Norway Now Reconsidering Casey Kasem Burial
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 21ST, 2014 –– After receiving a letter from Kasem's family and friends (JD 8.20) asking for the Norwegian government to deny Jean Kasem's request to bury Casey Kasem in Oslo, officials there are now consulting with legal advisers on their next course of action, a Norwegian government official told NBC News on Wednesday. Jean Kasem asked the Norway government to allow the burial in a letter in which she claimed she would be moving to Norway soon. She also said her husband "always said that Norway symbolizes peace and looks like heaven and I would like to respectfully fulfill his wishes." In letters to the Norwegian government, Kasem's relatives and friends — including his daughter, Kerri Kasem, and former Lieutenant Governor of California Mike Curb (shown with Kasem) stated the late DJ "always wanted to be buried in California," where he lived for 53 years. "We are looking at it once again to see if we made the right decision or not," said the city's Managing Director of Funeral Service Wenche Elizabeth Madsen Eriksson. said. "The relatives are saying she has no ancestry in Norway and they say that she’s not going to move to Norway at all. They also said she has not been visiting him and doesn’t care about him at all. We don't know if it's true. We need to talk to our lawyers to do more research." "Even if the reason (Jean) gave us wasn’t right, we don’t necessarily have to reject it," Eriksson said. "Casey Kasem can still be buried in Norway. But we must consider the whole situation. We have to decide who is right here, and we might need more information."

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 21ST, 2014 –– Jay Towers has been named as weekday morning anchor at WJBK-TV FOX 2 Detroit from 6-9 am. Towers posted on Facebook that he'll continue his morning show WNIC-FM 100.3, but broadcast from the FOX 2 studios. He anchor along with Anqunette Jamison. I can continue my morning radio show on 100.3….and, all from one place!” ########## One of radio's most creative personalities, who kept getting fired for his on-air antics, and burned through 17 jobs before landing at XM on August 21, 2000, is celebrating 14 years at the sat-caster, according to Art Vuolo. Former Governor Dirk Kempthrone of Idaho, who was also once Mayor of Boise and Secretary of the Interior during the Bush 43 years, is a big fan of the morning host on Sirius XM's Sixties on 6 channel. Radio's Best Friend, Art Vuolo, had video (imagine that) of Phlash at WKMZ in Martinsburg, WV and from B-106 in Fort Wayne, IN.
STUDY: Broadcast Radio Tops Pandora In Music Satisfaction
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 21ST, 2014 –– NuVoodoo Media Services has announced additional findings from its fourth and latest NuVoodoo Ratings Prospects Study. The company interviewed nearly 1100 respondents, ages 14-54, in all PPM markets to update NuVoodoo’s insights on the relationship between broadcast radio and the leading digital music provider, Pandora. The findings indicate that 62% of Pandora users listen to Pandora at least 30 minutes per day and nearly as many Pandora users spend that much time daily with broadcast radio. As Pandora experience increases, so does the percentage that listen to it at least 30 minutes. But the percentage spending at least that much time with broadcast radio did not decrease. It’s Pandora’s technology against radio’s research and decades of experience,” says NuVoodoo's Leigh Jacobs. “Our data show that Broadcast beats Pandora for music satisfaction – big among those who align themselves with rock-leaning formats,” continues Jacobs. Carolyn Gilbert (L), NuVoodoo President said: “Radio’s on a bigger stage than it’s been since the advent of TV, but it does a great job making great music programming easy for consumers. We’ve known for years that most people don’t want to program their own music or design their own cars, for that matter. They want to pick something that works for them and enjoy it.” Leigh Jacobs, Vice President, Research for NuVoodoo Media Services said: “We know that many Pandora listeners are also heavy users of broadcast radio, but we’re interested in whether those using Pandora begin to pull away from broadcast radio over time. These latest results validate our hypothesis that longer experience with Pandora doesn’t equate to less listening to broadcast radio. For more information, visit www.nuvoodoo.com.

Kiss Songs Banned By Triple M - 'We won't play this -ickhead's music Head of Triple M, Australia, Mike Fitzpatrick, has removed all Kiss tracks from Triple M's nationwide playlist. Fitzpatrick said on the Triple M website: "Gene Simmons' recent comments are misguided and insensitive. Depression and Suicide are not topics he should be using to further his notoriety or sell records. His desperation to use mental health issues to find relevancy in a modern age is sickening. I can only put it down to a brain fade on his part. The Triple M Network can’t and won’t be playing or supporting this -ickhead’s music. I put the challenge out to other stations across Australia and North America to also drop any of this nudnik's songs until such time as he reconsiders his thoughtless and insensitive position." The article explaining the ban reminds the Triple M audience that "Australia has a tragically high suicide rate, with suicide killing three times more Australian males aged between 15 and 45 than all car accidents combined. With the songs now removed from the playlist, Triple M announcers will not have to mention the name of the band that is also the name of a rival station in Sydney.

Late Tuesday Kerri Kasem posted in Facebook and Twitter 'My Dad's closest friends and family members have all band together to tell the people of Norway that my father wanted to be buried in his hometown of Los Angeles, California. Look at the signatures, they are my Dad's family and best friends from 30 to 64 years and his agent and friend of 48 years. The former Lt. In their letter, they wrote “We just wanted to set the record straight, regarding our father Casey Kasem. Casey wanted to be buried in his hometown of Los Angeles, California, his home for over 53 years.” It also claims that Jean “abandoned and isolated” Casey during the last year of his life in favor of her boyfriend, John Paul Gressy. They close by saying: “We beg you, to please decline the request of Jean Kasem and her daughter Liberty to bury Casey Kasem in Norway.” There was also a follow up with a letter from former Calif. Lt. Shortened Songs Format Cut Short In Canada As Artists Cry Foul
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 20TH, 2014 ––A radio station in Alberta has given up a format featuring shorter versions of songs which it said gave listeners “twice the music," according to globalnews.com. As Jockline Daily reported nearly three weeks ago, 90.3 Amp (CKMP) in Calgary, adopted the QuickHitz concept. Newcap became the first station in Canada to attempt the format, but Steve Jones (L), VP/Programming, says the station went back to its original format Tuesday. Jones told globalnews.com: “As we evaluated it, we made the decision that this week we would just go back to the old strategy because to do this successfully would involve far too many lawyers getting far too rich.” Jones wouldn’t name which artists threatened legal action except to say they were mostly Canadian. "It just came to a point where we said it isn’t worth risking the relationships with all of our content providers, the various artists that we play, at our radio station.” Of course, the concept isn't entirely off the table. Jones says 'Our plan is to go back to the drawing board, maybe work a bit closer with some of the various stakeholders in the industry and try and bring this back at a later date.”

WOGL/Philly's Ross Brittain Crosses 40-Yr. Mark On The Air
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 20TH, 2014 –– One of radio's most revered personalities, WOGL-FM/Philly's Ross Brittain, has crossed one of the industry's rare plateaus: 40 years on the air. As one of the orignal cast members of the much celebrated Z100/NYC's, Jockline Daily caught up with Brittain to share a few memories of long radio journey. He told us at 23 years old he landed a job at WIIN-97 Atlanta, a 5-KW daytime-only AM station that Hugh Wilson modeled "WKRP in Cincinnati" after. The morning DJ was a guy named Bobby Harper, whom they modeled Johnny Fever after. They flipped formats to "Progressive Rock"... and one day he found out they were looking for a DJ, so I went over. The PD had heard me on the college station doing a weekend show. I said, "I could do mid-days." He said, "What about mornings -- your weekend show was kind of crazy." Ross later moved to New Orleans and then Baton Rouge. Their afternoon guy there went across the street to WJBO-AM, where a guy named Brian Wilson was working, and he thought he'd team us up. They soon left for Z-93/Atlanta, then hired away by WABC /NYC. In 1981 Z100 was in the process of going on the air. A guy named Scott Shannon was the PD. Ross went over thinking he might get the PM drive slot that had opened up. Scott said something to the effect of, "You're not an afternoon jock. Why don't you do mornings with me?" Ross said 'I found out later he used to tape my show in Atlanta (like he did with countless other shows during his long career). Once there he joined with John Rio (Mr Leonard) and Dr Dave Kolin writing bits and then we'd go produce them with J. R. Nelson, the production director. John Bell... the public service director, also did some writing with us.' And what does he consider the highlight of the last 40 years? "That would be meeting my wife, Rasa Kaye (shown above)," he said. When we began at WABC, we already had Joe Nolan (who's back working with Scott at WCBS-FM) to do traffic. But we needed a weather person as well, and we went through a pile of tapes looking for someone. We chose Rasa out of those tapes. We didn't start dating for a while, but then it was hot and heavy and we decided to get married. and tied the knot in February, 1982. But we couldn't tell anybody, because it was against ABC policy to be married and work for the same supervisor. So everybody thought we were living together --and that was OK. But married, oh, no! Ross has also just crossed the 20-year mark of his prep service, "The Ross Brittain Report." PHOTO/Brittain BTW, Dee Snyder used to work across the hall when he did mornings at KISS 95.7 in Hartford. Dee did mornings at WMRQ-FM. BTW: Notice arrow pointed at quarter on top of turntable arm in vintage studio photo. CONGRATULATE ROSS HERE

