WDAE's Beckles Charged With Disorderly Conduct After Touching Police Horse (Not What You Think)

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 2012 –– Former Tampa Bay Buc's guard/turner sport's talker Ian Beckles found himself in a bit of jam over the weekend after leaving a concert. Police noticed Beckles walking into traffic and instructed him to return to the sidewalk. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Beckles was “highly intoxicated” and “slurring his speech; had difficulty speaking in complete sentences and had the strong smell of alcohol on his breath.” Then, despite the command from a police officer to not touch his horse, he ignored the warning and was arrested and charged with disorderly intoxication. He quickly got bail for $100. For the record, no animals were actually harmed. Beckles co-host on WDAE/620 "The Sports Animal” along with Ron Diaz, formerly of The Ron & Ron Show. Reportedly, it doesn't appear the Clear Channel-owned WDAE will take any action against Beckles in light of his arrest. You gotta believe being part of a story that involves touching horse is punishment enough.

Steve Harvey A Close Second To Couric In Daytime TV Talk War

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 2012 –– But wait, we're not through with radio guys on TV news. There's more. Jockline Daily has been keeping a close eye on the ever-growing midday talk war taking place on TV. With last week's debuted of Katie Couric, Jeff Probst, and Ricki Lake, they followed TV/Author/Comedian/Radio host's Steve Harvey’s earlier launch. According to cinemablend, Katie new show pulled in an impressive 2.7 rating, However, by week’s end The Hollywood Reporter showed Couric’s ratings dropping 37%; thus, barely pulling ahead of The Steve Harvey Show. And considering Harvey may have already gotten past his opening week bump, it's believed he has a slight competitive edge. In the mix is also The Ricki Lake Show and The Jeff Probst Show. Wouldn't it be nice to see a radio guy end up on top here.

The Bert Show's Jeff Dauler Turns Triathlete For Dr. Gupta

2

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 2012 –– Longtime "Bert Show" member, Jeff Dauler (shown), surprised listeners last December by saying that he would be joining Sanjay Gupta, the CNN chief medical correspondent, on his show "Fit Nation Challenge." As part of the event held this past weekend on Long Beach, CA. triathlon, it included a half-mile swim, an 18-mile bike ride and a four-mile run. It’s not of Olympic standards, but you have to know Dauler to understand their surprise. Jeff is/was a big guy, so the thought of him swimming a half mile was a bit of a stretch. Or, as AJC's Rodney Ho writes: "You wouldn’t catch him topless on a calendar like his colleague Bert Weiss did in 2008." But Ho explains Jeff's motivation on his publicized divorce from his long-time wife Jessica last year as really shaking him up. “I wasn’t feeling very social,” he said. And he didn’t feel healthy mentally or physically either. So when CNN offered him a spot on their Fit Nation challenge team nine months ago, he actually said yes before he had a chance to say no." Joining him there in California are his parents as well as The Bert Show's Jennifer Hobby and husband Grant Rivera. Wish Jeff well HERE.

95.7 JAMZ's Roy Wood Jr. Says He May Be Out; Station Officials Not So Sure

"Radio is the only job where you're the last person to know that you're out of a job" Wood

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2012 –– Here's a new twist on finding out if you've been canned or not, make it a show topic. On yesterday's Roy Wood Jr. morning show on 95.7 JAMZ, Woods told his listeners his show may be over. This came on the heels of an email co-host Brian Hedrick, known as B.Money, accidentally came across early yesterday morning 6:30 a.m. saying the station had decided to take the Roy Wood Jr. Morning Show in another direction. Woods shared the email with his listeners and started taking calls. The show then came to an abrupt end. According to alabama.com, Woods said "I thought we were pretty set with what my role would be. But I guess not." Woods who is in Los Angeles filming the TBS show "Sullivan & Son," said that the possible end of the show could have something to do with his travel schedule. "Radio is the only job where you're the last person to know that you're out of a job," Woods joked. Meanwhile, according to Kori White, Op's Mgr. for Cox Media Group in Birmingham, said that no official decision has been made about the future of the morning show. He added the incident could have been a misunderstanding and hopes to talk to the program director at 95.7 as well as the hosts to see where everyone stands on the situation. As so often is the case, a FB user quickly started a Save The Jamz Morning Show fan page in support of the show. This news comes just a couple of months after Cox Media put all seven of its Birmingham radio stations up for sale.

Sileo Goes On Rant To Fire Up 'Canes: "Sons of A B****es, HIT Somebody"

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2012 –– As we head into the weekend for the next round college football, we thought the Miami Hurricanes could use one more pep talk. So, as a courtesy to both them and to our readers, we'd like to share WQAM/Miami's Dan Dileo near on-air meltdown following last Saturday's 52-13 shellacking by, who would have thunk, Manhattan at Kansas State. Sileo a former Hurricane (cane) superstar went into about a three minute rant that exuded both expletives, screaming, and pleading of 'Cane players with lines such as "....Sons of a b***hes, HIT 'EM!!" This, among several others. Our readers tell us often they love our audio links. We think this one may make your all time favorites. And for the sake of Sileo's blood pressure, let's hope the Canes fare better against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats tomorrow. LISTEN TO AUDIO HERE
