debates as well as the Vice Presidential debate, Futuri stations will register live votes from local viewers/listeners on whether they agree or disagree with the politicians on the air. During the debates, viewers and listeners will go to the stations mobile app or website, select their party, identify whether they are registered voter or not, and vote "agree" or "disagree" in real time during the debate. Collective data will be displayed in a website voting window as well as a page in the Futuri Mobile app. At the end of each debate segment, participating Futuri client stations will receive summary data and suggested talking points regarding their local audience's voting metrics.
“Futuri specializes in digital audience engagement. Our goal is to provide Futuri stations with a unique second-screen experience for their audiences, capture real-time audience sentiment, and support our mobile and TopicPulse partners in producing the very best and most relevant coverage for their local audiences,” said Futuri CEO, Daniel Anstandig. With so many undecided voters in contested states, this year’s Presidential and Vice Presidential debates are critical opportunities for the campaigns as well as the media outlets covering them. This year’s debates are anticipating significant audiences, with some predicting that more than 100 million will tune in to view Monday night’s debate. This is especially notable, considering that debates during the last four election cycles have only attracted audiences to the tune of 40-65 million.

and are often dependent on more diverse events, ranging from luck, team performance, and other variables that simply don’t show up in the box scores."
Jacob's favorite baseball stat is – WAR – or Wins Above Replacement. WAR has become the all-purpose, single stat that attempts to answer the complicated question about value. According to The Hollywood Patch, his 67 years with the Dodgers is the longest tenure of a broadcaster in any sport. City Councilman Gil Cedillo declared Friday Vin Scully Day, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti presented Scully with the key to the city. "I try to call a play, shut up, and listen to the crowd, and in that moment, I'm 8 years old,” he said recently.
The Dodgers had distributed a letter from Scully to each fan, in which he wrote about growing up with the fans of Los Angeles. “The transistor radio is what bound us together. “Were you at the Coliseum when we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to an umpire? Were you among the crowd that groaned at one of my puns? Did you kindly laugh at one of my little jokes? Did I put you to sleep with the transistor radio under your pillow? You were simply always there for me." Scully, who turns 89 in November, grinned as he talked about his retirement plans. “I’m going to try to live,” he said. And, amid all the love and tears, he closed with a laugh line. “I’m looking for a much smaller house and a much larger medicine cabinet,” he said. “Good night, everybody!" Of note, it was only fitting that the Dodgers celebrated their fourth straight National League West title after Charlie Culberson homered with two outs in the 10th inning to beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Sunday. iHeartMedia 'Reinventing Live Radio' With Launch Of Two New Subscription Services
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2016 –– iHeartMedia announced today that it is reinventing live radio with the launch of its two new subscription services -- iHeartRadio Plus and iHeartRadio All Access -- set to debut in January 2017. While research shows that more than 90 percent of listeners say they listen to both FM radio and music collections, but at different times, for different reasons, this marks the first time ever that on demand functionality will be used to improve the radio experience, unlike current services which can only approach on demand through a music collection offering. Because 73 percent of consumers, which include users of on demand music services, continually cite radio as their primary source of music discovery, iHeartRadio’s new on demand offering will allow listeners to bridge the divide between music discovery and music collecting by seamlessly incorporating true interactivity into the radio listening experience through a variety of new features.
“We’re now making it easier than ever for iHeartRadio users to think of music discovery and collecting in a brand new and easy-to-use way,” said Darren Davis, President of iHeartRadio. “For the first time ever, when listeners hear a new or favorite song on the radio they can instantly replay a song and even save it directly to a playlist. We are reimagining radio -- with the new technologies and offerings powered by our on-demand options, music discovery, music collecting and the power of community and companionship fostered by live radio and influential and trusted personalities.
iHeartRadio is now combining it all for the first time; there’s no other digital music service that can do this.” “For decades radio has remained the No. 1 medium to reach consumers, fostering a sense of community and engaging listeners through entertaining on-air personalities and curated music and content,” said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia. “While other streaming services have taken a music collection approach to digital streaming, no one has yet built a service incorporating on demand technology with real live radio-- and at a scale that only iHeartMedia can, with its reach of over a quarter of a billion people every month --- It’s a monumental shift for the industry as we lead the way into a new era of interactive radio.”
'Contests Are Not Bad' Says Leigh Jacobs
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2016 –– Lots of buzz this week and during radio show in Nashville following NuVoodoo Media's latest blog showing nearly half of likely PPM participants think radio contests are rigged. Following this weeks post in Jockline (9/19) we heard from NuVoodoo's Leigh Jacobs (L) who assured us that reaction has been very positive from those who actually read the press release or blog post. A few, Jacobs says, who read only the headline or skimmed the post, thought we had concluded that contests are bad -- which is NOT the case." The findings came from our eighth Ratings Prospects Study, a study NuVoodoo fields twice a year to deepen its understanding of the consumers radio cares about most. Our questionnaires always include some questions devoted to contests, prizes and promotions. Some of the questions are just about interest/participation in contests in general, more are specific to radio station contests.
As for key takeaways from the study, Jacobs says, "The problem we believe is a need for greater transparency in contests. I suggested a number of ideas in addition to promoting winners on the air and online: · Showing prize drawings on Facebook Live – involving listeners when possible. · Setting up special groups on Social Media and offering email blasts for listeners who want extra chances at station prizes (in exchange for more of their personal information for the station’s database). · Making sure listeners who email or comment on station Social Media channels get thoughtful, timely responses. · Empowering staffers to answer listener phone calls; since the people who do call are disproportionately likely to be the people stations most want to influence.
I think the underlying problem is promotion practices that are long on solicitation and short on follow-through. We hear lots of promos about contests on the air, but rarely hear anything about people actually winning station contests. Part of the issue is entry method. Texting-in-to-win has become a more attractive contest entry method than the time-honored, “be-caller-10,” but texting robs the process of audio from an excited contest winner as proof that the contest is legitimate.
Group/national contests are troublesome as well, since stations don't want to spotlight winners from distant markets. While our guidance wouldn’t be to move away from shared contests, it IS necessary to start with a plan in mind of how to trumpet the news about local winners on-the-air and in external marketing. We think it's worth putting a few dollars behind ads in Social Media to showcase local contest winners. Station communications and websites need to show actual contest winners with Publishers-Clearinghouse style checks.