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 19TH, 2014 –– Amid the chaos and in Ferguson, MO. A woman claiming to be a friend of the officer involved in the shooting of Ferguson’s Mike Brown called into 97.1/KTLK's Dana Loesch (inset) show and offered officer Darren Wilson’s alleged side of the story. Adam Carolla Settles With Patent Troll
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 19TH, 2014 –– Adam Carolla has settled with the podcasting patent troll Personal Audio according to eff.org, the Electronics Frontier Foundation. They posted opposing scenarios resulting from the case opining that Carolla perhaps didn't have to pay Personal Audio a penny. That said, they also believe Carolla gave up the opportunity to challenge the patent and the chance to get his attorney’s fees. Meanwhile, EFF’s own challenge with Personal Audio’s that goes before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the Patent Office is scheduled for a hearing in December. With the Carolla matter behind them, Personal Audio is also scheduled to go to trial against a number of television groups such as NBC, CBS, and Fox. As for the good Carolla's closure brought, EFF says that 'everyone who donated in support deserves massive credit for putting up such a strong fight. The podcasting community showed that it would not be shaken down ... By fighting back, Carolla forced Personal Audio to actually mount a case and establish that it deserved money. That turned out to be too hard for the troll. Moving to the down side of settling, Carolla gives up the chance to make Personal Audio pay his fees. Even uglier, EFF says "Almost every defendant, no matter how strong their case, ends up settling with the patent troll. Litigating patent cases is extraordinarily expensive. Carolla raised almost half a million dollars and that still would not have been enough to fund a defense through trial. READ ENTIRE REPORT HERE

KISS Ban Mounts In Wake Of Gene Simmon's Suicide Comments
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 18TH, 2014 –– First came Sixx Sense' Nikki Sixx calling out (see JD 8.15) colleague Gene Simmons over his insensitive comments regarding suicide and depression in songfacts.com, now the backlash has extended to radio. According to blabbermouth.comAustralian broadcaster Triple M has pulled all KISS tracks from its playlists countrywide. Over at WPYX/Albany NY, host Uncle Vito vowed not to play KISS music, labeling Simmons “an arrogant, unfeeling a—hole.” Power 97 Winnepeg also joined in with its Kiss Free Zone (shown). Simmons has SINCE responded to all this backlash on his Facebook page with the following message: "I want to make this statement about my views on depression for the record and to clarify my prior remarks. To the extent my comments reported by the media speak of depression, I was wrong and in the spur of the moment made remarks that in hindsight were made without regard for those who truly suffer the struggles of depression. I sincerely apologize to those who were offended by my comments. I recognize that depression is very serious and very sad when it happens to anyone, especially loved ones. I deeply support and am empathetic to anyone suffering from any disease, especially depression. have never sugarcoated my feelings regarding drug use and alcoholics. Somewhere along the line, my intention of speaking in very directly and perhaps politically incorrectly about drug use and alcoholics has been misconstrued as vile commentary on depression. Unkind statements about depression was certainly never my intention. Fully, you will know that and I do not intend to defend myself here and now, by listing the myriad charities and self-help organizations I am involved with. Rather, I simply want to be clear that my heart goes out to anyone suffering from depression and I deeply regret any offhand remarks in the heat of an interview that might have suggested otherwise.' Among Simmon's comments in songfacts.com, he said: "I'm the guy who says 'Jump!' when there's a guy on top of a building who says, 'That's it, I can't take it anymore, I'm going to jump .. Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the f--- up, have some dignity and jump!" Simmons Photo/Oscar Schnell
'There... I've Said It.' Robin Marshall Reveals She Has Cancer
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 18TH, 2014 –– The popular voice-over specialist, recently turned author revealed on her Facebook page today "last week ending in D-Day on Friday when the bomb was dropped in my lap: I have stage 2 uterine cancer and need a hysterectomy. In my brain I’m thinking, "Those are all my good parts! How could they turn on me NOW?” It’s like I want to have a good "talkin’ to,” with myself. With this news, I shook, as people do when they’re in shock, I asked the doctor to explain it to me, which she did… and after finishing her spiel consisting of medical lingo, tumors, numbers and parts I didn’t even know I had… she asked if I understood. I said, "F*** No! I need to call my girlfriend who’s currently a chief radiologist at Sloan Kettering in NY and let you tell her so she can tell me!” She continued by drawing me pictures of my insides, where I calmly began pushing numbers on my cell phone until Arlene answered. I interrupted the fast-talking doc and said, "Here, tell her everything.” She did! I’ve decided that I’ve always been forthcoming here on Facebook and Twitter and it is ridiculous for me to continue to hide what I’m facing, while at the same time I’m the LAST ONE to look for sympathy! Holy Cow! I just released this book: "The Diary of a Sugar Mom!” I’m already thinking, …”Hmmm… if I Die… I might sell more books and my Kids will be better off!” It’s the entrepreneur in me, I just can’t help it!" She closes by added: So here I am… a Sugar Mom who just got (B)itch-slapped in the face by a huge hand of reality. I’m assuming I overstepped, (what else is new?) and this is just God’s way of putting me back in my place or just slowing my (a)ss down a bit until she can catch up. I get it. I’ll be good. I promise! Please, no fake comments. I shared with you because I want you to go to the doctor if you feel something’s wrong or out of whack ... Any conversations we have via email are private. Period. Robin@RobinMarshallSugarMom.com.

ABC's Ann Compton To Retire In September
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 18TH, 2014 –– ABC Radio News VP/GM Steve Jones sent the following note to its radio division last Friday about ABC News White House Correspondent, Ann Compton: "Last winter, Ann Compton raised a subject she’s hinted at before and that I’d previously managed to avoid: her retirement. She told me how amazing it was being a new grandmother and suggested that, after 40-years at ABC News, perhaps it was time to transition to the next phase of her life. I listened, smiled and told her we’d chat again, hoping she’d change her mind. But, by the spring, it was clear to me that Ann was ready to leave the job she has loved so that she can spend more time with the people she loves: her wonderful family. We have a date set in late September for us to celebrate Ann’s career in a setting that will let her friends and co-workers offer tributes and recollections about one of the most amazing women in journalism and one of the greatest friends and colleagues I have had the pleasure to work with. For now, though, Ann has asked that she be allowed to continue reporting from the White House without distraction. We’ll have plenty of time next month to celebrate her career express our admiration, appreciation and love."

REPORT: Casey Kasem To Be Buried in Norway
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 15TH, 2014 –– As Jockline reporter earlier this week (JD 8.12), the body of Casey Kasem was allegedly being moved out of the country for his burial. Now, according to Norwegian newspaper VG, a private investigator, Logan Clarke, hired by Kasem's daughter Kerri told The Hollywood Reporter, "He's going to be buried in Norway." In the Norwegian press account, Wenche Madsen Eriksson, a government official, was quoted by reporter Marcus Husby saying, "It is arranged. He's going to Oslo." The report said the official would not specify which of Oslo's 20 cemeteries and one crematorium was chosen by Kasem's widow, Jean Kasem. This final destination would end one of media's most troubling and tragic episodes which goes back several month to when Casey's older Children picketed outside of his Santa Monica estate. "We don't know what [Jean Kasem's] plans are," says Danny Deraney, spokesman for Kerri Kasem. "We just know that she wants to keep Casey away from [his] family and friends and by the looks of it, hiding from law enforcement." Family members tell THR that the feud between Jean Kasem and her husband's family has gone on for 35 years. An investigation by Santa Monica Police is still underway with allegations that Jean Kasem abused the late Kasem after removing his in the middle of the night from a Santa Monica hospital to Las Vegas and then to Washington State.
[LISTEN] Nikki Sixx Calls Out Gene Simmons Over Suicide Comments
"He thinks everybody listens to him, that he is the god of thunder. He will tell you he is the greatest man on earth, and to be honest with you, I like Gene. But in this situation, I don’t like Gene.." - Sixx
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 15TH, 2014 –– This week on Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx, Sixx and co-host Jenn Marino discussed KISS frontman Gene Simmons’ recent interview with SongFacts.com, in which he expressed his lack of sympathy for people suffering from substance abuse and depression. Sixx, a recovering addict who suffered a near fatal drug overdose more than 25 years ago, called out Simmons for his insensitive remarks, which included the suggestion that depressed people should kill themselves. Sixx: “…It’s pretty moronic because he thinks everybody listens to him, that he is the god of thunder. He will tell you he is the greatest man on earth, and to be honest with you, I like Gene. But in this situation, I don’t like Gene, I don’t like Gene’s words, because…there is a 20-year-old kid out there who is a KISS fan and reads this and goes, ‘You know what? He’s right. I should just kill myself’…” Sixx continued: “…For people who are depressed, there is a way out. There are many, many ways out. And I don’t want people to listen to an interview from a rock star, who’s telling you the only way out is out, when I’m telling you, and I wrote it in The Heroin Diaries, you can get out of this. ...One in 10 Americans are affected by depression at one point in their life, so this is another thing to think about. At one point in your life, meaning it will come and it will go…they say all bad things must pass, all bad things will pass, so keep that in the back of your mind if you’re feeling depression, and don’t listen to people who don’ t know what they’re talking about.” LISTEN HERE

