Justin Bieber Hangs Up On Mojo Following Awkward Exchange [AUDIO]

THE MOUTH, JULY 2ND, 2012 –– Note to anyone about to interview Justin Bieber: Don't compare him to Justin Timberlake or worry about his mom being around renown cougar-chaser, Harry Styles. On second thought, since this story found it's way to nearly every major gossip site in the world.... Okay, here's the story, Channel 955/Detroit's Mojo in The Morning (R) had the Bieb' (L) on his show last Friday. First bit of interview weirdness happened with Mojo, commenting on the Bieb's maturing voice, said the first time he heard his new album, he thought it was Justin Timberlake. This was perhaps the moment a hissy fit began to launch. Later, Mojo talked about Bieber's growing friendship with One Direction's Styles. He asked Justin if he trusts the older women-loving band member around his mother. Apparently stunned by the question, Bieber, searching for a cool reply, says: “I think you should worry about me around your mom, bro." Uhhhh, not so cool, as Mojo says, “Justin, my mom’s dead, so unfortunately, it wouldn’t work.” DEAD SILENCE ------- Later on Friday Mojo In The Morning ‏@MojoInTheMorn tweeted: "Suspended over @justinbieber" But since this is a holiday week... Oh Well. Listen to PART 1 AWKWARDNESS --- PART II AWKWARDNESS

ANGELA PERELLI: "Two-Thirds of The Most Successful Shows Talk More Than 30 Minutes Per Hour."

THE MOUTH, JULY 2ND, 2012 –– PPM: Five Years Later, What The Meter Now Makes Perfectly Clear. This was the title of one of our most popular sessions at this year's MSBC 24/Miami. Panelist, Angela Perelli (shown) of the Randy Lane Group blogged: "Arbitron Director of Programming Services Jon Miller studied the 25 most successful morning shows in the U.S. and revealed the findings on a panel with CBS SVP of Programming Greg Strassell, herself and syndicated morning show personality Bobby Bones. Here were a few of her takeaways: • The best shows are not successful because their fans listen LONGER (in duration). They have fans that COME BACK MORE OFTEN (more occasions). • From an execution standpoint, be disciplined about teasing and teasing what's next (within 15 minutes) rather than what's coming up later (unless it's killer). • Even your biggest fans only listen to you (on average) two days a week. You may think your listener has a regular morning schedule and listens to you at the same time every day, Monday through Friday. Your thought is a fantasy. What to do about it? Repeat your best material. You're not slacking. You're exposing your strongest content to the 90% of your cume that missed it the first time. This is especially important for the most topical, timely content. • There is no magic music-to-talk blueprint for succeeding in PPM. However, two-thirds of the most successful shows talk more than 30 minutes per hour. • The biggest hour for morning drive is still 7 am. Call me Captain Obvious, but put your best material at the time when you have the most listeners. Arbitron can tell you when the most meters are on in your market (typically around 7:40). STUDY: Majority of Listeners Turn On The Radio To Hear Their Favorite Personality

THE MOUTH, JUNE 29TH, 2012 –– In case there's any doubt about the power of personalities, check out this study conducted by the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism that examined the relationship between radio listeners and on-air personalities. The study confirms, overwhelmingly, that listeners feel they have a genuine relationship with their favorite radio personalities. According to The Katz Radio Group, which funded the study, showed that 75 percent of study respondents reported that they turn on the radio because they know their favorite personality is on the air. 72 percent of respondents talk to their friends about their favorite personality or what they heard on the program. Of note, listener engagement extended into the online realm, with nearly 70 percent of study participants reporting that they follow their favorite radio personalities and/or radio stations via social media channels. USC professor Paula Patnoe Woodley and Lauren Movius, PhD who co-authored the study, said "It is clear that parasocial interaction, or listeners' feelings that they have real relationships with radio on-air personalities, definitely exists."

FINALLY: Howard Stern Gets The Nod From Radio's Hall of Fame

THE MOUTH, JUNE 29TH, 2012 –– In what Chicago media blogger, Robert Feder, calls one radio's Hall of Fame's most embarrassing omissions, has now been corrected as this Fall, Howard Stern will be among seven chosen for induction by the Radio Hall of Fame steering committee. “There wasn’t any great controversy involving Howard’s induction because I think everyone has believed for a long time that he deserved to be inducted,” said chairman Bruce DuMont. Of course, being inducted doesn't mean Stern will actually show up for the honor, but considering how often he's dissed the Hall over his multiple rejections in the past, this opportunity may be too good to pass up. Other inductees for 2012 are personalities Gary Burbank, Ron Chapman, Art Laboe, Luther Massingill, Jack Cooper (posthumously), and NPR’s Fresh Air, hosted by Terry Gross.

THE MOUTH, JUNE 29TH, 2012 –– As the expression may go: you can take a jock out of radio, but apparently not the radio out the jock. "I've never hidden my interest in returning ... radio is my first love," said Williams. She made it clear, however, she has no interest in coming back and playing music. "I'm an personality," said Wendy. "Not just a DJ." She then went on to add that her preference would be talk radio. Specifically WOR in New York. Citing various personalities on the station, she suggested she'd like to join the station and do her own thing. She also made it clear, she's not interested in a 4 hour shift. WOR are ou listening? The Tommy Show Honors Mother's Request For Dying Infant, Throws Banana Split Party

THE MOUTH, JUNE 29TH, 2012 –– Last week, twenty-one month Ryan Robert's family learned he would not survive a heart defect. Thursday night, 245 miles away, Washingtonian families had a banana split to celebrate his life. Last night, families from all over the DMV got their Ice Cream Party on at Carmine's in Penn Quarter. The reason for the free dessert bonanza? A twenty-one month year old named Ryan hundreds of miles away. Ryan's story hit the national platform after his parents Diane and Erik received the worst news of their life. Since he was just four days old Ryan has been in and out of the hospital with heart complications and operations. There is nothing more the doctors can do for him. Taking the terrible news to Facebook Diane informed her 'friends' that the family didn't want teddybears or flowers she simply wanted them to 'have a banana split for dinner with their kids and create a memory.' The request went viral. Within days over 70,000 families took the advice and began posting photos of their own Banana Split Party for Ryan on the social network. NBC's the Today Show made a mention and the word spread further. DC's morning show, The Tommy Show on 94.7 FRESH FM heard the story and aside from encouraging their listeners to do the same planned a giant Ice Cream Social for Ryan. Friends of the Tommy Show came from all over the area to take part and Carmine's served up their signature banana split Titanics to anyone who stopped by.

THE MOUTH, JUNE 29TH, 2012 –– Unless you've been locked away in a closet over the past couple of weeks, you're likely familiar with 68-year-old New York bus monitor, Karen Klein, who was bullied by middle-schoolers and caught on video. Once it went viral, the rest, as they say, is history. Through a fund set up by a Canadian, so far over $600,000 has been raised. Yesterday, with the help of Mix 104.1 Boston's Karson & Kennedy, she arrived in Boston to take the iconic duck tour. Karson Tager told WHDH TV: “She was so sweet. I mean, how can you not look at this woman -- and you know, she's like everybody's grandmother and when you hear the horrible things that those kids said. You know, Boston has really taken a stand against bullying. We've had some issues over the years and early tragedies because of bullying. Boston city schools got involved, they made her an honorary bus monitor today ... It seemed like it was the right thing to do,” said Tager. When asked if she had forgiven the boys, Klein said, “Maybe not this week. Maybe next week.” “I’d like to meet them face to face and ask them why they did it.” Shown above Karson, Karen, Kennedy & and Producer Mike Morgan. WATCH VIDEO
