Abnormal Heartbeat Lands The Bert Show's Jeff Dauler In The Hospital
THE MOUTH, JULY 30TH, 2014 - Get well wishes are in order for Jeff Dauler, co-host and executive producer of the syndicated Bert Show who landed in the hospital following what's reportedly an irregular heartbeat. The AJC's Rodney Ho reports the condition known as “atrial fibrillation' is an irregular heartbeat that increases the risk of stroke and heart disease. Signs include dizziness, weakness, and fatigue. Treatment involves medication and lifestyle changes, and sometimes procedures such as cardioversion, ablation, pacemakers, or surgery.” Dauler tweeted that it looks like he'll spend some time in the hospital' (right). One of Dauler's Facebook followers wrote: "It happens more often than you would think. And you can still have a fantastic life. The biggest mistake people make after things like this is being afraid of doing anything that will get your heart rate up, like exercise. It will take some time but you can do it.” Jockline Daily reached out to Dauler and will post an update as soon as we received. Dauler joined The Bert Show in 2001 and now the show is heard on over 25 stations nationwide. Send Jeff your best wishes HERE
[WATCH] Stephen A. Smith Issues Apology Over Domestic Violence Comments; Sits Out ESPN Appearances For A Week
THE MOUTH, JULY 30TH, 2014 –– ESPN announced on Tuesday that Stephen A. Smith will sit out a week on "First Take" or ESPN Radio. This comes a day after Smith publicly apologized on ESPN2's 'First Take" for his domestic violence comments where he expressed that victims of domestic violence need to be mindful of the "elements of provocation" when dealing with abusers, and the subsequent televised apology were made during episodes of ESPN2's "First Take" debate program. His comments were made last Friday while discussing the NFL's decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games following a domestic violence arrest during the off season. In his apology, he described his comments as "the most egregious mistake of my career." He added: "I ventured beyond the scope of our discussion by alluding to a woman's role in such heinous matters, going so far as to use the word "provoke" in my diatribe. My words came across that it is somehow a woman's fault. This was not my intent. It is not what I'm trying to say. Yet the failure to clearly articulate something different lies squarely on my shoulders. To say what I actually said was foolish is an understatement. To say I was wrong is obvious. To apologize to say I'm sorry, doesn't do the matter it's proper justice, to be quite honest. But I do sincerely apologize." “ESPN followed Smith's apology by posting that Smith will not appear on First Take or ESPN Radio for a week, but return to ESPN next Wednesday. The word 'suspension' was not used in the statement. Co-host Cari Champion also shared her thoughts on the matter following Smith's apology. CLICK HERE WATCH

Enersen retired as KING 5 News anchor last month. Rivers said he's done morning drive for 33 years, three years longer than Johnny Carson hosted The Tonight Show. “The moment I got here, it was God’s country. THE MOUTH, JULY 29TH, 2014 –– Yesterday, Mix 94.7’s Jay Styles started his journey on the Courage Walk to help raise money for Wounded Warrior Project and soldiers and veterans battling PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Styles walked his first 20 miles yesterday from Camp Mabry to Veterans Memorial Park in Cedar Park. He will continue with another 20 miles today and every weekday through Friday, August 1st to raise money. That will be a total of 100 miles with a goal of raising $20,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. Jay will ask listeners to show support to our troops and soldiers by logging onto mix947.com and make a donation in hopes of raising at least $20,000! Why a goal of $20,000? The cost to train 1 service dog is $20,000. *** The cost-per-case basis, the estimated two-year cost for each case of PTSD alone ranges from $5,900 to $10,300; for each case of major depression alone, from $15,460 to $25,760; and for each case of comorbid PTSD and major depression, from $12,430 to $16,890. “I have battled depression for the past decade, so depression is a deeply personal issue for me. I am doing this walk to raise awareness of the consistent growth of the PTSD epidemic with our brave military veterans. I am a proud American and supporter of the men and women who serve our country. If I can in some small way be a voice and get more much needed help, I have begun to accomplish my goal.”-Jay Styles, MIX 94.7 afternoon host.