[LISTEN] Host's Comments Helps Divert Listener From Considering Suicide
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2014 –– A caller to yesterday's syndicated Michael Savage show who weighed in on the host's assertion that suicide is an “aggressive act” that shows no consideration for loved ones, told the host his frank talk about the subject helped him decide not to take his own life. Identifying himself as Joe he told Savage he had been contemplating suicide for the past several months, especially in the past week. Joe said that when he heard of Williams’ suicide, he asked himself, “If a guy like that could, why not me?” On Tuesday's show, Savage, who disclosed he and Williams lived in the same San Francisco-area neighborhood, urged any listeners who might be considering suicide to think about how it would affect their loved ones. Joe rang up Savage and said: 'Your show yesterday – I’m not going to say prevented me – but it did make me think about my kids and my wife,” the caller said. Savage said he had met Williams many times when the two were walking their dogs. Savage described Williams as “a nice guy, and genuinely funny, too.” He added “Committing suicide is the most outrageously aggressive and selfish act you can commit against your family,” Savage said. After discovering Joe was suffering financially, he asked his audience to join in helping Joe get through the rest of the month by donating through the Savage Legal Defense Fund. LISTEN HERE

JACOBS: 'BJ Shea Steps Up To Superstar Status At MSBC Chicago'
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2014 –– As we've always said, it's not us, but our attendees who help us shine most at Morning Show Boot Camp. This was never more evident than during last week's 26th Annual Morning Show Boot Camp in Chicago. Among them, radio's beloved BJ Shea (L - KISW/Seattle) whose opening address not only endeared himself further with his radio comrades, but caught the attention of radio furturist Fred Jacobs. In today's blog, he writes 'You may be thinking that it’s “Seattle DJ Week” on this blog – and you wouldn’t be wrong. But it turns out the most fascinating stories in radio last week weren’t about the whereabouts of Casey Kasem’s corpse or what happened to radio’s Q2 revenue – they were about Bob Rivers hanging up his headphones and B.J. Shea stepping up to superstar status at “Morning Show Boot Camp.” Boot Camp is one of the most unique events in all of radio because most of the people in attendance make their living on the air. If you believe that the future (not to mention the past and present) of radio is its personality – the people behind the mics – then you would enjoy Boot Camp. There is a different vibe in the room when it’s filled with performers – the folks who are paid to entertain and to inform. They are the faces of most great stations. And the list of radio icons in attendance was a long one: The Bert Show, Paul Castronovo, Roula And Ryan, Rick Rumble, Dave & Carole, Mark & Mercedes, Ross Britain, 2 Guys Named Chris, Larry Norton, Brother Wease, Fitz, Phil Hendrie, and many many more. These personalities come together every year to compare notes, compete for the best bits, have a lot of laughs, and hang out at a conference that almost has a radio throwback feel to it. Yes, radio has changed. It’s a business that is obsessed by ROI, IPOs, and EBITDA. But let’s not forget the DJ. No matter how much Wall Street thinks it has us bought and sold, drawn and quartered, radio is a circus. And the Big Top was in all its glory in Chicago last week. And B.J. Shea was the ringmaster ... B.J. truly set the tone at Boot Camp. In a 30-minute speech filled with passion and inspired self-deprecation, B.J. looked more like he was giving a TED Talks presentation than one of his signature rants. Crowd Buys Into Miley Cyrus Impersonator Outside Concert
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2014 –– Imagine bringing a Miley Cyrus impersonator (complete with bodyguards) outside one of the pop diva's concerts and both fans and local media buying into it? This was the case as Miley Cyrus came back to Kansas City and 95.7 The Vibe (KCHZ) made their presence known outside of the Sprint Center! They brought in a Miley Cyrus impersonator and had the crowd going crazy, with many people believing it was Miley and stopping to get their pictures taken (the staff was calling her "our special guest"). KCTV5 even did a live segment featuring 95.7 (inset)The Vibe outside of the Sprint Center. During the show the excitement continued with Miley Cyrus spotting our impersonator in the crowd, talking to her from the stage and even giving 95.7 The Vibe props before showing a picture of our Miley impersonator on the big screen! Since the concert The Kansas City Star also wrote a story about 95.7 The Vibe bringing in their very own Miley Cyrus look-alike. The night was a big win for everyone involved! NICELY DONE! Montreal Host Looks For Girlfriend With Posters
By Graham Mack
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2014 –– Radio personality Stuntman Sam is looking for love in a rather old-fashioned way: posters. According to montrealgazzette, Sam Lupovich, a.k.a. Stuntman Sam on The Beat 92.5 FM’s morning show, has posted handbills all over downtown Montreal to announce he’s looking for a girlfriend. The poster features a picture of the 31-year-old with a description of himself as serious, fun, outgoing, employed and very handsome. As the setup goes, after a decade of freelance fun and adventure in Toronto, Sam moved back to his beloved hometown of Montreal last fall — and has since had some trouble finding a girlfriend. “I’ve tried online dating and all that jazz, but obviously that hasn’t worked out …” his poster reads. “Pretty sure it’s them, not me .. If you’re single (or not), and ready to take a chance on a good guy willing to throw himself out there, take my number and do something about it.” If you want to see how Sam's doing, give him a call on 514 798-2015.
BOB FM becomes “Robin FM” in Robin Williams Tribute –– BOB fm in London’s Home Counties paid tribute to the late Robin Williams on Tuesday by re-branding as “Robin fm”. The daytime music schedule was interspersed with clips of Robin’s performance as the radio DJ Adrian Cronauer from the 1987 film, “Good Morning Vietnam”. Special sweepers were made that said, “Robin FM”. Program Director Graham Mack said, “We all grew up watching Robin’s movies and he always got a warm reception every time he appeared in London. It was the least we could do to honour the life and work of one of the greatest entertainers of all time”.
Another BBC apology, This Time For Racism -- It was an awkward on-air moment when Iain Lee’s producer decided he’d had enough and walked-out mid-show. Iain took the gag too far by telling him to “...go and do the Black and Asian Show”. Iain and the BBC have apologised for the incident which happened on Iain Lee’s Breakfast show on BBC Three Counties. The show and the radio station have shown another ratings drop in the latest survey leading some commentators to speculate that the on-air argument was a pre-planned if poorly executed stunt. Mismatched couple get married The couple who won the ‘Punching Above Your Weight’ contest on Newcastle’s Metro FM earlier this year have tied the knot. Darren Donaghey and Kate Cathcart often turn heads when walking down the street together. Kate is a gorgeous blonde, but because Darren is, by his own admission, not a work of art. Their love for one another never faltered and the pair have silenced detractors by getting hitched at Matfen Hall in Northumberland. STUDY: Radio Keeping Pace With Pandora's Listener Growth
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 14TH, 2014 –– NuVoodoo Media Services has announced its initial findings from its fourth and latest NuVoodoo Ratings Prospects Study. Per the graph at right, as Pandora experience increases, so does the percentage that listen to it at least 30 minutes. But the percentage spending at least that much time with broadcast radio did not decrease. Carolyn Gilbert, President and Chief Executive Officer for NuVoodoo Media Services said: “NuVoodoo is committed to understanding our industry, the radio listener and especially the potential ratings participant. It’s our job to take this information, synthesize it and continue our mission to provide the industry with cutting-edge products that respond to the world as it is in 2014.” NuVoodoo will be releasing more of the study’s key findings over the coming weeks, including which social media platforms are getting user traction and which ones are seeing user declines. Seacrest Notches Scripted Deal With CBS TV Studios
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 13TH, 2014 –– We felt the term 'notch' was an appropriate verb in relation to media behemoth, Ryan Seacrest who now, among his other mounting responsibilities, has closed an overall two-year scripted deal with CBS Television Studios. According to The Wrap, Ryan Seacrest Productions (RSP) will develop scripted projects for broadcast, cable and streaming under programming executive vice president Nina Wass. Current scripted projects include the Jennifer Lopez drama “Shades of Blue” at NBC, a drama in development with rapper Pitbull, and two ABC comedies. As for unscripted programming, RSP will continue to provide and sell projects across networks. It has a strong body of unscripted programming ranging from E!'s “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and its spinoffs, Bravo's “Shahs of Sunset” and Esquire Network's “How I Rock It.” This latest deal with CBS TV Studios joins a few others for Ryan Seacrest and his production company, including CBS’ live two-hour special “Fashion Rocks,” a one-year deal with NBC for specials and contributions to E! and NBC. Oh yes, in addition to Fox's “American Idol” and ABC's “New Year's Rockin’ Eve,” he also host a daily morning show on KIIS-FM L.A.
JACOBS BLOG: Deja Vu All Over Again For Bob Rivers
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 13TH, 2014 –– Jacobs Media's Fred Jacobs quips: 'What started out as a blog...' became quite an in depth look at the life and times of Seattle morning star Bob Rivers who recently announced his retirement. In an expansive 2 part interview, Jacob's writes: 'Bob’s career exemplifies all those old school values – hard work, a belief in the team, a commitment to the community, and an understanding of what’s important' says Jacobs. He adds, 'It’s not the first time. Way back in the day, Bob walked away from WFTQ in Worcester, MA, to join a band called Legend, only to return to WAAF where his radio career got underway in 1981. So maybe Bob’s departure from Seattle radio last week is déjà vu all over again.' As for Bob's start, he tells Jacobs: 'I’ve always wanted to be a musician. When I was 5 years-old, my grandfather gave me a transistor radio and an unlimited supply of batteries. He also taught me how to use the phone. I loved hit records and DJs right away, go figure. I started calling request lines and even won a contest! I was on the air live at 5 years-old. Like many, I got into radio partly to be closer to the music scene. I took a few piano lessons in grade school, and tried to play in a band when I was about 21, but I did suck. Radio was my first love, and musicians need to get their 10,000 hours of practice. So making song parodies for my morning show was a way for me to meet and hire great musicians and record and produce perfect copies of hit records. Truthfully, that was my motivation for recording them so authentically. I could have a radio product that was better than anyone else, and follow my other passion: music.' As for his departure from radio, Bob says: 'I love radio. And I never said I was retiring, but I knew the media would. I’m sure I will do more radio. Someday.' (Bob shown right with Spike O'Neill circa 80's). [WATCH] Radio's Special Memories Of Robin Williams
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 12TH, 2014 –– Radio, like the rest of the world, as long treasured the comedic genius of Robin Williams. But 1987's film 'Good Morning Vietnam' endeared us even more as the actor took his wit and talent behind the mic to entertain the troops in Vietnam as Airman Second Class Adrian Conquer. The character was based on a real-life host and his epic battles with his radio boss, Bruno Kirby who played Second Lieutenant Steven Hauk, brought added joy to those behind the mic. Yesterday, when news first broke of William's death, many of us first thought, or wanted to believe, it was a hoax. Sadly, it turned out to be true and radio hosts and others quickly took to social media to express their sadness. Among the many included Dom Theodore - VP/Prog. for The Blaze. He posted: 'The loss of Robin Williams goes to show that you never know what someone is going through on the inside. You have no idea what "stuff" someone else is facing even if they hide it behind a warm smile and charismatic personality.... ' Q102/Cincinnati's Jeff Thomas: 'Depression tortures so many, including a startling number of our most brilliant. Prayers for Robin Williams' family and those still suffering.' Austin's JB, of JB & Sandy wrote: 'One of the most intimidating, wonderful moments of my career. Sandy and I hosting a live auction with Lance Armstrong and Robin stormed the stage and elevated everything beyond belief for half an hour. You never know when someone is in a horrible amount of pain on the inside. RIP Robin. You sure made my life a whole lot better many, many times.' WSTR/Atlanta's Jimmy Alexander posted 'People often ask me who is the nicest celebrity I've ever met...my answer is Robin Williams. Unbelievable that a man who brought so much happiness and laughter to people was fighting so many demons..' Jeff Mauler of Hot 89.9 Ottawa along with Rush & Jennie went LIVE last night upon learning the news. He wrote: 'taking hundreds of calls about the passing of Robin Williams. The callers' stories and thoughts are incredible about this incredible man. --- I'm absolutely speechless ... The world got a whole lot less funny today. RIP Robin Williams.' CCM+E's Jon Seller linked one of TV's greatest moments as Robin paid a special visit to Johnny Carson's last show on 5.21.14 WATCH HERE
[WATCH] The Real Adrian Cronauer On Robin Williams
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 12TH, 2014 –– Robin Williams made the words, “Good morning Vietnam” famous in the movie, but it was an actual radio host from Roanoke who first aired the words on AFN. This was Adrian Cronauer (R), now 75 years old. But in 1965 and 1966 he was a jock for the the armed services in Saigon. He tells WSLS TV, He thought the troops needed a lift and modeled his radio show after a successful morning radio host in Pittsburgh named Rege Cordic (L). When the TV series M.A.S.H. became popular, he thought there might be a way to make a funny movie or TV series about life in Vietnam – even though people told him Vietnam could, as he told me, “not be funny.” He kept at his concept under wraps until William's 'people' bought the rights. “They changed everything, but they made my movie,” Cronauer told WSLS just wo hours after learning of William's apparent suicide. “He was always on. You never saw the real Robin Williams,” he said. He added the two of them didn't meet person-to-person until the movie's premier. “If he had met me he would have started to impersonate me, and they didn't want that,” said Cronauer. “Besides—Williams was way funnier, and a lot of what he said in the movie – I could have never said.” WATCH HERE