1.7 Billion Strong, Millennials Are Just Starting To Flex Their Spending Power Reports Nielsen
they’re just starting to flex their spending power,
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2016 –– According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s International Database, Millennials make up one-fourth of the planet’s population, which translates into 1.7 billion people. As a consumer group, they’re just starting to flex their spending power, which will grow significantly in the coming years. While they’re years from fully establishing themselves, they’re already having a marked impact on the global consumer landscape.
Having grown up amid growing media fragmentation, Millennials are hyper adept at multitasking and are fully immersed in both their digital and physical lives. Notably, findings from more than a dozen Nielsen Global Survey reports from 2013-2016, which polled the attitudes of more than 30,000 online consumers in more than 60 countries, revealed that Millennials are a social, community-driven generation that values the voice of the individual. Millennials are also a demanding generation that wants a more balanced, healthy lifestyle, and they want to be more informed about companies, their products and their business practices. They also expect products to do more for them and for their community. They excel in a fast-paced world that requires an on-the-go lifestyle. They value, even demand, connectivity, convenience and options that allow them to be in control. These core values and characteristics will remain the key influencers and drivers for how Millennials think, spend and act throughout their lifetimes. SEE STUDY HERE
Scott Shannon's Brings Back True Oldies Channel
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2016 –– United Stations Radio Networks announced that it is expanding its association with the legendary programmer, Scott Shannon, by offering his 24-hour-a-day True Oldies Channel to radio stations across America. Since November of 2014, USRN has been the distributor of Scott’s weekend program known as America’s Greatest Hits, which is a co-production with CBS Radio. Now, as an independent producer, Scott is in business with United Stations to re-launch his popular full-time oldies network for the first time since 2014.
The True Oldies Channel is currently on the air again in several test markets using a new cloud-based distribution technology developed by Synchronicity, Inc. Scott Shannon’s True Oldies Channel began as the brainchild of Scott Shannon in 2004. Shannon noticed that as Classic Hits radio stations were evolving their demographic target and moving their music focus toward more recent decades, there was an opening for programming that featured an entire library of hit music that was starting to be overlooked. Shannon is not only the namesake of the channel but is its program director and on-air host. The True Oldies Channel was originally launched by the ABC Radio Network which then evolved into Citadel Media, and during its original run the channel was heard on approximately 100 radio stations. Fred Jacobs Asks: Are Billboards The New Black?
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2016 –– Jacobs Media's head Fred Jacobs blogs, 'In a time where digital advertising and video are the rage, an old standard is making a marketing comeback: the lowly billboard. Except the modern version – electronic boards – are providing flexibility at every turn of a campaign. The New York Times reports that while billboards have a decidedly retro feel, advertisers continue to reap benefits from outdoor advertising.
jacobs adds, as radio becomes just another choice rather than the front and center attraction in the dash, the challenge become one of awareness, especially for those kids who are part of Generation Z. Many of them simply don’t know what radio is. And if they’re not listening to radio outside the car, they’ll have no motivation to seek out radio when they’re in one. Radio is going to have to market itself, and the billboard becomes an obvious advertising choice. The last decade has proved that while tech brands like Apple, Google, Samsung, and others continue to break new ground, we keep seeing their devices and innovations on the sides of buildings and highly visible on billboards in major markets all over the U.S. It’s an old school and effective approach that creates awareness. Why would NextRadio be any different? The billboard could end up being the way radio delivers that message to consumers – of all ages. " READ COMPLETE BLOG HERE