[LISTEN] Radio Bound Erika Ganong Has A Story To Tell
By Don Anthony
THE MOUTH, JULY 29TH, 2014 –– Dan Vallie's highly acclaimed Radio Talent Institute wraps up tomorrow at WKU in Bowling Green, KY. Last weekend I had the pleasure of speaking before this amazing group of college students who are gearing up for a future in radio. Among the attendees was Erika Ganong (L), now a senior at the University of Louisville. During my presentation, I encouraged audience members not to just entertain listeners, but be able to MOVE them as well. As it turned out, Erika's story moved me and others. She deals with a condition called ET (Essential Tremors) which can cause any part of her body to shake and also affects her vocal chords. She tells Jockline Daily 'Over 10 million people in the United States have this movement disorder. I was diagnosed with ET when I was 13. I am now 21. I am looking to get into the broadcasting or production industry. I now work with the Radio Disney Road Crew in Indianapolis. I always had a passion to learn about my condition I bought books, I researched, I sought out support; and that was when I hit a wall. There was no support in my area or anywhere near my city; I found it hard to believe that I could be the only one. I eventually began my own support group and it has slowly but surely begun to grow. This is not just a physical condition; it is a mental, emotional and psychological one. I truly have a passion to spread the word and raise awareness about Essential Tremors. When I interned on Lousiville's 102.3 The Max with the Lambert & Lindsey Morning Show, I was able to tell our listeners about ET on air in one of their segments. George Lindsay (whose show broadcast live during the event - photo) says 'She has tons of personality and honestly, her condition was NOT an issue on the show ...she was just INTERN SPROCKET (cause she doesn't know how to ride a bike). They also ran PSA's for her meetings to help people that also suffer from tremors. Erika would love to spread the word on this condition with your listeners. If you would like more information about Essential Tremors or her own experience and challenges, email her at email@example.com or give a call at 502-291-3676. I know she would love to hear from you and I promise her story and positive thinking will prove inspirational to both you and your listeners. Listen to her explain ET on The Lindsay & Lambert Show HERE

SHOCKER: Bob Rivers Announces Retirement
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– One of radio's most beloved and respected personalities, Bob Rivers, shocked listeners this morning by announcing his retirement. Rivers got his start over 33 years ago as a host in Connecticut and later moved to WAAF in Worcester where he spent 6 years as part of the Bob and Zip morning show with fellow on air personality Peter "Zip" Zipfel. During his stint with WAAF, Rivers started producing parody and novelty songs, both for the station and the "American Comedy Network." Twisted Christmas was certified a gold record. In '88 he moved to 98 Rock" Baltimore and garnered national attention for an 11-day, on-the-air marathon during a Baltimore Orioles losing streak. He vowed to remain on the air until the Orioles won a game. Fox Pulls Ads From Entercom; Host Gets Pulled Off Show For A Week
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– Looks like WEEI/Boston's Kirk Minihane's second round of vitriol against FOX Sport's reporter Erin Andrews last Wednesday was enough for Fox Sports president Eric Shanks to pull the plug on all Fox advertising on Entercom last Friday. According to boston.com, he informed Entercom President/CEO David Field that all Fox advertising would be pulled and no Fox Sports personalities would be permitted to be guests on WEEI. “The comments made by Mr. Minihane were boorish and sexist,’’ wrote Shanks. “Further, the ‘apology’ made by Mr. Minihane was juvenile and insincere. To make matters worse, the ‘apology’ was posted under a banner (allegedly approved by your Boston VP and Market Manager, Phil Zachary) hailing ‘The Triumphant Return of Kirk Minihane.’ “I had hoped by this time we might hear a sincere apology from WEEI, or perhaps someone from your office might have reached out to Fox (which through our film and television businesses is a significant advertiser on Entercom stations), however, none of that has been forthcoming, and needless to say we are disappointed.” According to The Boston Globe, about two hours after Shank's letter to Field, Minihane’s suspension was announced. “Kirk Minihane’s statements regarding Erin Andrews were offensive and deplorable. It is clear by the response from our listeners, advertisers, and employees that Kirk’s efforts to apologize and make this right have been insufficient and ambiguous. We want to make it unequivocally clear that his comments were unacceptable and do not reflect Entercom’s values and standards," said David Field. A Fox Sports spokesman said it is uncertain how much the network spends nationally in advertising on Entercom stations. Entercom owns more than 100 stations in 23 markets. Minihane's first came under fire on July 15 after calling out Andrews for her interview with Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright at the All-Star game, calling her a “gutless b***h” who should “drop dead.”
Kerri Kasem Says My Dad Is Not Missing; Jean Dumped By Her Lawyers
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– In a story that has long since crossed the bizarre threshold, here's yet another twist: According to komonews.com, lawyers of Los Angeles-based firm Haney & Young are asking the court to relieve them as her counsel as soon as possible for Casey's widow Jean (shown right). According to legal documents filed in Casey's conservatorship obtained by TMZ.com, the lawyers claim 'Jean does not respond to any of their correspondence, including email and phone. In addition, the papers state Jean has amounted $500,000 in unpaid fees for her various legal battles, and if she does not settle the balance, the money will allegedly come out of Casey's estate.' Meanwhile, in response to recent news (see Jockline 7/21) that Kasem's body was removed from a mortuary in Washington state and flown to Montreal, Canada, Kerri Kasem posted on her Facebook page (along with family photo - left): "Let me clear a few things up. First of all, my Dad is not "missing," Jean Kasem knows exactly where he is and she is HIDING him from his friends and family. My Dad, my brother, my sister and myself ALL believe that YOU are not the body. In other words, you are a spirit/soul inhabiting a body so when my Dad died he left his body. You can't take your body to Heaven with you! We got to spend the last 15 days of my father's life with him and THAT is what mattered. Do I wish that Jean would bury him here at Forest Lawn? YES, but we fought the good fight and WON that fight. This is not my fight. We will find out where my Dad is buried when the law that I am working on passes. There is a provision in the "Visitation Bill" AB2034 that states the conservator/guardian must notify the immediate family when the ailing parent is in the hospital, upon death and where they are buried. Jean Kasem will be court ordered to tell us where our Dad is. If my father is buried in Montreal, Canada a place my Dad has NO connection to, it just further proves that even in death as in life, Jean has tried to keep us away from our father. No matter what she does now… DAD IS ALWAYS WITH US."
WLS-FM Gets The Diamond Touch All This Week
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– Longtime WRQX-FM DC host, Jack Diamond, will join WLS-FM morning host Brant Miller (L) all this week on-air according to robertfeder.com. Diamond, of course, is no stranger to Jan Jeffries, senior vice president corporate/programming for Cumulus Media and program director of WLS FM. The two worked together at both WRQX and WQXI FM in Atlanta. Jeffries told Feder “Jack worked with me in Washington and Atlanta, and it seemed like it would be fun to put him in with Brant for a week,” he said. As Jockline previously reported, WLS FM came close to hiring Ed Volkman and Joe Colborn, aka Eddie & Jobo, but the plan fell through when Colborn turned down a 2½-year deal worth a reported $1.2 million. In addition to his morning show, Brant Miller is chief meteorologist at NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, has been doubling as morning host on WLS FM since October 2012. Brant will join next week's lineup at MSBC26, where he'll serve on the "Looking Your Best On Camera" panel which offers tips and techniques to radio talent who are finding themselves in front of the camera and on video more frequently.