Kurt Hanson Becomes Jacobs Media's First 'Most Innovative' Friday Pick
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 12TH, 2014 –– Jacobs Media's Fred Jacobs says "Our new initiative to highlight innovations and innovators in and around the radio business debuted last Friday on what will be the first of many “Innovation Fridays. Our first choice was a no-brainer. Kurt Hanson (R) is synonymous with innovation in our industry. He’s been inventing and reinventing for years, and we’re pleased to honor him in our “Radio’s Most Innovative” effort. Mike Stern wrote this piece and will be a regular contributor on “Innovation Fridays.” Congratulations, Kurt, and as you’ve reminded us at several RAIN Summits, “Things are moving faster than we think.” – FJ In 1999, cellphones didn’t have cameras, texting was brand new, and the first iPods were two years away. Yet, while the world was concerned about Y2K, Kurt Hanson launched RAIN: Radio And Internet Newsletter — the first publication devoted to the world of streaming audio. Then, to further illustrate his commitment to this new space, the following summer he began building AccuRadio, a multi-channel online music streaming service that now reaches nearly a million unique listeners monthly. The launch of those two innovative businesses weren’t the first time Hanson had struck out on his own. Twenty years earlier he founded Strategic Media Research, a respected market research firm that even challenged Arbitron with its AccuRatings product. Today, Kurt is considered one of the leading experts in the field of new delivery mechanisms for audio, and RAIN has brand extended to include conferences – RAIN Summit.