SABO: How Radio Can Avoid 'Newspaper Killers'
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2016 - Following a recent Pew Research Study showing newspapers seeing its greatest decline since 2010, Consultant Walter Sabo tells Jockline these same 'killers' can be avoided by radio. "Classified Ads once provided the highest percent of profits for newspapers," said Sabo. "They cost nothing to sell, cost nothing to create and customers paid up front. In 2003 the Classified section of the Los Angeles Times out grossed ALL Los Angeles Radio stations combined. Newspapers, however, did not, could not, anticipate the impact of Craigslist. Craigslist killed classified advertising.
As for radio, Sabo says its over dependence on morning drive revenue is similar to newspaper's dependence on Classifieds. "Newspapers had limited local "talent". Most local papers had one star columnist and one sports columnist. The rest of the content was available on many other platforms. Their entire content offering was not unique---except for one or two columnists, maybe.
The lesson is obvious and simple: The more unique talent offered by a station---all day and night---the less vulnerable the business. Almost every single newspaper Editor thought they were committing Journalism. They didn't want to admit that there are key entertainment elements to a newspaper. FOR EXAMPLE the first read section of a newspaper is THE COMICS. Editors hate that fact but it's a fact. A hardcore newspaper person takes the paper and reads the front page---then the Editorial page. An normal reader stars with the comics and then hits the gossip page. If newspapers had celebrated the popular elements such as comics and astrology rather than bury them they would have found more and more popular elements that would build out the paper's appeal. The culture of a legacy editorial staff was to view popular elements as "unclean" and "not serious."
Every radio programmer holds certain principles to be sacred and very serious. Perhaps it's worth reviewing those principles with skepticism. Many newspapers STILL do not embrace the Internet as a distribution channel for their content. At some papers, the website is treated just like the paper product---it is only refreshed once a day. Smart papers update their online presence constantly---and they staff for it. Radio stations that will thrive are the ones the identify every single channel for distribution and monetize them. AdLarge Introduces New Platform To Supercharge Call-In Lines And Enhance Listener Interaction
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 21ST, 2016 –– AdLarge Media has introduced Shout To Me, an audience engagement platform that supercharges traditional call-in lines and revolutionizes the way radio stations interact with their listeners. Shout To Me leverages sophisticated tools to intelligently process listener-recorded audio clips -- called shouts -- and make them available for radio stations to use on-air and online. Listeners can record shouts using the station’s existing call-in line or smartphone application. Once recorded, the Shout To Me platform instantly converts the audio to text, saving producers and screeners from needing to listen to each one. It also categorizes and tags the shouts, so station staff can quickly find the best ones to use on-air.
“The more stations engage with their audience, the more they can increase the time that listeners spend and interact with the station, and that attracts sponsors and increases revenue,” said Jessica Sherman Senior Director, Affiliate Marketing for AdLarge Media. “Shout to Me connects radio stations directly to their audiences wherever they may be.” For more information, contact Jessica Sherman at 646-759-8431 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

REPORT: iHeartMedia To Launch Paid Music Service
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2016 –– iHeartMedia will announce this week the launch of a major paid streaming service, reports The New York Post. The paid streaming service, the first of its kind for a traditional radio outfit, will include a $5-a-month ad-free radio station and a $10-a-month on-demand music service, according to people familiar with iHeartMedia’s plans. IHeartMedia Chief Executive Bob Pittman is expected to make the announcement during the company’s music festival in Las Vegas this week, sources said.
The news follows Pandora recently recent announcement of its $5 service and Amazon is expected to follow suit on its Echo device. Pittman’s company, however, plans to nclude off-line play, sources said. By jumping into the paid streaming game, iHeart will get a toehold in the lucrative subscription business and a direct credit card relationship with its listeners.
The paid streaming service will require new licenses from the major labels, and iHeart is negotiating directly with those, sources said, rather than opting for statutory radio licenses. “Radio has underinvested in digital. I’m very impressed with iHeart services, and although they haven’t announced anything in response to Pandora, I’ve got to believe they are feeling the heat of competition, especially in the car, which has been the one area they have enjoyed exclusive positioning,” Larry Miller, a director at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, told The Post. Latest Judge's Ruling In Licensing Case Seen As Victory For Broadcasters & Digital Music Providers
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2016 –– A federal judge on Friday rejected a recent Justice Department ruling on music licensing in a move that was immediately hailed by the music industry as a major victory reports The New York Times. In his decision, Judge Louis L. Stanton of the United States District Court in Manhattan said the Justice Department erred last month when it issued a detailed interpretation of a regulatory document known as a consent decree. The document has long governed Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), a licensing agency that collects money whenever songs are publicly performed, including radio, streaming services and in public places
After a two-year investigation, the antitrust division of the Justice Department decided that BMI and ASCAP were required to issue 100 percent licenses for the millions of songs in their catalogs. In his ruling, Judge Stanton — who monitors BMI and its compliance with its consent decree, which dates back to 1941 — was unequivocal that the interpretation of the Justice Department’s antitrust division was incorrect. “Nothing in the consent decree gives support to the division’s views,” Judge Stanton wrote. "If Judge Stanton’s ruling stands, it should put those fears to rest, Michael O’Neill, the chief executive of BMI, said in an interview on Friday. “Now songwriters can go into writing rooms,” Mr. O’Neill said, “not feeling like they have to bring lawyers with them."