[WATCH] Kidd Kraddick's Daughter Co-Writes Song For Him
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– Before his untimely death last July 27th, Kidd Kraddick often shared news that his daughter Caroline was a singer, studied musical theater at Oklahoma City University and that she sang at last year’s public memorial for Kraddick in Dallas. According to the star-telegram.com, Caroline (who spells her last name Cradick) of Fort Worth, is getting ready to move to Nashville to pursue her music career, but one of her music projects is very personal. “I just wrote a song for my dad that I’m actually going to play for radio people at a dinner on Saturday (27th),” she said. “I’m excited about that. We’re still wrapping it up, but once it’s done, the proceeds will go to Kidd’s Kids.” (After her father died, Cradick took over the Kraddick Foundation, which includes Kidd’s Kids, the charity Kraddick founded for terminally and chronically ill children and their families). Cradick co-wrote the song, 'Just Love,' with Nashville-based songwriter Chris Roberts and Lindsay Lawler, a singer-songwriter friend who’s a former Kidd Kraddick in the Morning intern. The song, which is not yet available for download, features Roberts on vocals and piano in a simple arrangement that also includes Mark Evitts on strings. It begins: “Life — they say it’s all about the things that you leave behind/I know you wish you had a little more time/Just a little more time to sing your songs.”
Channel 933's Geena The Latina Show Invades Comic Con
THE MOUTH, JULY 28TH, 2014 –– As you may have heard, San Diego was once again PACKED with people and celebs for Comic Con. And that included a number of radio peeps, as well. There to give Jockline Daily a glimpse was Geena The Latina, morning co host at Channel 933. She tells Jockline Daily: "Downtown was seriously mayhem! From free zip lining through "Gotham City" to experiencing a real life zombie walk to eating free pizza courtesy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to enjoying free drinks at the "Nerd Headquarters." There was plenty to do even if you DIDN'T have tickets into the actual Con. Hotels were sold out and Uber rides were charging 3x the normal fee yet this didn't stop people from showing up in the thousands. Hollywood invaded San Diego making it difficult for locals to enjoy their regular favorite hangout. The annual Playboy party was "THE" party to get into on Friday night and the huge Entertainment Weekly party at the Hard Rock hotel was the safe haven for celebs on Saturday night. Celebs like Megan Fox, Mark Ruffalo, Daniel Radcliffe, Nina Dobrev, Peter Jackson, the cast of Sons of Anarchy and True Blood, Jack Black, Emma Roberts, and TONS more enjoyed exploring everything the Con had to offer. We sent out our man on the streets "Intern Dallis" (shown above) out with the Channel 933 van dressed up as Batman to report live every morning from the line at the Con. He talked to the first person in line as well as delivered doughnuts to the line of people camped out overnight. Producer Chris hung out at the MTV Fandom Awards at Petco Park where Linken Park performed. Assistant producer Alicia was also out at the Con Saturday dressed as Batman to protect San Diego. And I also did some Comic-Con watching myself both Friday and Saturday night and boy was it interesting to say the least. I was also to sneak myself into the Playboy party Friday night and hung out with some WWE wrestlers Saturday night. Aww the joys of being a girl." The show will also feature another familiar voice: that of Melanie Glazener, another former co-host on “The Kane Show.” Glazener’s radio resume also includes five years on Tampa’s WILD 94.1. Glazener will be moving from Tampa to DC to join the show. Mike McVay, Senior Vice President, Programming, Cumulus said: “We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to assemble a team like Sarah, Ty and Mel for mornings." What? That’s not the point of radio. You don’t need to act." The station chose not to suspend him and after returning this week, he once again apologized and continued to express regret for using that term, BUT then added:“ “I will say this. I think she stinks at her job. I don’t think she’s very smart, I don’t think she comes across as very smart. I think FOX only hired her because she’s good-looking. I think if she weighed 15 pounds more she’d be a waitress at Perkins."