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 11TH, 2014 –– For the third time in as many weeks, ESPN has suspended another host. This time it's Max Kellerman who gets sidelined for a week after he revealed on his L.A. radio show that he once hit his then-girlfriend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they suspended Kellerman after he admitted on his show that he hit his then-girlfriend, Erin, several years ago. Max and Erin have now been married for 20 years. In a statement to THR, the network said "Max Kellerman will return to ESPNLA Radio and SportsNation on Thursday." Max explained that he and Erin were at a college party and were drunk at the time. He said Erin slapped him, and so he slapped her back. Kellerman becomes the third ESPN host to be suspended in the past two weeks. Stephen A. Smith landed a week-long suspension on July 29 after making comments about NFL player Ray Rice's suspension for assaulting his girlfriend. Last week, Dan Le Batard received a two-day suspension for putting up a Miami billboard mocking NBA star LeBron James.
The Bert Show Takes Honors In Inaugural 'Kraddick Award'
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 11TH, 2014 –– Following last year's untimely death of radio legend, Kidd Kraddick, MSBC host Don Anthony promised 2013 attendees (which took place literally days following Kidd's passing) that beginning this year an award named in Kidd's honor would be created. With the blessing of Kidd's daughter, Caroline, MSBC began accepting nominees early this year. "Guidelines were set," says Anthony. 'Attributes included 'originality', 'overall success', 'contributions to the public both on and off the air', as well as someone who serves as an inspiration to their colleagues." Along with a group of advisors, a finalist was then chosen. "Our final question was 'who would Kidd have likely picked to receive this first award? Given Bert's long association and friendship with Kidd, plus the success of his highly touted 'Bert's Big Adventure,' The Bert Show was finally picked as the award's first recipient." As with Anthony's other event, TSBC, this award's concept will be modeled after the 'Ashwood Award' named in honor of the late Andrew Ashwood. As with this award, the recipient of next year's Kidd Kraddick Award will be selected by The Bert Show. "Choosing our first recipient,' says Anthony, was by far the toughest thing I have ever experienced. Most of our nominees were shows and personalities whom I know and care about deeply. So, this was far from easy. But now that we have our first selection, the process is set and , hopefully, will remain in place for many years to come." MSBC 26: Personality Remains The Lifeblood Of Radio
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 11TH, 2014 –– Credit for our headline goes to Rich Berra of The Premiere Syndicated Johnjay and Rich show who commented on MSBC 26 saying: 'The brotherhood of radio is alive and well and maybe never more important as PERSONALITY is the LIFEBLOOD of broadcasting." This was just one of many: "It's not the end. It's the beginning of our new beginning,' said Phil Becker, Alpha's VP/Programming. Consultant Tracy Johnson who was also one of this year's featured speakers, created a full list of takeaways from this year's event which you can see at his blog HERE. Among his takeaways BJ Shea: "Performers love to perform. It’s not how much you get paid. It’s not about whether you’re the lead or a sidekick. And it doesn't matter the platform. Performing is what we do." Drew Horowitz, CEO Hubbard Broadcasting offers advice for talent to be successful moving forward: "Work hard. Dedicate yourself. Be authentic." Pat Paxton, VP/Programming Entercom: "Step up and stop making excuses. Take responsibility for your career and quit making excuses. Be thankful for what you do for a living. You're not operating a jackhammer in 100 degree heat by the side of the road." Jimmy DeCastro, VP/GM WGN Radio/Chicago: "You finally make it to the job you always wanted-morning, and now you show up 15 minutes before your show, and the door hits you in the (a)ss 9 minutes after. That's ridiculous. It's not a 6-10am job. Be around. That's how you're going to grow. And if you're not growing, you're standing still."Mike McVay, Cumulus Media: "If parameters (limits) are defined by what you can't do on the air, talent will stop trying to do anything." "The secret SAUCE of bootcamp is beyond the sessions. It’s the connections you get by talking before and after sessions to shows you didn’t know share your DNA. The increase resulted from increases of $44.1 million, $7.0 million, $2.7 million and $4.1 million in broadcast advertising, digital advertising, political advertising and license fees and other revenue, respectively. These increases were primarily attributable to the addition of the operations of WestwoodOne, which was acquired by the Company in December 2013. Pandora Cuts Direct Licensing Deal With Artists
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 6TH, 2014 –– AP reports that Pandora has cut a direct licensing deal with artists, including independent label group Merlin that both said would mean higher payments to artists and more play for them on Pandora stations. This means artists such as Arcade Fire, Bad Religion and Lenny Kravitz could get more rotations as their representatives will be able to lobby Pandora to place their songs higher in playlists where they fit. Artists also get access to Pandora data for the first time, enabling them to make informed decisions about where to tour, who to tour with, what their concert set list should be and what songs they might release next. They will also have tools to directly communicate with fans on Pandora. Artists had complained that royalties on digital streaming services are too low. This represents a departure from its current business model, where it relies on government rate-setting bodies like the Copyright Royalty Board to determine how much it pays artists. The arrangement covers royalties for performances, not songwriting rights, and it comes as the Department of Justice is re-examining Pandora's right to automatically license song rights from publishing groups.

REPORT: Beyonce's Leotards In, Alan Freed's Ashes Out At Rock Hall
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 5TH, 2014 –– As Jockline Daily reported yesterday, Lance Freed, son the legendary Alan Freed, The man who is credited with coining the term "rock 'n' roll," said the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame wanted his father's cremains removed from public view. Now comes word from cnn.com that they'll be moved next Monday. The urn which had been on display since 2002 were removed from public view last Friday, but now Lance will be picking up the ashes to move to another location. Freed, who was inducted into the hall in 1986, will be honored instead with a display of his microphones, which the museum considers a more appropriate nod to his career as a broadcaster. Harris disputed the Freed family's description of the removal as an eviction, but according to the son, it is not a voluntary removal. Freed's ashes are being moved just days after the museum opened a Beyonce exhibit featuring the singer's costumes, including the black leotards worn in her 2008 "Single Ladies" video. On the radio in Cleveland and then New York in the 1950s, Freed was a champion of early rock 'n' roll and the promotion AND also hosted an event thought of as the first major rock concert, the Moondog Coronation Ball (R), in Cleveland in 1952. Freed's connections to Cleveland were one reason why the hall was located there in the first place. "TheRock and Roll Hall of Fame is not a mausoleum," programmer Jon Gorman told member station WKSU. "What are we going to do, have the ashes of all the great rock stars that chose to be cremated? It just doesn't belong. It just doesn't fit." Freed's family is now seeking an appropriate final resting place in Cleveland. "I'm a little bit emotional right now, because this is the third time I'm moving my dad," Lance Freed told CNN. "But hopefully it will be the last."
REPORT: Pandora Eyeing Talk Radio For Cars
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 5TH, 2014 –– Pandora Media Inc. is considering expanding its programming beyond music to formats such as sports, news and talk as the service becomes more available in cars and can attract listeners on the road, according to bloomberg.,com. “Music’s an important piece of radio listening in the car, but if there’s a place where spoken word is also equally, and more important really, it’s in the car,” Pandora Chief Financial Officer Michael Herring said in an interview. He said it’s too early to specify the content or timing. Pandora is looking to autos as a way to jump start its growth amid competition from a growing number of platforms. During a conference call last week, Pandora executives pointed to the company’s 7 million automobile users in the last quarter, up from 2.5 million a year earlier. Herring said 'As the car becomes more important, thinking about other types of content that are important for the car becomes more critical,” Herring said. “That’s why Sirius spends so much money on Howard Stern, sports and news.” Pandora can be accessed in 33 percent of new cars in the U.S. while Sirius is installed in 71 percent, according to Corey Barrett, an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities LLC in Portland, Oregon. Pandora converts about 30 percent to in-car listeners, Barrett estimated. Barrett projects Pandora to double its 7 million automobile users to 15 million by 2017.
FRED JACOBS: The Radio Business Will Sustain Itself Because Of Its Unique And Compelling Personalities
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 5TH, 2014 –– Lots of anticipation for Jacobs Media's Fred Jacob's and Lori Lewis' presentation at this year's MSBC. In today's blog, Fred writes: "As Lori and I make the final preparations for our Morning Show Boot Camp presentation later this week, I can’t help but think about how the role of personalities in radio has changed over the past few decades. Our session utilizes our ten years of Techsurveys to lay out truths based in research that can help the air personalities of today better perform and serve their audiences. “What 347,325 People Made Perfectly Clear About Radio” focused on the importance of concepts like building a social media hierarchy, understanding the emotional underpinnings of why people listen to the radio in 2014, and the value of content sharing to growing audience cume and loyalty. But all the research in the world cannot help direct personalities truly move audiences. That’s a process that simply isn’t quantitative. The truth about the appeal of Howard Stern, Bob Rivers, and the late Kidd Kraddick (or his successors) cannot be found on a spreadsheet or in a pie chart. Their success lies in their innate ability to create, perform, entertain, and touch the lives of others." Jacobs adds: The radio business isn’t great because of its margins or its EBITDA (Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization). It will sustain itself because of its unique and compelling personalities." That's what That Miguel Show on Island 106 in Panama City did last week. Pregnant co-host Mandy held down the broadcast aspect of the day while Miguel, Holly, and afternoon host Tyler rode the roller coaster for 15 hours straight and raised $5,585 (with more coming in!) for Food for Kidz. [LISTEN] Howard Stern Says Goodbye To WCCC Hartford
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 4TH, 2014 –– WCCC Hartford's longtime PD/host Mike Karolyi took to the air last Friday from noon to 5:00 pm with the station's final show and welcomed back one of its biggest former stars Howard Stern who called in to say goodbye. "I love WCCC and I am sorry to see it stop being a rock station," lamented Stern. "WCCC was, in my estimation, THE rock station in Hartford. When I got a job doing mornings on WCCC, it was such a big moment for me. I remember walking into WCCC and thinking 'Oh my God, I have hit the big time.'" joined WCCC in 1979 earning a whopping $250 a week. He left later following a pay dispute. Karolyi, who has been with the station for 28 years, said “For a station like WCCC-FM to go away, you’re losing that old style radio where the guy here is live he’s local,” Oddly, no formal statement has yet to be issued, but it's reported that the rock outlet has been purchased by Educational Media Foundation and switch the format to Contemporary Christian. As Jockline Daily reported last Friday, this sale comes just weeks after the sale of another Hartford station, WDRC, which was sold by Buckley Broadcasting to Connoisseur Media. WCCC's final song was Pantera “Walk." LISTEN TO ENTIRE STERN CALL HERE
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Wants To Evict Alan Freed's Ashes Says Son
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 4TH, 2014 –– Lance Freed, son of legendary radio host and creator of the term 'Rock & Roll' says he was told several months ago by Rock Hall President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Harris that he would have to "immediately" remove his father's ashes from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame according to cleveland.com. "He said, 'look Lance, there's something strange, people walk past the exhibit and your dad's ashes and they scratch their heads and can't figure out what this thing is, and we'd like you to come pick up the ashes." Contacted by phone, Harris said, "First and foremost, not all of [Freed's artifacts] are being moved out of the museum. We are returning the ashes to his family.' The display case which held Freed's ashes instead will include a pair of his iconic microphones, since he was, after all, a broadcaster, Harris said. Alan Freed is credited with popularizing the term "rock and roll" as a DJ in the 1950s and hosted what is considered the first rock 'n' roll concert, the Moondog Coronation Ball, in 1952 at the Cleveland Arena. His cremains were originally buried inside a wall at the Hall, but later moved to their public but low-key display at the request of the family. Following his time in Cleveland in the 1950s, Freed moved to New York, where he continued his rock 'n' roll DJ career. A payola scandal ended that career, with Freed pleading guilty to two counts of commercial bribery in 1962. Lance Freed says he was told by Harris that the Freed exhibit, minus the urn, would be moved to the lower level Ahmet Ertegun hall as part of a chronological history of rock 'n' roll. "It's pushing him to the side," says Freed, "It's making him part of the passing parade, rather than a place where people can say 'hey this is the guy who helped start it all."