... Ratings Hit An All-Time Low
49% Of Likely PPM Participants Believe Most Radio Contests Are Rigged Says Study
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2016 –– NuVoodoo Media Services revealed that its recent NuVoodoo Ratings Prospects Study of over 3,500 subjects revealed that 49% of likely PPM participants believe most radio station contests are rigged – and over half among 18-44 year olds. Among likely PPM participants who think that most radio station contests are rigged, some are aware that stations are trying to extract more listening, while even more complain about their inability to contact the station. A lack of transparency also comes into play, with groups complaining they don’t see or hear the prize drawings or they have suspicions most of the prizes aren’t actually given away.
Leigh Jacobs, Executive Vice President, Research Analysis, NuVoodoo Media Services observes: “Our findings point to a need for greater transparency in radio contests. While these issues are less important to the large numbers of listeners who are not susceptible to contests, they are very important to the smaller group whose listening stations want to influence.” Mike O’Connor, Executive Vice President, Marketing, NuVoodoo Media Services said: “We know that only about 5% of radio listeners care about contests, but the number goes up tenfold among likely ratings respondents. Yet half that group thinks the game is rigged. FOR MORE INFORMATION, Contact Carolyn Gilbert, President, NuVoodoo Media Services, at: email@example.com or at 888.9VooDoo (888.986.6366)

2:00 A.M. Call To Mayor Lands Host Suspension
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 16TH, 2016 –– In addition to her radio show, WGN/Chicago late night host Patti Vasquez does standup comedy but apparently the mayor of Chicago wasn't laughing when he got a call at 2:00 a.m. Vasquez, who hosts late nights on Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720, featured a bit in which she’d call local celebrities in the middle of the night reports blogger Robert Feder. Mostly people who get up early, like morning TV anchors and reporters. But on September 2, Vasquez had three guests in her studio — Illinois State Senator Dan Kotowski, Chicago Tribune political cartoonist Scott Stantis and Gregory Seal Livingston, founder of the Coalition For A New Chicago.
One of them slipped Vasquez the home number of Mayor Rahm Emanuel (inset). So she placed a call. It was about 1:55 a.m. After three rings, a male voice answered the phone with a sleepy “Hello.” Vasquez identified herself and asked if it was Rahm Emanuel. The man hung up. Vasquez called back and Emanuel answered after one ring. Here's part of the exchange: Emanuel: Hello? Vasquez: Hello, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, this is Patti Vasquez from WGN Radio. Rahm Emanuel Rahm Emanuel Emanuel: Yeah, but it’s 2 in the morning. Vasquez: That’s what time my show is on. I appreciate that you answered the phone. We were honestly expecting to get your voice mail, so I apologize for waking you up. ... .were you awake? Emanuel: I was sleeping.
Feder writes that everyone in the studio reacted as if it were hysterically funny. So did some listeners. But not everyone was laughing. The next day an aide to the mayor made it clear to station management that Emanuel did not appreciate the calls. WGN then deleted the audio of “Wake Up Call to Rahm Emanuel” from their website, canceled the bit for good, and suspended Vasquez and her producer for one night.

[LISTEN] Hillary Clinton Makes Radio One Of Her First Stops After Returning To The Campaign Trail
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2016 –– Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told listeners of this morning's Tom Joyner Morning Show she’s feeling much better then proceeded to answer some tough questions from show members. Don Lemon brought up the former Secretary of State Colin Powell, in his hacked emails, saying he has criticized you and your “minions” for trying to drag him into your email server problem. ..How do you answer him and critics who say whether it’s your emails, or disclosing your health issues or even pointing out Trump’s flypaper-like ability for attracting racially insensitive or “deplorables” as you call them, that somehow the message gets screwed up?
I have a great deal of respect for Colin Powell. And I have a lot of sympathy for anyone whose emails become public. I’m not going to start discussing someone’s private emails. I’ve already spent a lot of time talking about mine, as you know. What I think is really important about these emails is the chilling fact is that the Russians are continuing to interfere with our elections.
Lemon then asked about her health records. "I’m very touched by the concern that’s been set forth about my health. I’m really glad that I did finally follow my doctor’s orders and take some days to rest instead of just powering through, which I think is a common experience for people. So we’re going to put out more information and that will be twice as much as he’s put out and we’ll see what, if anything, he’s willing to disclose." Clinton was also asked bout Colin Kaepernick and much more - LISTEN HERE