THE MOUTH, JULY 24TH, 2014 –– Kirk Minihane (inset) returned to WEEI/Boston's morning show yesterday and wasted little time in stirring things up again following last week's infamous 'gutless b***h' comment. According to boston.com, he continued to express regret for using that term, BUT then added:“ “I will say this. I think she stinks at her job. I don’t think she’s very smart, I don’t think she comes across as very smart. I think FOX only hired her because she’s good-looking. I think if she weighed 15 pounds more she’d be a waitress at Perkins. That’s what I believe.” As Jockline Daily reported, Minihane was not suspended for his original comments last week and said in a statement: “My choice of words was wrong; I was wrong to have used them,” Minihane said in a statement. “To all whom I offended—particularly Ms. Andrews—I apologize.” This comment stemmed from her MLB all-star interview with St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright regarding a couple of pitches to Derek Jeter. Andrews, more or less, gave Wainwright a pass closing with “Well, we appreciate you clearing that up. Don’t you love social media?” Minihane took to the airwaves the next morning by saying “What a b***h. I hate her. What a gutless b****h. Seriously, go away. Drop dead. Meanwhile, Andrews has yet to comment but her publicist, Lewis Kay (not the late Norman Fell as shown) , took to Twitter and blasted Minihane with the above posting. LISTEN TO LATEST AUDIO HERE

"They must have heaps of cash and they've got to have a package between their legs, let's be honest," replied Senator Lambie. "And I don't need them to speak." Later she issued a response, "I apologise to any radio listeners who may be offended by my comments on Kim and Dave's Show," she said in an issued statement. "Of course my political enemies will make a big deal out of my comments, but the reality is I was talking with Kim and Dave on Heart FM - not Sarah Ferguson on the ABC." LISTEN HERE