Popular Minny Host Quits In The Middle Of His Show
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 ––According to twincities.com, Jason Lewis (R) told his boss, Mike Crusham, Pres./MM for CCM+E Minneapolis, two months ago that he intended to retire Aug. 1st. True to his word, he did, but not in typical fashion. On Thursday evening, he quit in the middle of his show. Crusham added: 'He decided not to go public with it until today. I think he is serious about it. I hope he is not. He is one of the best talk show hosts I have ever worked with or listened to.' A couple of hours after Lewis quit, he tweeted "Today I left the radio biz for something better." The tweet included the hashtag #GoingGalt and a link to the website galt.io. Also at the site is a 15-minute clip featuring a "parody of what it is like working in a 'highly regulated industry' and some of the events that led to his decision" to quit the radio show. Lewis spent a decade at KSTP-AM before leaving in 2003 for WBT in Charlotte, N.C. He returned to KTLK in the Twin Cities in 2006 for a job at KTLK. In 2009, The Jason Lewis Show" became syndicated by Genesis Communications. Crusham said the station is planning to run the "Joe Pags Show," from WOAI in San Antonio, starting next week in Lewis' time slot.
[LISTEN] Larry King Says 'Pompous' Piers Morgan Caused Failure
“Personally, I like him fine, but it was all about him." King
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– With an assist from Envision Networks® Guest Services, Larry King rang up Larry, Rob and Kris of Norton (shown) in the Morning on WGRF/Buffalo to promote the third season of his hit internet show Larry King Now. And, of course, the subject quickly turned to Larry King's successor Piers Morgan’s lack of success following the cancellation of Piers Morgan Live. Larry commented on Piers Morgan’s difficult transition into his new role. “Any person who has been on for 25 years in one place and you have an audience who is used to you…it’s very hard to step into those shoes no matter who it is.” King compared Piers Morgan’s interview style compared to his own. “Personally, I like him fine, but it was all about him. It was the opposite of the way I interview. He was the opposite. So now they not only had someone who was British, different, but then he would use the word ‘I’ every other word…He became, I thought a bit, in my opinion, pompous, but that’s the way I looked at it. So I had trouble watching Piers Morgan’s show, and I guess a lot of other people did too.” LISTEN HERE

Carnival Operator Draws Fire After Radio Host Post Blog Of His Daughter & Others Being Turned Away From Rides During 'Special Needs Day'
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– A Carnival operator has come under fire after a local radio host blogged about his daughter and other kids with special needs being denied rides at a local amusement part. Greg Dwyers, co-host of the legendary "Dwyer & Michaels Show on 97X/Quad Cities posted: "Today, I have to say something, even it’s to nobody. Today we went to a ‘Special Needs Day’ at our summer Fair, like we do every year ... The Fair offers free admission and rides for 3 hours for families with a special needs member ... Until today. We were told by a ride operator that these kids could no longer go on rides that go in the air (or, about 90% of the rides my daughter was interested in riding, and had been on in years past with no issue.)" He added: I am so proud that my daughter, who has never asked for special anything, even in the face of this awful treatment, managed to hide her disappointment until she walked away from the line. But, with tears welling up in her eyes, she finally shouts, “THIS STINKS!” You tell ‘em Sweetie.!" Local media quickly picked up the post and now the town is buzzing. The quadcitiestimes.com headlined: Not-so-Special ‘Special Needs Day’ |When the Fair director learned of the incidents, he quickly issued an apology. “We strive to make everybody happy, especially these kids." He added that the special needs guests who were turned away would be invited back Sunday from 10-11 a.m. to “enjoy the fair as it should be.”

ROBIN MARSHAL: 'That's Absolutely Me On The Cover'
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– Our good friend and cohort Al Peterson, publisher of ntsmediaonline.com, writes in a special feature: "you may not actually know Robin Marshall, you probably know her voice. Yeah ... that voice. The one behind those ads you’ve heard for Wal-Mart, Lexus, Best Western Hotels, Outback and many more clients. Or perhaps you heard her during her 20-year stint on the air in New York City, or as the imaging voice for numerous radio stations nationwide, as well as several nationally syndicated shows." But it wasn't her career he was examining in this special interview, it was her just released book: The Diary of a Sugar Mom: Don’t Tell The Kids. Marshall reveals some steamy details including what was real vs. fictional: PETERSON: You call the book, “pure faction” but you seem to be intimately familiar with your story’s lead character? How did you research the woman you call ‘Pandora.’ ROBIN: I’m not going to tell you what’s true and what isn’t, but I will tell you that a lot of it is true -- but then a lot of it isn’t. I can say that a tremendous amount of the family parts and the kid parts are true. As for the (s)ex, a lot of is -- well, it is what it is. AL: Will you at least admit to whether or not that’s you on the front cover? ROBYN: Yes, that’s absolutely me (see photo at left for proof). READ ENTIRE INTERVIEW HERE
[WATCH] Sioux Falls Host Walmart Ice Cream Melt Test Goes Viral
3,406,742 Views And Counting
THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– Proving again it's now how big the market, but how big the imagination, Dan Collins of KIKN 100.5 Sioux Falls, SD read about the woman in Cincinnati who told a TV station in mid-July that her son’s ice cream sandwich was left outside in 80-degree weather for 12 hours and didn’t melt. And number of other TV stations picked up on the story, but Dan decided to actually put it to the test. And what do you know? over an hour later it still hadn't melted even in 80º heat. For comparative purposes, he also laid another ice cream brand next to the Walmart sandwich. The other brand was in a puddle in about 30 minutes. A Walmart spokesman, Danit Marquardt said "It is “real ice cream”; it just has more cream. “Ice cream with more cream will generally melt at a slower rate, which is the case with our Great Value ice cream sandwiches.” Walmart’s ice cream sandwiches contain the ingredients corn syrup, guar gum, carob bean gum and cellulose gum, which act as stabilizers to help the ice cream keep its shape. Of course, none of this is as important than Collin's simple melt test, as of this morning, had topped over 3,000,000 views - WATCH HERE

Cleveland Newspaper Passes On Full Page LeBron James Ad By ESPN Host Dan Le Batard
THE MOUTH, JULY 31ST, 2014 –– As Miami Heat fans grapple with LeBron James return to Cleveland, ESPN host Dan Le Batard (inset) wanted to remind him and Cleveland which city he earned both of his championship rings. The Bleacher Report writes that cleveland.com's Evan MacDonald, representatives from The Dan Le Batard Show called the Northeast Ohio Media Group in hopes of taking out a full-page ad (mockup shown) in Cleveland's Plain Dealer, but his ad was "politely declined." Le Batard told his listeners that the ad was not meant to be mean-spirited. Rather, it was to poke fun at James and Cavaliers fans. One reason Le Batard wanted to run the advertisement is that James has never publicly thanked Heat fans for their support over the past four seasons. Reportedly, Le Batard was also attempting to run the ad in The Akron Beacon-Journal who also declined. And for those who want to plan now for the first face-off between the LeBron charged Cavaliers and Miami Heat, it's set for Christmas Day.