Fred Jacobs Offers Top Takeaways From Kevin Harlan's Epic Play-By Play Of Drunk Streaker
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2016 –– It's a story we're delighted to say won't go away, and now Jacobs Media Strategies' Fred Jacobs offers some top takeaways from Kevin Harlan’s Impromptu Play-By-Play Of A Drunk Football Fan that radio should take note. 'The fact we’re still talking about a late night radio broadcast of a football game four days later is something in and of itself,' says Jacobs. When something like this occurs during a sporting event, the procedure by the radio crew is to ignore it, deplore it, or simply talk about something else until the game resumes. On TV, they almost always tune away from the on-field disturbance, lament why fans can be such morons, and wait for the next snap of the ball. In fact, that’s exactly how ESPN handled this blooper moment for those watching the game on television. But Monday night, radio fans got a rare treat. Harlan – out of sheer boredom and recognition that this game was a dog – spontaneously went into an exciting, colorful play-by-play of the interruption, turning it into a moment of ironic entertainment."
Among Jacobs top takeaways: It was live. It was spontaneous. He saved a boring broadcast. He broke the rules. It was funny. It was a radio moment and it went viral (Read Jacobs' complete comments by clicking on the link below)
The live, real-time beauty of radio still makes for memorable, says Jacobs. "Surprising, and buzzworthy moments. Kudos to Kevin Harlan for the reminder. And he didn’t have to blow up a bunch of disco records or block traffic on a bridge to do it." READ COMPLETE BLOG HERE

[LISTEN] Jack Diamond Snags Interview With Hero School Bus Driver Who Saved 20 Kids
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2016 –– Another day, another scoop for radio. Cumulus Mix 103.7's Jack Diamond was able to find the woman centered around the #1 trending story in the country: Renita Smith, a bus driver for Prince George's County, who saved 20 elementary children off a fully engulfed, burning school bus. Washington DC's Mix 107.3 Jack Diamond Morning Show along with Jimmy Alexander and Erica Hilary, then spoke LIVE with Renita Smith on today's show.
Smith rescued the children one by one Monday afternoon as the bus she had been driving just moments before burst into flames. Then she got back on the bus to make sure that no child had been left behind. Smith told ABC that the terrifying incident began when the dashboard on the bus started beeping and then she detected smoke. Just as she was calling for a back-up vehicle, she saw the flames. “I put the mic back down, undid my seatbelt, jumped up, got my babies and got off,” she told ABC News today. “Once we got off, neighbors kicked right into ‘Mommy mode,’ as I call it, and helped the kids get to a safe haven. When that was going on, I ran back onto the bus to make sure there was no children on the bus. … By the time I got to the last step on the bus, it just went up in smoke.” Thick, black smoke and intense flames can be seen pouring from the bus on dash-cam footage released Monday by fire officials. [LISTEN] Greg & The Morning Buzz Scoop Exclusive Tom Bergeron Interview In Post Ryan Lochte DWTS Incident; Says Olympian 'Pretty Shaken Up About It - Helped Calm Him Down'
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2016 –– Greg and The Morning Buzz got a first hand account of the scary Dancing with The Stars/Ryan Lochte incident when long time friend Tom Bergeron called in to talk about it, immediately after his Good Morning America appearance. Bergeron and host Greg Kretschmar are good friends, since Tom worked at The Buzz’s flagship station, WHEB in Portsmouth NH. Tom told the Buzz that the protesters who rushed the stage didn’t seem to want any type of physical confrontation with Lochte, but the Olympian was pretty shaken up about it. Bergeron helped calm he and dancer Cheryl Burke down before returning from the commercial break. His consolation didn’t stop there, though. “Ryan’s Mom was backstage, and she was still crying, and very upset about it after the show was over, so I hugged her and tried to calm her down”, Bergeron said.
“That’s just what Tom does, he makes sure everyone else is OK. He thinks on his feet, and that’s what makes him such a great live TV host”, said Kretschmar. When Tom was asked if he ever felt threatened, and his response was “there really wasn’t enough time, because as soon as I realized what was happening, our security team had the guy on the floor. I just told them how thankful I was that they all work out so much!” The other protesters in the room, who had gotten in by waiting in line for tickets, revealed protest t shirts under their dress clothes, and left peacefully when dancer Derek Hough told them to “Get out!”. Bergeron likes to make unannounced drop-in visits whenever he is home. “He simply loves radio, and hopefully - he likes us a little bit too!” Says Kretschmar. Greg & The Morning Buzz is Greg Kretchmar, Laura, Roadkill, Kelly and Kayla. The Radio Button Network syndicates Greg & The Morning Buzz - information for Greg & The Morning Buzz can be accessed at MorningBuzzNetwork.com. LISTEN TO INTERVIEW HERE

The paper reports the Alpha Media outlet has started the traditon early in the past, but never in September.