A clearly miffed Diaz fired back with “I’m sure you’ve never been through a drug phase Kyle have you or alcoholism?” Sandilands made matters worse by responding with reference to Diaz’s new boyfriend Benji Madden. “Hang on a second, now I’m friends with Benji so I don’t know if he’s been talking out of school or not but I’ve told him to keep his mouth shut,” Sandilands said. Seconds later Diaz tells the hosts ”we’re having to go now, sorry." Jackie O immediately pounced on Sandilands, saying, “Well that started very well and ended poorly I think, good one Kyle”. “You ruined that interview, sorry to be blunt,” Jackie O said. “You brought up Drew Barrymore, her best friend’s drug addiction in the past. And then you brought up Benji and we all know how protective Cameron is about her private life. “So the two things that probably would get her off-side, you went there.” Never one to back down, Sandilands said, “Maybe they should have just bought ads if they want to sell the movie, I want to find out other things”. Mancow Suing Man For Defrauding Him Out Of $50,000 In Radio Group Deal
THE MOUTH, JULY 22ND, 2014 –– Longtime Chicago personality and syndicated radio host, Erich "Mancow" Muller, has filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court claiming a North Carolina man defrauded him out of $50,000 that was to be used to purchase radio stations. According to The Chicago Tribune, Those purchases apparently never took place. The suit alleges Rodney Rainey and his company, Maverick Radio Partners, improperly used the money for purposes other than the acquisitions and failed to return the $50,000 despite repeated requests from Muller. The suit claims Muller was approached by Rainey in December 2011 with a potential radio investment opportunity. Muller alleges Maverick said it had secured a commitment of $200 million from Spartacus Partners Corp. to build the group, which was targeting stations in Hartford, Conn., Orlando, Fla., Charlotte, N.C., Nashville, Tenn., and other markets. Muller entered into an oral agreement with Rainey to give him $50,000 in investment capital, with the understanding it would be held in escrow. The lawsuit alleges Rainey and Maverick Media used the $50,000 for their own use, and committed fraud and breach of contract. Muller is seeking $50,000 plus interest, attorneys' fees and punitive damages to be determined at trial. PHOTO/God, Guns And Automobiles

Co-Host Falen Says 'He Was Born To Play Creepy Predator'
THE MOUTH, JULY 22ND, 2014 –– Longtime KDWB morning show host Dave Ryan is a murderous, dastardly villain. This isn't some secret scoop from his co-workers, it's all for fun. Dave landed the role of "Jud Fry", the dirty guy who lives in a smokehouse in a production of "Oklahoma!" that's currently running in Minneapolis. "I tried out as a joke, thinking we'd all have a laugh and it'd be a great bit, but the director actually offered me the part, even though the only acting experience is pretending that I like Iggy Azelea." After 6+ weeks of rehearsal, memorizing lines and working on singing, "Oklahoma!" opened on July 18 and runs through this weekend. Dave's co-hosts, Steve-O and Falen Bonsett were suitably impressed with Dave's portrayal saying, "He really knocked it out of the park. He was born to play a creepy predator." Dave adds, "It wasn't really something I ever wanted to do, but it was an opportunity I'd never get again and it's been incredible. All of us need to get out of our comfort zone and do something different. It's great for the mind and the soul. And listeners love hearing about the whole thing."

REPORT: Casey Kasem's Body Is In Montreal
Funeral Director Said "When He Landed In Montreal, I Ceased Being Funeral Director In Charge."
THE MOUTH, JULY 21ST, 2014 –– Contrary to numerous reports that Casey Kasem's remains were unknown, the head of a Washington state funeral home that had initial responsibility for radio personality Casey Kasem says he personally made sure his remains were put on a flight to Montreal last Monday. According to ctvnews.com, Corey Gaffney, the president of Gaffney Funeral Home of Tacoma, says he confirmed the remains arrived in Montreal and media reports suggesting they have disappeared are not true. The Montreal funeral home told The Canadian Press on Saturday it had no record of Kasem's remains as being at the facility or that they were supposed to arrive. There was no immediate explanation for why Kasem's remains would have gone to Montreal. Gaffney said he couldn't comment on why Kasem's wife, Jean (R) picked Montreal or why Urgel Bourgie had no record of receiving Kasem's remains. "What we did was made sure that Casey got to the airport, we released custody of Casey to the airline," Gaffney said in an interview on Saturday night. "The airline signed for that and acknowledged that and than at that point we returned to our office, tracked his flight to Montreal, confirmed that he had arrived, reported that to Mrs Kasem." Surprisingly, the funeral home President said, "When he landed in Montreal, I ceased being the funeral director in charge." A judge granted Kerri Kasem a temporary restraining order preventing her father's wife from cremating his remains, but her lawyer told The Associated Press that when he approached the Tacoma funeral home with a copy of the restraining order, he was told it no longer had the remains."They said they could not disclose where he had gone or where he would end up," said the lawyer, Scott Winship. Judge Ronald Culpepper ordered Jean Kasem to ensure that the radio host's remains were preserved and that his body stayed at the Tacoma funeral home until the court decided on the autopsy petition following a July 25 hearing.
KERRI KASEM: Not Surprised From Being Blocked By Jean
"Jean Kasem, actually did this to her eight siblings when her mother got sick. She blocked all her siblings from her mother ... didn’t notify them when she died or where she was buried."
THE MOUTH, JULY 21ST, 2014 –– Kerri Kasem filled-in for a couple Tim Conway, Jr.'s show and revealed more about her father, Casey Kasem's during during the past year. According laradio.com, “Jean Kasem moved him five different times to five different nursing homes,” said Kerri, which prompted her to hire a lawyer. “By this time, my dad had a bed sore on his back bigger than my hand. He had a lung infection, a bladder infection and was not doing well when I finally got to see him.” She added, "I tried everything to get visitation to see my father before we had to pull out what my dad signed in 2007, which was a health directive,” explained Kerri. “We asked him in 2007 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s to do something so we can see you. We actually thought this might happen. It wasn’t a shocker when we were blocked because my stepmother, Jean Kasem, actually did this to her eight siblings when her mother got sick. She blocked all her siblings from her mother, did not tell the siblings what she had, that she was dying, and didn’t notify them when she died or where she was buried. So, we had a heads up on this that this may happen to our family.”