Abnormal Heartbeat Lands The Bert Show's Jeff Dauler In The Hospital
THE MOUTH, JULY 30TH, 2014 - Get well wishes are in order for Jeff Dauler, co-host and executive producer of the syndicated Bert Show who landed in the hospital following what's reportedly an irregular heartbeat. The AJC's Rodney Ho reports the condition known as “atrial fibrillation' is an irregular heartbeat that increases the risk of stroke and heart disease. Signs include dizziness, weakness, and fatigue. Treatment involves medication and lifestyle changes, and sometimes procedures such as cardioversion, ablation, pacemakers, or surgery.” Dauler tweeted that it looks like he'll spend some time in the hospital' (right). One of Dauler's Facebook followers wrote: "It happens more often than you would think. And you can still have a fantastic life. The biggest mistake people make after things like this is being afraid of doing anything that will get your heart rate up, like exercise. It will take some time but you can do it.” Jockline Daily reached out to Dauler and will post an update as soon as we received. Dauler joined The Bert Show in 2001 and now the show is heard on over 25 stations nationwide. Send Jeff your best wishes HERE
[WATCH] Stephen A. Smith Issues Apology Over Domestic Violence Comments; Sits Out ESPN Appearances For A Week
THE MOUTH, JULY 30TH, 2014 –– ESPN announced on Tuesday that Stephen A. Smith will sit out a week on "First Take" or ESPN Radio. This comes a day after Smith publicly apologized on ESPN2's 'First Take" for his domestic violence comments where he expressed that victims of domestic violence need to be mindful of the "elements of provocation" when dealing with abusers, and the subsequent televised apology were made during episodes of ESPN2's "First Take" debate program. His comments were made last Friday while discussing the NFL's decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games following a domestic violence arrest during the off season. In his apology, he described his comments as "the most egregious mistake of my career." He added: "I ventured beyond the scope of our discussion by alluding to a woman's role in such heinous matters, going so far as to use the word "provoke" in my diatribe. My words came across that it is somehow a woman's fault. This was not my intent. It is not what I'm trying to say. Yet the failure to clearly articulate something different lies squarely on my shoulders. To say what I actually said was foolish is an understatement. To say I was wrong is obvious. To apologize to say I'm sorry, doesn't do the matter it's proper justice, to be quite honest. But I do sincerely apologize." “ESPN followed Smith's apology by posting that Smith will not appear on First Take or ESPN Radio for a week, but return to ESPN next Wednesday. The word 'suspension' was not used in the statement. Co-host Cari Champion also shared her thoughts on the matter following Smith's apology. CLICK HERE WATCH

[LISTEN] Radio Bound Erika Ganong Has A Story To Tell
By Don Anthony
THE MOUTH, JULY 29TH, 2014 –– Dan Vallie's highly acclaimed Radio Talent Institute wraps up tomorrow at WKU in Bowling Green, KY. Last weekend I had the pleasure of speaking before this amazing group of college students who are gearing up for a future in radio. Among the attendees was Erika Ganong (L), now a senior at the University of Louisville. During my presentation, I encouraged audience members not to just entertain listeners, but be able to MOVE them as well. As it turned out, Erika's story moved me and others. She deals with a condition called ET (Essential Tremors) which can cause any part of her body to shake and also affects her vocal chords. She tells Jockline Daily 'Over 10 million people in the United States have this movement disorder. I was diagnosed with ET when I was 13. I am now 21. I am looking to get into the broadcasting or production industry. I now work with the Radio Disney Road Crew in Indianapolis. I always had a passion to learn about my condition I bought books, I researched, I sought out support; and that was when I hit a wall. There was no support in my area or anywhere near my city; I found it hard to believe that I could be the only one. I eventually began my own support group and it has slowly but surely begun to grow. This is not just a physical condition; it is a mental, emotional and psychological one. I truly have a passion to spread the word and raise awareness about Essential Tremors. When I interned on Lousiville's 102.3 The Max with the Lambert & Lindsey Morning Show, I was able to tell our listeners about ET on air in one of their segments. George Lindsay (whose show broadcast live during the event - photo) says 'She has tons of personality and honestly, her condition was NOT an issue on the show ...she was just INTERN SPROCKET (cause she doesn't know how to ride a bike). They also ran PSA's for her meetings to help people that also suffer from tremors. Erika would love to spread the word on this condition with your listeners. If you would like more information about Essential Tremors or her own experience and challenges, email her at email@example.com or give a call at 502-291-3676. I know she would love to hear from you and I promise her story and positive thinking will prove inspirational to both you and your listeners. Listen to her explain ET on The Lindsay & Lambert Show HERE

THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– One of radio's most beloved and respected personalities, Bob Rivers, shocked listeners this morning by announcing his retirement. Rivers got his start over 33 years ago as a host in Connecticut and later moved to WAAF in Worcester where he spent 6 years as part of the Bob and Zip morning show with fellow on air personality Peter "Zip" Zipfel. During his stint with WAAF, Rivers started producing parody and novelty songs, both for the station and the "American Comedy Network." Twisted Christmas was certified a gold record. In '88 he moved to 98 Rock" Baltimore and garnered national attention for an 11-day, on-the-air marathon during a Baltimore Orioles losing streak. Fox Pulls Ads From Entercom; Host Gets Pulled Off Show For A Week
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– Looks like WEEI/Boston's Kirk Minihane's second round of vitriol against FOX Sport's reporter Erin Andrews last Wednesday was enough for Fox Sports president Eric Shanks to pull the plug on all Fox advertising on Entercom last Friday. According to boston.com, he informed Entercom President/CEO David Field that all Fox advertising would be pulled and no Fox Sports personalities would be permitted to be guests on WEEI. “The comments made by Mr. Minihane were boorish and sexist,’’ wrote Shanks. “Further, the ‘apology’ made by Mr. Minihane was juvenile and insincere. To make matters worse, the ‘apology’ was posted under a banner (allegedly approved by your Boston VP and Market Manager, Phil Zachary) hailing ‘The Triumphant Return of Kirk Minihane.’ “I had hoped by this time we might hear a sincere apology from WEEI, or perhaps someone from your office might have reached out to Fox (which through our film and television businesses is a significant advertiser on Entercom stations), however, none of that has been forthcoming, and needless to say we are disappointed.” According to The Boston Globe, about two hours after Shank's letter to Field, Minihane’s suspension was announced. “Kirk Minihane’s statements regarding Erin Andrews were offensive and deplorable. It is clear by the response from our listeners, advertisers, and employees that Kirk’s efforts to apologize and make this right have been insufficient and ambiguous. We want to make it unequivocally clear that his comments were unacceptable and do not reflect Entercom’s values and standards," said David Field. A Fox Sports spokesman said it is uncertain how much the network spends nationally in advertising on Entercom stations. Entercom owns more than 100 stations in 23 markets. Minihane's first came under fire on July 15 after calling out Andrews for her interview with Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright at the All-Star game, calling her a “gutless b***h” who should “drop dead.”
Kerri Kasem Says My Dad Is Not Missing; Jean Dumped By Her Lawyers
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– In a story that has long since crossed the bizarre threshold, here's yet another twist: According to komonews.com, lawyers of Los Angeles-based firm Haney & Young are asking the court to relieve them as her counsel as soon as possible for Casey's widow Jean (shown right). According to legal documents filed in Casey's conservatorship obtained by TMZ.com, the lawyers claim 'Jean does not respond to any of their correspondence, including email and phone. In addition, the papers state Jean has amounted $500,000 in unpaid fees for her various legal battles, and if she does not settle the balance, the money will allegedly come out of Casey's estate.' Meanwhile, in response to recent news (see Jockline 7/21) that Kasem's body was removed from a mortuary in Washington state and flown to Montreal, Canada, Kerri Kasem posted on her Facebook page (along with family photo - left): "Let me clear a few things up. First of all, my Dad is not "missing," Jean Kasem knows exactly where he is and she is HIDING him from his friends and family. My Dad, my brother, my sister and myself ALL believe that YOU are not the body. In other words, you are a spirit/soul inhabiting a body so when my Dad died he left his body. You can't take your body to Heaven with you! We got to spend the last 15 days of my father's life with him and THAT is what mattered. Do I wish that Jean would bury him here at Forest Lawn? YES, but we fought the good fight and WON that fight. This is not my fight. We will find out where my Dad is buried when the law that I am working on passes. There is a provision in the "Visitation Bill" AB2034 that states the conservator/guardian must notify the immediate family when the ailing parent is in the hospital, upon death and where they are buried. Jean Kasem will be court ordered to tell us where our Dad is. If my father is buried in Montreal, Canada a place my Dad has NO connection to, it just further proves that even in death as in life, Jean has tried to keep us away from our father. No matter what she does now… DAD IS ALWAYS WITH US."
WLS-FM Gets The Diamond Touch All This Week
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– Longtime WRQX-FM DC host, Jack Diamond, will join WLS-FM morning host Brant Miller (L) all this week on-air according to robertfeder.com. Diamond, of course, is no stranger to Jan Jeffries, senior vice president corporate/programming for Cumulus Media and program director of WLS FM. The two worked together at both WRQX and WQXI FM in Atlanta. Jeffries told Feder “Jack worked with me in Washington and Atlanta, and it seemed like it would be fun to put him in with Brant for a week,” he said. As Jockline previously reported, WLS FM came close to hiring Ed Volkman and Joe Colborn, aka Eddie & Jobo, but the plan fell through when Colborn turned down a 2½-year deal worth a reported $1.2 million. In addition to his morning show, Brant Miller is chief meteorologist at NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, has been doubling as morning host on WLS FM since October 2012. Brant will join next week's lineup at MSBC26, where he'll serve on the "Looking Your Best On Camera" panel which offers tips and techniques to radio talent who are finding themselves in front of the camera and on video more frequently.

THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– Before his untimely death last July 27th, Kidd Kraddick often shared news that his daughter Caroline was a singer, studied musical theater at Oklahoma City University and that she sang at last year’s public memorial for Kraddick in Dallas. According to the star-telegram.com, Caroline (who spells her last name Cradick) of Fort Worth, is getting ready to move to Nashville to pursue her music career, but one of her music projects is very personal. “I just wrote a song for my dad that I’m actually going to play for radio people at a dinner on Saturday (27th),” she said. “I’m excited about that. We’re still wrapping it up, but once it’s done, the proceeds will go to Kidd’s Kids.” (After her father died, Cradick took over the Kraddick Foundation, which includes Kidd’s Kids, the charity Kraddick founded for terminally and chronically ill children and their families). Cradick co-wrote the song, 'Just Love,' with Nashville-based songwriter Chris Roberts and Lindsay Lawler, a singer-songwriter friend who’s a former Kidd Kraddick in the Morning intern. The song, which is not yet available for download, features Roberts on vocals and piano in a simple arrangement that also includes Mark Evitts on strings. It begins: “Life — they say it’s all about the things that you leave behind/I know you wish you had a little more time/Just a little more time to sing your songs.”
Channel 933's Geena The Latina Show Invades Comic Con
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– As you may have heard, San Diego was once again PACKED with people and celebs for Comic Con. And that included a number of radio peeps, as well. There to give Jockline Daily a glimpse was Geena The Latina, morning co host at Channel 933. She tells Jockline Daily: "Downtown was seriously mayhem! From free zip lining through "Gotham City" to experiencing a real life zombie walk to eating free pizza courtesy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to enjoying free drinks at the "Nerd Headquarters." There was plenty to do even if you DIDN'T have tickets into the actual Con. Hotels were sold out and Uber rides were charging 3x the normal fee yet this didn't stop people from showing up in the thousands. Hollywood invaded San Diego making it difficult for locals to enjoy their regular favorite hangout. The annual Playboy party was "THE" party to get into on Friday night and the huge Entertainment Weekly party at the Hard Rock hotel was the safe haven for celebs on Saturday night. Celebs like Megan Fox, Mark Ruffalo, Daniel Radcliffe, Nina Dobrev, Peter Jackson, the cast of Sons of Anarchy and True Blood, Jack Black, Emma Roberts, and TONS more enjoyed exploring everything the Con had to offer. We sent out our man on the streets "Intern Dallis" (shown above) out with the Channel 933 van dressed up as Batman to report live every morning from the line at the Con. He talked to the first person in line as well as delivered doughnuts to the line of people camped out overnight. Producer Chris hung out at the MTV Fandom Awards at Petco Park where Linken Park performed. Assistant producer Alicia was also out at the Con Saturday dressed as Batman to protect San Diego. And I also did some Comic-Con watching myself both Friday and Saturday night and boy was it interesting to say the least. I was also to sneak myself into the Playboy party Friday night and hung out with some WWE wrestlers Saturday night. Aww the joys of being a girl." D.C. The show marks the return of the popular Fraser to the DMV. The former co-host of WIHT’s “The Kane Show” for six years, Fraser spent the past year in New York City pursuing television opportunities while staying connected to the area as a contributor to Fox 5’s “Good Day DC.” Bentli is also a familiar voice in the DMV, where he was heard on WMZQ in DC and WPOC in Baltimore from 2010 to 2012. His career in radio spans from coast to coast, reaching top-rated shows in the afternoon on Chicago’s KISS-FM and then Los Angeles’ KBIG-FM. Bentli most recently succeeded Nick Cannon as Morning Drive-time host of “Ty Loves NY” on CBS’ Mainstream flagship 92.3 NOW-FM in New York City. The show will also feature another familiar voice: that of Melanie Glazener, another former co-host on “The Kane Show.” Glazener’s radio resume also includes five years on Tampa’s WILD 94.1. Glazener will be moving from Tampa to DC to join the show. Mike McVay, Senior Vice President, Programming, Cumulus said: “We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to assemble a team like Sarah, Ty and Mel for mornings." Actually, if you paid closer attention to Sarah's teaser video from yesterday you would have noticed a few of the slides showing both Ty and Mel (above frame). Then there was Ty's tweet posting: "I'm told I have to set an early alarm again..." WATCH ANNOUNCEMENT HERE (shown in bottom photo)

Toucher & Rich Weigh In On Erin Andrews Kerfuffle
THEMOUTH, JULY 25TH, 2014 –– Ever since news of WEEI Boston host, Kirk Minihane's infamous 'gutless b***h' comment, Toucher and Rich of crosstown 98.5 The Sports Hubhave been inundated with requests on their take over the controversy. According the boston.com, they said in fairness they wanted to hear the actual audio first. After listening along with the apology, they told the outlet they were amazed with what they heard: "The guys across the street admitted to being actors and playing different roles on their show. What? That’s not the point of radio. You don’t need to act." The station chose not to suspend him and after returning this week, he once again apologized and continued to express regret for using that term, BUT then added:“ “I will say this. I think she stinks at her job. I don’t think she’s very smart, I don’t think she comes across as very smart. I think FOX only hired her because she’s good-looking. I think if she weighed 15 pounds more she’d be a waitress at Perkins."

'On Being's Krista Tippett to Receive National Humanities Medal From President Obama
THE MOUTH, JULY 25TH, 2014 –– Krista Tippett, creator and host of the public radio show “On Being,” will be honored Monday with the 2013 National Humanities Medal. Tippett will receive the award from President Obama at a White House ceremony, along with nine other Americans, according to the startribune.com In announcing the award, the White House cited Tippett’s achievements in “thoughtfully delving into the mysteries of human existence. On the air and in print, Ms. Tippett avoids easy answers, embracing complexity and inviting people of all faiths, no faith, and every background to join the conversation.” "On Being" is heard on more than 330 U.S. public radio stations and globally by podcast. “I am so honored by this recognition,” Tippett said. “It's an affirmation of the vision behind our project of the past 10 years, that it should be possible to create intelligent, robust conversation about meaning and morality, across our divides -- to open imaginations and possibilities rather than shutting them down." The show started at Minnesota Public Radio, but spun off into an independent nonprofit production company last year, with its own 4,000-square-foot studio/live event space on Loring Park in Minneapolis.

[LISTEN] Erin Andrews Ripped Again By WEEI Host
THE MOUTH, JULY 24TH, 2014 –– Kirk Minihane (inset) returned to WEEI/Boston's morning show yesterday and wasted little time in stirring things up again following last week's infamous 'gutless b***h' comment. According to boston.com, he continued to express regret for using that term, BUT then added:“ “I will say this. I think she stinks at her job. I don’t think she’s very smart, I don’t think she comes across as very smart. I think FOX only hired her because she’s good-looking. I think if she weighed 15 pounds more she’d be a waitress at Perkins. That’s what I believe.” As Jockline Daily reported, Minihane was not suspended for his original comments last week and said in a statement: “My choice of words was wrong; I was wrong to have used them,” Minihane said in a statement. “To all whom I offended—particularly Ms. Andrews—I apologize.” This comment stemmed from her MLB all-star interview with St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright regarding a couple of pitches to Derek Jeter. Andrews, more or less, gave Wainwright a pass closing with “Well, we appreciate you clearing that up. Don’t you love social media?” Minihane took to the airwaves the next morning by saying “What a b***h. I hate her. What a gutless b****h. Seriously, go away. Drop dead. Meanwhile, Andrews has yet to comment but her publicist, Lewis Kay (not the late Norman Fell as shown) , took to Twitter and blasted Minihane with the above posting. LISTEN TO LATEST AUDIO HERE