Kinard will not say if a format switch is coming to the station that has been playing a variety of hot adult contemporary. That answer may be revealed at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Eddie Antar, Man Behind 'Crazy Eddie' Series, Dead At 68
Actual Star Of Ad Series Was New York Radio Host Jerry Carroll
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2016 –– Known along the east coast for his rapid-fire Crazy Eddie commercials that always ended with "insane!," chain founder Eddie Antar, aka Crazy Eddie, has passed away at 68. According to The New York Times, Antar, who was born on Dec. 18, 1947, grew his business from a single Brooklyn store, founded in 1969, into the largest consumer electronics chain in the New York metropolitan area, fueled in large part by the spread of the VCR. At its peak, the chain had 43 stores, with locations as far north as Boston and as far south as Philadelphia.
Crazy Eddie also became famous for a memorable series of commercials starring an exuberant, fast-talking man many falsely believed to be Mr. Antar himself. The actual star was a radio host named Jerry Carroll who performed in more than 7,500 radio and television commercials that ran for nearly 14 years, starting in 1975. The commercials always ended in the same way, with a signature touting of Crazy Eddie’s “in-s-a-a-a-a-ne” prices. At its peak, Crazy Eddie reported annual sales of more than $350 million. But that success was illusory writes nytimes. In 1987, dissident stockholders staged a takeover of the company. Within two weeks of the acquisition, they said they had discovered that $45 million in merchandise was missing. At the same time, federal prosecutors were building a case against Mr. Antar, charging that he had defrauded shareholders through stock manipulation. In a plea bargain, Eddie Antar pleaded guilty to one charge of racketeering conspiracy and served nearly seven years in federal prison.

Dawson McAllister Live Intervened In Over 1,000 Potential Suicides In August
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 20126 –– Benztown announced that its nationally syndicated weekly talk show Dawson McAllister Live (DMLive) intervened in over 1,000 potential suicides in the month of August through TheHopeLine, setting a record for successful suicide interventions by the organization in a single month. TheHopeLine is an off-air chat hotline created by DMLive host, internationally recognized youth communicator Dawson McAllister, where one-on-one conversations effect change in the lives of teenagers and young adults.
The volume of people effectively served by TheHopeLine is significant, given that September is National Suicide Prevention Month. DMLive is a three-hour weekly show heard on over 50 stations throughout the U.S. and Canada. The call-in talk show provides a forum where teenagers and young adults can talk about the problems they are facing, including: divorce, depression, cutting, suicide, drug addictions, eating disorders and family issues. McAllister began his national radio show in the early ‘90’s on various Christian radio stations. Starting with only five stations, DMLive grew to nationwide distribution, and in 1994 was voted National Religious Broadcaster’s Talk Show of the Year. Shortly after the start of DMLive on radio, it became clear that radio alone was not enough to meet the needs of young listeners. Compelled by the burgeoning needs of hurting young callers, McAllister created TheHopeLine and grew the show’s outreach through affiliations across mainstream radio. Today, TheHopeLine serves thousands each month, with the objective of helping people become released from despair by offering clear thinking and right values concerning the issues they are dealing with at the time.