THE MOUTH, JULY 21ST, 2014 –– Most format changes simply fade into history, but for one filmmaker letting go the memory of WFNX 101.7/Boston on the second anniversary of its demise wasn't that easy. filmmaker Jason Steeves had suddenly made public his detailed documentary on the rise and fall of the 29-year-old alternative rock radio station with the doc, We Want The Airwaves: According to vanyaland.com, The WFNX Story raised more than $9,000 via Kickstarter in 2012, and had screened at the Somerville Theatre’s Filmshift Film Festival this past October. DVDs were sent to donors in March, but it was unclear how people who didn’t contribute to the crowd-funding could view or own it. Then, around 10 p.m. EST this evening, director Steeves decided to quietly post the entire 85-minute documentary on Vimeo. Back in 2012, news broke on May 16 that WFNX was shuttering, the station continued to broadcast music as a relative ghostship on 101.7 until July 20. A few months later, WFNX was re-launched as wfnx.com, a short lived online-only station. For the record, Steeves was a host of Sunday night local music program on WFNX, Boston Accents, and served as music director of wfnx.com. WATCH HERE

[WATCH] MSNBC Pranked During Airlines Crash Coverage
THE MOUTH, JULY 18TH, 2014 –– An apparent fan of Howard Stern called into MSNBC’s “The Cycle,” posing as Staff Sgt. Michael Boyd, U.S. Embassy in the Ukraine. Saying he was an eyewitness from the U.S. military, he spoke live with Krystal Ball (shown)l. According to salon.com, He told her “Well, I was looking out the window and I saw a projectile flying through the sky. And it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern’s a**.” Astonishingly, she glossed over the comment and continued the interview. "It would appear that the plane was shot down,” she asked. Then Ball wanted a take from his military training, asking what might have contributed to the crash. Perhaps equally astonished she was still asking questions, he remarked: “You’re a dumb a**, aren’t you?” Ball then wisely went to a break. While not directly attributable to Stern himself, his fans have long been relentless in pranking media events such as Anthony Weiner and others. But this one, a tragedy involving the deaths of 295 people, reached an all new low. Not funny in the least and hopefully a wakeup call to both radio and tv screeners. WATCH HERE

(S)exually Explicit Fundraiser Puts Campus Radio Station In Jeopardy
THE MOUTH, JULY 18TH, 2014 –– KCPR FM, Cal Poly’s student-run radio station, could be sold away from the campus following a fundraising promotion in which two student hosts offered to sell photos of their genitals in return for cash donations. According to calcoastnews.com, for $20 dollars, the students would make the photos available on Snapchat. Dean of the College of Liberal Arts Douglas Epperson said in an email shortly before the story broke that he saw no need to keep the station, which has been operated by students for more than 46 years. “I am beginning to believe that we should sell the radio license," Epperson wrote in an email sent May 19. “What were they thinking and how could it go so far with the faculty completely unaware!!!” Epperson laid the blame on “poor student selection and/or poor faculty oversight.” One of the students involved in the promotion said “We mentioned the activity in a sense that it was ‘check out our Facebook for this promotion,’ ” the student whose name was redacted by Cal Poly wrote. “We didn’t explicitly walk through it on air, and it was not called to any action to take part in the promotion.”

'Awkward! Fearne Cotton pretending she likes Lily Allen' - It all started when BBC Radio 1’s Fearne Cotton said she was snubbed by the singer Lily Allen at the BRIT Awards back in February. Lily apparently blanked her "five times in a row". Lily appeared on Fearne's Radio 1 show this week for a chat and sing song in the Live Lounge, and some listeners were quick to hit Twitter to say how awkward they found it. "Fearne Cotton and Lily Allen pretending they like each other on radio 1 right now. Brilliant listening," one wrote. Another person said: "Found Fearne Cotton and Lily Allen chatting on radio 1 slightly awkward. Fearne clearly wasn't loving it." "I really thought we weren't going to make it out," she said. "It was so frightening ... I am seeing really a ghost town with rocks all over the streets, graffiti, trash cans and dumpsters on fire, smoke everywhere," she recalled. "(I was) thinking, 'Oh, no. This is really bad.'" Then that night during a show at the Tower of David air raid siren starts to go and ushers began screaming for them to 'get out, get out, get out. Get into the bomb shelter,' she said. From that point, their goal was to get out alive. She said, "While we were at the Tel Aviv airport begging for this flight, trying to work it out, there were probably three runs to the bomb shelter while we were waiting to get on the plane," Ellen K recalled. "The military is there running it. Until we were 10,000 feet in the air, we did not feel safe." Day-Care Operator Indicted For Stealing Food-Aid Money And Filing Bogus Lawsuit Against Philly Radio Station And Host
THE MOUTH, JULY 16TH, 2014 –– The founder of a chain of day-care centers in Philadelphia was indicted Monday in federal court on charges of stealing money intended to feed low-income children with filing a bogus lawsuit against Philadelphia radio personality Tarsha "Jonesy" Jones (L) that allowed her to receive a "substantial" settlement from Power 99 and led to the host firing. According to philly.com, Tracey Parson, founder of Kiddie Kare Child Care & Education Center Inc. allegedly conspired with others to defraud the government for more than 2 1/2 years, from around December 2009 until June 2012. Reportedly, Kiddie Kare received $523,148 in reimbursements from a federal food program administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. In 2011, Parson filed a suit against Clear Channel Communications Inc. and Jones, alleging that Jones defamed her during a radio broadcast about a purported altercation between groups of girls involving Parson's daughter. Prosecutors claim Parson fabricated evidence that her business suffered, that her property was vandalized, and that she received threats of violence. In July 2012, Clear Channel paid a "substantial sum" to Parson to settle the lawsuit, but now prosecutors want Parson to forfeit nearly $1.3 million, which presumably includes the amount she allegedly defrauded from the government and from the Clear Channel settlement.

It took place at Comiskey Park in Chicago between games of the twi-night doubleheader with the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. Taylor Swift Speaks Out In The Wall Street Journal: "The Music Industry Is Just Coming Alive"
THE MOUTH, JULY 9TH, 2014 –– Country mega-star Taylor Swift takes her thoughts directly to the business community with an expansive piece in The Wall Street Journal . She writes that she's 'one of the few living souls in the music industry who still believes that the music industry is not dying…it's just coming alive.' She adds: 'There are many people who predict the downfall of music sales and the irrelevancy of the album as an economic entity. I am not one of them. ... Piracy, file sharing and streaming have shrunk the numbers of paid album sales drastically, and every artist has handled this blow differently." In dealing with the state of music, Swift believes it's still about bonding relationships with fans and keeping them surprised. "I think forming a bond with fans in the future will come in the form of constantly providing them with the element of surprise. No, I did not say "shock"; I said "surprise." I believe couples can stay in love for decades if they just continue to surprise each other, so why can't this love affair exist between an artist and their fans?" And, of course, Swift is well aware of social media's place in the modern world. She mentions an actress friend of hers who landed a recent movie role over another actress based on her Twitter followers. She recalls back in 2005 during a music meeting explaining how connected directly with her fans on this new site called Myspace. "In the future, artists will get record deals because they have fans—not the other way around."

Opie Has Long Talk With SiriusXM; He And Norton Headed Back
THE MOUTH, JULY 8TH, 2014 –– Leave it to Twitter, the place that literally got longtime Opie And Anthony co-host Anthony Cumia booted following last weeks elongated racist rant, for Opie to set the record straight about his future. He posted yesterday: "Had a long talk with @SiriusXM me and @JimNorton will be back on the radio next monday to start to figure this out." Prior to his meeting, Hughes admitted that he was 'devastated' by the news, but added that he was meeting on Tuesday with SiriiusXM. This followed Cumia's own revelation (JD 7.7.14) via a source in The New York Daily News that he was planning a podcast-styled broadcast from his Long Island residence. The source said Cumia would likely recruit many of the show's regular guests such as Jim Norton (right), Bill Burr, Jim Florentine, Nick DiPaolo and others. While Opie's reply may have put the kibosh on any thoughts of his leaving and joining Cumia, only time will tell which direction the show likely go. Either way, next week could prove quite interesting. Cumia says he will discuss the incident with “TOTAL FREEDOM” this week on his Compound podcast. We'll keep an ear out on this one. 1