Justin Bieber Apoligizes For Radio Performance; Pregnant Woman Trapped In Elevator Goes Live On Air
By Graham Mack
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 8TH, 2016 –– Justin Bieber has apologized to his fans after nerves got the better of him during a live performance on BBC Radio 1. Justin was the special guest in the Live Lounge from Los Angeles on Thursday but tweeted afterwards saying he was sorry: “I don’t usually get nervous but tonight I was thrown off and I was. Sorry about that. Really wanted to be my best.” The live music was performed during the Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw.
Radio Station Gives Away 27,643 Miracles - In Melbourne Australia, 89.9 LightFM’s Breakfast host, Lucy Holmes Bailey is part of the live broadcast team in Vietnam. 89.9 LightFM has helped 27,643 people regain their vision in some of the world’s poorest places. The campaign culminated in Miracles Day on Thursday where listeners rallied to provide the funds for cataract operations to restore the sight of some of the poorest people in the world.
Also In Melbourne Australia - Hamish Blake and Andy Lee called up an unsuspecting Melbourne man as part of a prank, they were expecting it all to end with a “GOTCHA!” and plenty of laughs. What the Hit Network’s Drive show didn’t bargain on was the “world’s best bloke” being on the other end of the line. The segment involved Hamish ringing 23-year-old electrician James Lord, under the alias “Tim Barnard” — a total stranger going for a job interview who needed a last-minute reference. It was promising from the beginning, with Lord telling Hamish, “Yeah sweet, I’ll just tell them that you’re a ripper bloke — I’ve got you covered.” Minutes later, Andy rang back, acting as “Graham Burn from Kells & Co.,” an accounting firm checking on “Tim’s” reference — effectively, testing out whether Lord will lie to help a stranger. Pregnant Woman Trapped In Elevator Goes Live On Air ! - On the breakfast show on BOBfm in England, Breakfast, Graham Mack (you know him, right?) and Chris Hubbard were talking about the story of a 4 year old who got a child's toilet seat stuck on his head. Graham asked for 'getting stuck' stories. Dean James called in and said at that very moment his daughter Nadine Evans-James was stuck in an elevator at Birch Court flats in Welwyn Garden City where she lives! Graham called Nadine and for the next two hours followed the drama live on BOB fm. Towards the end of the show Nadine revealed that she was 4 months pregnant with her first child. Star 94.1's Jeff And Jenn Show To Broadcast From Seacrest Studios As Jenn's 11-Month-Old Undergoes 2nd Round Of Chemo
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2016 –– Jenn Hobby of Star 94.1’s The Jeff & Jenn Show recently disclosed that her 11-month-old daughter, Reese, has been diagnosed with cancer. They have been enduring the brave fight with the incredible staff at the Aflac Cancer Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). One of the amenities at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston is Seacrest Studios Atlanta, gifted by the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. The original intent of the studio was to keep patients connected to the outside world and teach kids about the exciting world of radio and TV broadcasting during their stay at Children’s. However, Jenn and her co-host Jeff Dauler are grateful for the studio as now it will allow Jenn to stay connected to her audience as she and her husband, Grant, continue Reese’s battle to be cancer survivor.
This week, Reese returns to Children’s for her second round of chemotherapy. During the hospital stay, The Jeff & Jenn Show will broadcast live from 5:30-10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 and Friday, Sept. 9 from Seacrest Studios Atlanta so that Jenn only has to go downstairs to co-host the show and talk to Atlanta and her Star 94.1 family who are all inspired by Reese to beat pediatric cancer. Seacrest Studios Atlanta will be home to The Jeff & Jenn Show during the remaining treatments for Reese.
“This is truly a gift that will allow us to keep broadcasting, while I remain focused on my family and on Reese's treatment at Children’s." Meredith Seacrest, Executive Director and COO, Ryan Seacrest Foundation says, “We are honored that Jenn is able to utilize Seacrest Studios to continue to connect with her Atlanta audience while her daughter is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Steve Goldstein Takes A Spin With Apple's CarPlay
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2016 –– Amplifi's Steve Goldstein wanted to see how Apple's CarPlay really work with an iPhone? How complicated is it to setup? Do the AM/FM buttons go away? So, at the urging of Jacapps COO Bob Kernen, he went to a local Honda dealer and with their assistance hooked up his phone directly to a 2017 Honda Accord. Goldstein blogged, "It is an eye opener and a window to the not- too-distant future. After plugging the phone cable into the car’s USB port, the connection was seamless. It immediately took over the screen in the “center stack” and identified the CarPlay compatible apps on my phone and placed them on screen, 8 at a time."
The first screen automatically populates with Apple’s default apps including phone, maps, messaging, audio books, owned music, podcasts (nice..) plus a Honda button enabling a return to the car’s infotainment system. CarPlay is a stripped down version of IOS and relies heavily on Siri voice commands to keep the driver's eyes on the road and not the iPhone's tiny screen. It only displays approved apps that have been simplified and modified to work in a car. As you can see in the above photo taken by Goldstein, his his first app page included Pandora, iHeart, NPR One, Spotify, WMMR (developed by Jacapps), Audible, Tune-In and a few others.
Goldstein points out that Worldwide, a sobering 380 million-plus connected cars will be on the road by 2021. That's just 5 years from now. Not all will have CarPlay, but all will increase the ease of use of the audio options people have on their smartphones. My Honda salesman told me, above 40 years of age, most potential customers are confused. Under 40, connectivity is what sells cars. He was well versed and trained on the new systems. - READ COMPLET BLOG HERE

Vuolo Offers 911 Mini-Doc For 15th Anniversary
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2016 –– It's hard to believe this Sunday will mark the 15th anniversary of 911. Videographer Art Vuolo says, "When I produced my 13 minute mini-documentary on how Radio handled the tragic events of September 11th in 2001 (originally produced for the R&R Talk Radio Seminar in February of 2002), I had no idea how lasting its affect would be.
Vuolo suggests radio stations, regardless of format, should feel free to use any or all of this piece to commemorate the 15th anniversary of America's worst modern day tragedy. It works well, even without the video, but listeners can see it on YouTube by searching NYC Radio 9-11. It's FREE to download, my only request is to be given proper credit. WATCH HERE