On Monday, twitchy.com reported that nationally syndicated talker Dana Loesch, host and author of the upcoming book, "Hands off my gun," was the target of death threats on Twitter from someone identified only as "Gaganna." The tweets were quickly deleted, but not before being captured by Twitchy. "You need to die too with your ugly a**," tweeted "Gaganna." They followed with a message suggesting they know where Loesch lives and would visit violence upon her. "I just found out you live where I live," the tweet read. "[D]on't worry, b***h, ima (sic) find yo (sic) weak a**." Loesch's husband, Chris, posted pictures of the both tweets. After Twitter dropped the account, Loesch thanked them and expressed hope the FBI would track the person down. This isn't the first time Loesch has been targeted with hate on Twitter. "Back in 2009 following another threat, law enforcement and other security told her to get a firearm. The second thing they told her was to get a conceal carry license.

By the end of this year, mobile will represent nearly 10% of all media ad spending, surpassing newspapers, magazines and radio for the first time to become the third-largest individual advertising venue, only trailing TV and desktops/laptops. According to eMarketer’s estimates, US adults will spend an average of 2 hours 51 minutes per day with mobile devices this year. In 2013, daily time spent on mobile devices and on desktops and laptops was equal, totaling 2 hours 19 minutes, but this year, time with desktops and laptops will drop slightly to 2 hours 12 minutes, while mobile time will increase significantly. TV remains by far the largest beneficiary of adults’ media time, at 4 hours 28 minutes in 2014, hence its persistent lead as the top category for advertising spending. READ FULL REPORT HERE

French plot new fight against English invasion - Leaders of France’s radio industry met this week to come up with a strategy to boost French resistance against the invasion of English terms. France's broadcast media is considered the front line in the battle to stem the invasion of Anglicisms. The conference in Paris brought together media chiefs, French language experts and government ministers to devise a plan on how to fight back against this “threat” to the language of Molière. Some rules are already in place, French TV and radio regulator CSA, bars the use of foreign terms when a French one exists.
He was supposed to be filling in for Chris Smith’s Afternoon program while he went on holidays for three weeks. But, according to Smith’s website, 2GB Program Director David Kidd called to tell him the deal was off, "We won't be needing you. You can't call a Deity a paedophile (British for pedophile)," he said. Ignoring the technicality that Muhammad was a prophet and not a God, Kidd was referring to what Smith had said in a discussion during his regular Thursday guest spot with Drive presenter, Ben Fordham. Smith told Fordham’s listeners, “The prophet Muhammad was a paedophile, a pederast, a (s)exual offender, a man who promoted the idea that it was OK to marry a six-year-old and consummate the marriage when the little girl was nine. And that’s written into their books, it’s part of the philosophy ... the Koran. It’s factually correct.”

Man Charged With Making Threats Against KLBJ Hosts
Facebook Page Showed Photo Of An Assault Rifle With Comment: “Do You Know What Happened To Alan Berg?”
THE MOUTH, JULY 2ND, 2014 –– Austin, TX police have charged a man with a felony after being tipped by staff members of KLBJ-FM of Facebook messages which they claim threatened staff members including morning show host Dale Dudley (TL) from The Dudley and Bob morning show. According to statesman.com, police charged Scott Jeremy Schuster, 38, with making a terroristic threat, a third-degree felony. KLBJ first came into contact with Schuster on June 10 after he made derogatory comments about a woman who had recently won the station’s “Rock Girl” contest, the affidavit said. Following an exchange with night host (CJ) Casey Morgan, The Dudley and Bob show located a work telephone number for the man and contacted him. Schuster agreed to come in live on the air to talk about his comments on the website, the affidavit said. According to the report, "It turned ugly at one point with a heated on-air exchange between the hosts and Schuster." Dudley later became alarmed after seeing that Schuster’s Facebook page contained a picture of an assault rifle and the comment “Do you know what happened to Alan Berg?” A reference to a Denver radio personality murdered after he spoke out against white supremacists in 1984, the affidavit said. Dudley then contacted law enforcement, the affidavit said. On June 24, Morgan found Schuster had sent several messages to the KLBJ Facebook account. One read, “i (expletive) hate you guys so much. it’s gonna be a bloodbath. maybe even more. i smell gunpowder. i smell assassination. thank dale. i don’t even capitalize his name.” Since then, KLBJ has requested additional security for its employees, the affidavit said.