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 –– The 16-year old daughter of syndicated host Joe 'Pags' Pagliarulo was found safe, some 1,200 miles away near Mexican border three days after being reported missing. This followed Pag's public plea on Friday night for help in finding her. Gabrielle 'Gabby' Pagliarulo, of Spring Branch, Texas (a suburb of Houston) was found near San Diego, California on Saturday with Christopher Lee Fretwell (R), 29, who was arrested for unlawful restraint, according to The Daily Mail. Pags took to the airwaves over the weekend saying “I am still sleepy. It’s been a very long night, but my daughter Gabby has been found. She is safe.” He added that his family was arranging travel to pick her up
Fretwell was arrested for unlawful restraint because he took a child out of the state without her parent's permission. Gabby was reported missing last Wednesday and was last seen with Fretwell in a 2011 Toyota Camry on Arizona's Interstate 40, police said. On Friday, Joe, who is broadcast on WOAI in San Antonio and KPRC in Houston, shared his worries on air, asking for people to keep their eyes peeled. He also wrote a post on Facebook that read: 'WE NEED her home. Gabby, we love you and miss you so much baby. Come home now.' Legendary Houston Host Jim Pruett Of Stevens & Pruett Show Passes Away At 72
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 –– Just weeks before the scheduled reunion of KLOL Programming, Promotions and Sales Staff on October 1st, we were saddened to learn of the death of Jim Pruett, the comic genius and half of the legendary 101 KLOL Stevens and Pruett morning team who died Friday, Sept 2, 2016 of heart failure. He was 72. Pruett, with his longtime broadcasting partner, Mark Stevens, helped define morning radio in their decades together. In interviews with Houston media blogger Mike McGuff, Pruett said, "In the early 70s, KLOL founding program director Pat Fant hired Pruett to work mornings on the newly signed on 101 KLOL.
In the early 80s, as an intense radio war waged between ABC’s 97 Rock KSRR and KLOL, GM Patrick Fant made the move to bring Mark Stevens and Pruett back to Houston. KLOL Promotions and Marketing Director Doug Harris tells Jockline, “Jim Pruett made my promotions job a breeze. Playfully creative, quick with quip or a comeback, and great with listeners. A good man, a brilliant talent, a devoted husband/father/grandfather, a warrior, a patriot, and loyal friend to man and beast. He actually was the guy his dog thought he was. We should all be so lucky”.
A public memorial for Jim Pruett is planned for Saturday, October 1st in Houston. It will coincide with a previously scheduled KLOL Reunion for the station’s staff, personalities, management and sales force. A GoFundMe campaign, expected to be finalized this week, will allow those who wish to do so contribute to The Stevens and Pruett Humane Ranch which connects “damaged” kids with “damaged” animals for the benefit of both. Pruett is survived by his wife Joy, his three sons Sam, Zac and Eric, daughter in law Kristina, and grandchildren Samantha, Piper and Zane. Co-Host Mark Stevens passed away in 2010.
'You Can't Possibly, Correctly Predict What's Going To Be The Next Big Thing Two Years From Now,' Says iHeart's Darren Davis
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2016 –– iHeartMedia has found growth both inside and outside of terrestrial radio, reports Adweek, but Darren Davis, president of iHeartMedia Networks and iHeartRadio warns, "You can't possibly correctly predict what's going to be the next big thing two years from now." Davis says their strategy has been, "don't guess, just go everywhere. … It's all about ubiquity for our broadcast brands. We want to make it as easy as possible to take away all the possible friction for people who want to access those brands."
Although other radio companies are "putting their tentacles" into various platforms, none of them have expanded into new areas as significantly as iHeartMedia has, said Mark Ramsey, president of consultancy Mark Ramsey Media. "They see that the world is bigger than radio, even if the radio is the biggest part of the world of audio," Ramsey said. "They're putting the pieces in place to try to be where the audience is, wherever it is.
Davis emphasized that he doesn't foresee a significant change in the company's business model in the near future. iHeart will continue to focus primarily on broadcast radio because the "lion's share" (two-thirds to three-fourths, depending on the season) of iHeartRadio usage remains people listening to live radio. Millenials Shifting From Blogs To Podcasts
THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2016 –– If you're still on the fence regarding podcasting, Molly Folse's article in this week's Ad Week may serve as yet another glimpse of the platform's growing viability. Folse explains how recent college grads are moving from blogs to podcast and says the timing couldn't be better for them to get in on the podcast craze. She points out that twenty-one percent of Americans age 12 or older say they have listened to a podcast in the past month. That's a 17% increase in the last year and a 75% increase since 2013.
"We've just seen phenomenal growth in podcasting," says Cristen Conger, host of the podcast Stuff Mom Never Told You. Conger and co-host Caroline Ervin have produced 800 episodes, and the show receives more than 1 million downloads per month. Conger says downloads have tripled since 2014. "Especially in the past year, we've recognized the mass potential of podcasts—there's high mobility, high engagement," Conger says. Podcasts pair well with shorter attention spans, allowing listeners to do other things while consuming content.
Podcasts also provide safe spaces for listeners to be alone with the content, says Folse, and points to Katie Roach (L), who started her Drunk (S)ex podcast a few years after graduating college. "As much as I deeply love writing, I felt like podcasting would bring out a certain charisma I could never achieve on paper," says Roach.
